No, I changed my mind! Bwuahahahaha!
Okay, seriously, I'm trying to see how long I can keep a promise, even if it was a not-so-serious promise. The very fact I even mentioned it shows my will is dissolving.

Is that so? Well, mankind might not be ready, but it doesn't matter, because Thane's fans are not part of that.Collider wrote...
The revelation that I and Pacifien know would change the face of the Thane fandom forever. Perhaps mankind is not ready for such a revolution.
Oh, well, I'm just being silly.

Take heart in knowing that at least the developers completely had a plan for Thane in the suicide mission that was completely ruined when they realized they weren't taking something about some other squadmate into account.laradenton wrote...

That being said, I have a few roles which Thane could have played during the suicide mission myself. Examples: 1) Sniper Specialist (provide sniper cover fire for diversion team). 2) Assassin (sneak into some sort of control room, kill Collector guards, and manually activiate something -- like a gate -- for the rest of the team to continue the mission).
EDIT: Got your PM, Pacifien. It makes sense, but still.

Your top three defenders when you leave your squad behind to hold the line are Garrus, Grunt, and Zaeed. This was originally supposed to be Thane, Grunt, and Zaeed. The developers then remembered that Garrus is your squadmate who held off three merc bands by himself: of course he's a great defender!
The remnants of their original intention can be found in the article about the suicide mission in the June 2010 issue of Game Informer. In the article, they list the order in which squadmates die when holding the line:
Mordin < Tali < Kasumi < Jack < Miranda < Jacob < Garrus < Samara/Morinth < Legion < Thane < Zaeed < Grunt
I put this to the test. Garrus will die before Thane. Garrus is still a better defender than Thane. I asked a developer about the disparity in what was happening here, and he mentioned the change. However, I mentioned the theory that the reason Garrus died earlier on the list was because, unlike Grunt and Zaeed, Garrus would be more likely to give his life in the defense of others. The developer liked this idea and said he'd co-opt this theory as the actual reason. So in support of the false pretenses, I said I would not give up the truth. Even though I knew that would be impossible given time.
So no great revelation, I suppose. Not much a reason other than silly promises on why I was reluctant to mention it earlier.
Wish they had given Thane a different role then, but like I said earlier, the decision was made late in the development. I suspect they actually had the details of the suicide mission and each squadmates role hammered out before anything else. Mordin was supposed to be a biotic you could use for the Biotic Shield portion!

His glistening sheen in the Blurr renders is just disturbing. But my guess is they had to start those trailers early, and weren't able to fix everything due to time/budget constraints.

I'm not sure how much of it was thought out, as some of Thane's dialog hints that the codex was revised at some point after the VA was done.

His illness must have been drafted midway in development, at least, because his writer left some months before release, and finalizing dialog and VA is one of the earliest time crunches they have to deal with (IIRC.)

Hmm yes, like the fact Thane says drell left Rakhana a century ago and the codex says 800 years...
Hooray for reaching over 100 pages!!
