As far as I could tell from Thane's character --please note that I haven't done his romance myself-- his impending death seemed to be an important, if not crucial, point to his character. His story is one of a man preparing for the inevitable. And so he is trying to do something good, to be a better person that he was. I enjoyed this.
And the romance --again, haven't done it myself-- seems to be about Thane not just doing good deeds during his final days, but truly living them for himself and another. I don't know for sure, but Female Shepard understands the reality of Thane's dwindling time, correct? If so, then in that case then the overall message of the romance seems to be one of "it doesn't matter how much time one has, but how they spend it".
Or is it that the romance is about giving Thane a reason to live? Hmm.
But if the former is the more accurate portrayal, then to me, having Thane being miraculously cured in ME3 would pretty much destroy the base of the romance, in my mind.
I'm not ruling out my possible acceptance of a reason for Thane being alive in Mass Effect 3. I'm just saying that without some really good storytelling, I'll be pretty darn disappointed.
I suppose the bare minimum where I could tolerate the "oh, Thane was just cured after ME2" is if he's still in treatment during Mass Effect 3 --depending, of course, on how long the period between games is. Something like the hanar did manage to create a cure, but treating a case as far along as Thane is a long and hard process. Therefor, he is in no condition to accompany Shepard. This I could buy, with reservations nonetheless, but I could accept it.
In my opinion, having Thane just *boom* be cured and ready to go would be possibly the worst direction for his character to go at this point.
I just thought I'd drop in and offer my thoughts. I feel compelled to assure you that the previous statement was made with no malevolent intent. And that it was made with the best interests of his character's integrity at heart.
P.S Does anyone here facepalm at the "Be alive with me tonight" line? Most likely not, but I'd thought I'd ask just the same.

And talk of cure usually boggles my mind, so i tend not to think of it at all. Just interested, how devs are going to resolve this situation

Yes, i facepalmed at "Be alive with me tonight". I usually turn my sound off at this moment.
I suppose it would be quite so bad if it were just "Be alive with me". But still, really? For me, it took the emotion of that scene and flushed it.

It was just cheesy, like some Hollywood movie. The whole concept of how Shepard gets sex once per saving the galaxy is quite questionable. Thane's romance was one of the most mature, so i don't really understand why this particular scene was made a sex scene. It didn't feel like it.
Actually, the other dialogue option ("it's just nerves" or something") fit the scene much better. But what do i know about romance scenes

LOL! I just thought it was spot-on. I don't know how to explain it, but it seemed to fit with the situation perfectly well for me.IndigoWolfe wrote...

This post probably contains sarcasm.
Anyway, I've always advocated not having a cure because that then makes the idea of the illness pointless in the first place. It's simply the catalyst for Thane's soul-searching. But he already had a catalyst for soul-searching when he says his soul purposely made Irikah's killers suffer when he had always separated body and mind before. Kind of like a "Gods, what have I become" moment.
But I do advocate prolonging Thane's life because he has every reason to live now, for his son, for the mission, for Shepard (especially if you romance him). And people do defy the odds when an illness puts an expiration date on their life, but they keep going past it.

Prolonging his life and finding a cure might just be the same thing. Say, let's prolong his life to 80 years. Everyone's happy, 'cause technically it's not a cure

as for the curing...personally I do see Thane getting treatment that maybe betters his situation but doesn't necessarily cure him. And for me it would be perfectly fine if they had some sort of open end for this. I mean, that would leave room for more fan art on the one hand and not ruin the story in any way. Because, neither do I want to see Thane getting cured nor do I want to see him die.
For my Shep, the base of the entire romance thing wasn't Thane dying actually. Thane isn't interesting to me because he is dying. He is interesting to me because of the whole way his character is written, which of course is just a result of the fact that he is dying, but still.....
hard to explain.....

I'd just as soon leave it open-ended. Mention at least that he's getting treatment that is helping him live past his 8-12 month estimate from ME2.mashavasilec wrote...

But I've seen people told they'll be dead in two weeks who then lasted several months more. Some people lasting in several years more. Not necessarily forty years, though.
