The new VC runtime fixed it for me too.
The patch also seems to have wiped the bonuses from my "Memory Band" ring. None of the other bonus items seem to have been affected.
Patched and now game wont load..

Which patch/update of VC++ do Vista -64 bit users need to DL? x86.exe version?

The x32 version of the VC++ redistributable solved my Play issue (even though I'm running Vista x64).

That's not the patch. It's a known Bioware bug, as seen in multiple threads. It's just a visual bug, does not affect the 1% bonus.Quiz69 wrote...

Same here. Haven't tried without the patch, as I just got the game and installed it, then immediately installed the patch before running it.
But I've run the configuration, and when I click the "Play" button in the launcher, nothing happens at all.

I hade the same problem with the patch, on vista sp2 32-bit with all windows updates installed. After installing the MS VC++ 2005 libraries everything works as expected!

The VC++ 2005 redist fixed it for me as well. Had to install the x86 version as well to make it work, even though I run Windows XP x64. I guess the game runs in 32-bit mode.

Had the launch bug after patch but the VC update fixed it. But I now notice the same problem with the memory band, all stats are gone.

Avira Anti-virus mark this patch as a trojan. And besides some links posted by people, I can´t find this patch going through any normal bioware or DAO sites. I would be careful. And maybe change the anti-virus??? I´m waiting for something really official. That doesn´t seem like it.

I can't figure how a patch downloaded from http://social.biowar...ame_patches.php could possibly not be official. If you got it somewhere else..well...

Nope. From this link too. But have you seen any announcement?

I haven't...but people who have the Steam version had the patch. So why wouldn't there be an official patch for others?

My guess is that since it was such a small fix they didn't bother making a big announcement

A patch is always a big thing for a game. I hate that these games today don´t have an "update" button in it. But anyway, any patch should have an announcement before its release, IMHO.

Why? It's .01 we're talking about here, and all of those changes are incredibly minor. Chances are if you're already playing the game you don't even need that patch. Where and how are you suggesting it should have been "announced"? It was posted here in the tech support forums, isn't that an announcement?
Big patches are a big thing for a game. Little patches are, well, little. I do agree about the "update" button, though.

Bought the game, brought it home, installed it, patched it.....and it won't launch. OK these massive, sprawling games are notorious for having a bug or two, it's no big deal.... but it wont even LAUNCH? And no word about this and no response from the devs here in the support forum? That's pretty unusual! 9.5/10 or 5/5 reviews all over the place... but I can't launch it. Going to install the x86 redist and hope for the best. Thanks to you guys for pointing it out... seems like someone from Bioware or EA ought to be addressing it though. I'm just sayin'

I'm not going anywhere near this thing. So now I am afraid to patch my game (not that I feel this stuff was worth it anyway) And I am afraid to go near Orzammar because of the graphics issue with ATI drivers.
Hope they get all this ironed out shortly. But there is plenty for me to do in the mean time. but seriously bio-dudes this is more the kind of fumbles I expect from Ubisoft than you guys

The Microsoft C++ update did not help me either. Neither did attempting to launch from the .exe file. I got the "application configuration is incorrect" error.
