I can confirm that that patch works IF you update your VC runtime library via the link above my post.

I'd like to note that log output posted by someone in another thread shows definitively that the patched DAO is looking for a newer version of the library than what DAO originally installed. Also, Win7 users may not have a problem at all as it comes with it's own, more recent, version of the CRT libraries.

YES! just did what tomaltach said and now it's working; I was worried that I would have to reinstall the game. Thanks a lot!

The main issue that people seem to be having is that the patch is built with a newer version of a Microsoft library than what DAO originally installs. You can find the latest version here, the x86 version.

This worked for me, thankyou so much. <3<3<3

I just downloaded the patch and my up to date antivirus software Avira (www.avira.com) detected the following virus/trojan:

TR/Crypt.ZPACK.Gen2

I downloaded the patch file from here: http://social.biowar...ame_patches.php

There are 3 files. Do I need all of them?

Where do you find the patch in the first place, for hard copy.

The patch seems to have lowered my fps a bit. Before patching I was getting 25-35 fps at all times on high settings (no AA and I turned off Frame Buffer Effects because they made the game to "hazy" imo). Now I get 15-25 fps. For what it's worth, here are my specs:

C2D p8600 2.4ghz

4gb ddr3 ram

Nvidia 9600m GT 512mb (ddr2) running the latest mobile drivers (186.81)

Windows 7 x64

Game patched and VC Runtime updated to the latest version.

I should also note that load times, fps and general performance seem to be slightly random. For example, while testing all of the settings in the dragonage.ini I got different results with the same settings off of the same save. In other words the exact same "scene" would give me 25fps or 35fps with nothing changing. I love the game, I just wish some of these technical issues can get ironed out before it gets a bad reputation which could affect sales and the possibility of sequels.

Where can I even get the patch? I feel like a total idiot asking but I can't find it anywhere. I have the boxed collectors edition.

Phew, thanks for the heads up. No one can play after the patch (disc version)?

Does this issue also affect XP users? I have the patch downloaded, but I haven't dared use it because of all the problems reported...

Downloading the new library solves it indeed.

A Visual Studio update from a month or two ago is probably what is causing this. It was pretty easy to be blindsided by it. It happened to us at my work with code we were compiling. Code built prior to the update uses the old redist package. Code built after the update needs this new redist package.

Phloppy, if you're using 64bit Vista try vcredist_x64.exe from the location tomaltach provided.
