From the new awakening video featuring Anders ("the other")  I get the distinct impression we're heading for a DA version of the "dirty dozen" a bunch of very effective apostates and outcasts...  Sounds good to me.

Well aren't most Grey Wardens outcasts, they are recruited mainly for there ability and willingness to do what ever it takes to win......I assume most Grey Wardens have somewhat shady pasts before joining the order.

I think, to a certain extent, that tends to be what the Grey Wardens are composed of. Consider that four out of the six origins were, depending on choices, basically escaping execution when recruited, and the other two were essentially forced by circumstances. Now, we know there are other ways that the Grey Wardens undergo recruitment, but even then there seems to be a tendency to go for the misfits rather than the best of the best at times (see: Alistair).

Well I think Grey Wardens can come from a variety of backgrounds some more shady but some more 'noble' such as Alistair or Ser Jory (even though he died, he was recruited). I also think that while all Grey Wardens have agreed goal to fight the darkspawn, I actually think the attitude on how this is to be done varies allot between Warden to Warden. I don't actually think there is one clear monolithic attitude of Wardens do whatever it takes to win, but instead with some Wardens there will be a reluctance to use some methods of warfare or disapproval of the way other Wardens do things. Alistair is a clear example of a Warden who has problems with the use of some methods to achieve a goal if the method is to ruthless or uses blood magic etc (or recruiting certain people :-)), also Riordan expresses his dislike for the way Wardens do things in the Anderfels. There they have become default rulers and as he sees that they have become somewhat cold to the people around them and don't care enough, where as he thinks Wardens need to be closer to the people they protect and serve them (though he differs obviously from Alistair in thinking that only skill is important in determining whether someone is a viable candidate for Wardenhood).

So I think that while there is a sort of general Wardens fight the darkspawn whatever it takes ethos, I actually think that different Wardens might see this statement quick differently from other Wardens (after all, you don't become a new person when you do the Joining, you just start the sense the darkspawn)

I don't think we can draw any conclusions from one character. That would be like deciding what the Origins party would look like based on a Morrigan or Sten trailer. I expect the party will be balanced in much the same way as the it is in the initial game, with characters that either a 'good' or 'bad' leaning PC will be able to bond with.

Well said, and I agree. There are all kinds of wardens. Their basic beliefs don't change just because they've been recruited.
