I think the perception one has on the usefulness/likeability of a particular companion has a lot to do with your PC's origin and class, with appearance, dialogue, and voice acting being second. If you played a warrior class, then I can understand how Oghren would be seen as: oh crap, not another warrior ... and not given much chance or thought.



I played a female noble rogue ranger/assassin archer, and felt the same way towards Zevran, once he appeared - oh crap, another rogue.... Plus, that fake Italian accent put me off - I live in Italy and the closest that actor has been to Italy is a plate of pasta... I never had Zevran in my party, except to trigger the final Crows encounter. I chatted him up to get the assassin specialisation unlocked and kept him friendly enough to stick around, but that was it.



Leliana was actually useful early on when her lockpicking skill was better than mine, while I built up my archery lines. Also, a party with 2 well built archers do serious ranged damage - who needs a hand-flapper around with 2 shattershots for CC... Plus, that lovely French girl accent ....



Oghren never left my party once I got him (2nd to last treaty I did..). So chuffed to see him back!

Yes I know it very well.. And therefore my personal opionion was that cut off all of them was the rightest choiche..

And I will buy FOR SURE Awakening and all other games coming from Bioware, because I always loved and I will always love them...

But as long I am free to decide I am also able to disagree some decision they made.. And the choice to kick off in Awakening Oghren is just my personal way to disagree..

Not that I wish to protect Zevran, but I think Antiva is the equivalent of Spain. In fact, people try comparing him with Banderas, no?

Still, regarding being Oghren or not. As I said, you think Oghren fans will be able to take BioWare seriously after this mega prank they could be doing? Don't know for the others, but I cannot. I simply cannot think of me buying some products of someone that tricked me and my happiness in a way. Perhaps this is stupid, but it's not for me.

But this happens because everybody assumes that red-dwarf in trailer IS Oghrain..
Well.. I had an interview by Fernando Melo on IGN where he said that they was keeping under secret who is the retourning companion.. Well... after few days they went out with 1st trailer (not 15th trailer but the FIRST trailer) and then they shows me Oghren in 1st scene...
So.. where was then the famous secret???? At that moment I feeled very angry and disappointed...
Then until  some from Bioware come to say us "Yes the red-dwarf in trailer is Oghrain" I am going to believe to Melo's word, and to believe they are STILL keeping under secret who is the retourning companion...

Sigh... it's not assumption anymore, not that there ever really was. Oghren HAS been in every single trailer. Saying otherwise is really really tricking yourself, so much so I dunno how you do it.

Well, even I am acting like a baby. It's just that seeing Oghren, or let's suppose, someone extremely identical to him makes me happy. Not seeing him in game? Umm, nope, that's not nice.
Edit : also note that it's a 50-50 split for who wants Oghren and who wouldn't like him. But just a note : Oghren is one, and gets 50 percent. The others are 9 and get the other half. Or so, this is what I see on the threads. Could be that loads of fans are just hiding in hope he doesn't come back.

actually technically there is a way to fight him to the death... it's just next to impossible to get his approval that low without cheating.

Whats so special about him? You can ask that about any companion and everyone will have their own answer. I think he's special because he's the only one besides leliana who follows you withot being forced into it or because they ow you their life. I think he's special because he was the only bioware character besides HK-47 or minsc to make me laugh so much.

You may think he's no special at all and be just as right as me. Opinion.

There is... it's just hard to get there.
Still, if you noticed, Oghren is the party member with less banters and facts going on. You know practically nothing of him, even at the end. That's a good enough reason to make him more developed, no?

Don't know about the Bandaras comparison thing, but if that was suppose to be a Spanish accent, then it is even worse!!

The impression I got was Bioware was trying to make Antiva a Mediterranean-type area. Fair enough, however, there are no shortages of Spanish or Italian actors in America who could pull this off ... Also the Med area includes many other language/cultural types to choose from. Why rehash the stereotypical pseudo-Italian rankish cutthroat?

If Zevran can't be there, she'll stay with him and keep on rebuilding the GW. Meet my newest Orlesian Warden. And just to say, she will recruit Oghren

If I feel I should have a PC carry over from Origins, I'll make a run through without romancing anyone, and then carry her over to Awakening. To say it again, she too will recruit Oghren.

Oghren, like Zevran, needs to be paid attention to before the PC can really get to know him. He's a good guy, and if treated right and fairly (again, like Zevran), he's very sweet and touching, as well as very loyal.

Well.. not a bad idea,..but I dear my PC and I am not able, at least for my 1st playtrhough to forsake it

Well.. not a bad idea too.. Just have 2 separate lifes.. the 1 st life which may be considered the life in DAO, and which ended with the final of DAO and a 2nd life which begins in DAO and continues in Awakening.. There's is only a problem.. When you will meet your beloved during your 2nd playthorugh, will you be able to NOT romance him/her? I'm not really sure... i.e. I would not be able, I'm sure !

Antiva is mostly inspired by Venice, and I think Rivain is more inspired by Spain. Not sure about the latter though.

As to Oghren, he is probably the character that is least disliked if not most liked. Ali and Loghain split a lot of people into two sides, Morrigan is widely regarded as evil, Sten is boring and a mass murderer, Wynne gives unwanted advice, Zev is a sexmaniac and tried to kill you, the dog is a dog and Leli is a religious nutcase.

That is if we take Oghren is just a drunk guy as his trait.

Sure, BioWare must be smart to put same beard, hair, color and face on a different joinable NPC dwarf.

They might have used the model, that's how far it could go. Otherwise, it's either REALLY the twin, or it's him.

Oghren has 10% magic resistance for free for being a damn dwarf and most gear looks better on him than Sten or other characters.

I don't think so. If you look at the trailers, the PC is the standard one used by Bioware, human noble with black tattoo. You can see him already in the dragon age trailers.

So your theory is that the devs created the PC to look just like Oghren in the official trailers. Because that makes sense how? Are they doing their pissed to taunt fans of other companions and ****** off Oghren fans? I don't think the devs are d***s.

jeez, i feel the same for plot-relevant characters, but really, the rest? wouldn't be a problem if they wanted it that way. to say it's hard to put them in is the same like saying leaving them out is hard, only from a different point of view.
oh, well, it's easy to come up with reasons why they're gone, i know that too. i just fear that it'll feel cheap (which i was meaning to say).
and the only difference with oghren is what? that i can't either kill or *beep* him? hmkay.
