Okay, so this is probably a stupid question, but it's been bothering me for a while. I've seen some people on this forum and on DeviantArt mention something about Thane dropping a dead merc's body through a vent on top of Shepard, or something, but I haven't seen that during his recruitment mission. Is it something from a promo? Is it a fanmade thing? Did I just stupidly miss it every time I played the game? (this is entirely possible, considering I'm still discovering things I missed in ME1)

It's in his recritment mission. Sometime before you go across the bridge. You shouldn't run through the rooms too fast as you will miss this event. You can hear the guards talking through the vent (it's funny)and after that it happens.

I think it's in the next room just after the really long ramp leading up. The room has a med-kit and a bunch of ammo just inside to your right. I missed the dropped merc on my first playthrough.
I thought there was a picture floating around Neck Snap of that moment, as we had a pretty fun conversation about it.

ooooh I may have to look out for that, since I have Thane's recruitment mission coming up on my current playthrough. Lol, I've never seen it either. Will video capture it, if I get to see it.

I had no idea that this happens. I always go through the rooms so fast. I will have to remeber to look for this on my next playthrough.

I really understand all the facepalms about Jacob romance (and non'romance). But i think one needs to be careful while venting these emotions, they quickly get out of hand. Such posts is exactly the reason i stopped lurking in Kaidan's thread - someone there always go on about how awful and idiotic ME2 romances were. That's really sad, i liked lurking in there while there was no hatred. I should stop, really

I love Kaidan. And Thane. And Garrus. I don't see why this should be wrong! That's why you can create many different Shepards, right? Right????? If not, then I totally misunderstood the point of this game! :innocent:

What also makes me cringe are the people who want some sort of epic confrontation if they changed LIs. The last thing I want is to see is high school drama that is so OOC for these characters that it would be a huge disservice to everyone involved.
Jacob doesn't bother me so much. I used to make fun of him all the time, but after a while, he just kind of blends into the woodwork - and I think that's his whole problem. There's nothing remarkable about him.

actually I think he is! he's got serious problems with Garrus and Thane if you dump him for either of them. His comments towards them are rude. None of the former comments on the "other" guy in such a manner. Also, he acts like a little girl on pms....gets all b*tchy and stuff, especially if you go for the "let's talk about it" options in dialogues. for someone who is laid back, he's got a bad temper. for someone with no baggage, he points it out WAY too much. For someone who is looking for something light, he talks too much about love. yeah, he's just full of contradictions. I really don't like him! And his rudeness makes me want to jump into his face butt first. And believe me, I've seen ALL the dialogues myself! Yes, I went there....I need brainsoap!

Outside of romance, I really do like Jacob a lot. I even find him more useful in combat than some others give him credit for. I just think his potential in character development was never met. I know Collider recently did the Jacob romance and found out some of the darker elements of Jacob's personality. They could have drawn that out into the nonromance conversations, but I think that'd really push Jacob into Ashley territory and I know how much grief she gets about her views on aliens. Heh, just occurred to me that Jacob really is more of a replacement to Ashley than he is Kaidan.
I have similar issues with Thane, actually. I mean, not about the romance, but about potential that was never met. Kasumi took a talent that should have been particularly well suited to Thane. Garrus stole his thunder on the suicide mission. He was designed to be a major player, but you get him in the second half of the game and all that made him badass in his cinematics was never actually used. If I may speculate, it's possible that some people may feel as you do because Thane does not have an as obvious personality or obviously personality quirks like Jack. They did kind of go for the "stoic" personality in Thane. His personality is a lot more muted than more over the top characters like Jack or Grunt. For me, though, that just means that I have to dig deeper.

I actually find all the characters to have this problem to some extent. Every one of them have blank spots on personality which we should fill ourselves. They're like a carcasses for player perception

Jacob just doesn't really bother me. Yes his comments are rude and he is a jerk about it if you dump him, but so was Ashley if you pick Liara over her in the first game. I find he is much better to talk to with a MShepard. If you talk to him with a MShepard he's really not that bad of a guy.

I do like to fill in the blanks on characters, which is actually something you're required to do with Shepard anyway. The only problem with filling in the blanks is then discussing with others where that takes you. If your story doesn't gel with theirs, then the lack of evidence one way or the other is going to kill discussion.
Thane's life that I tend to fill in...
1) I think the Hanar specifically chose him because he had biotics.
2) I think his parents had no idea what the Hanar's plans for him actually were.
3) I think he met Irikah when he was a young adult, 18-22 years of age. I think it also took him a few years to woo her to the point of marriage.
4) I think a great deal of his assassination contracts were questionable, but his body and soul separation allows for him to disassociate himself from their questionable nature.
5) I think he went far beyond revenge with Irikah's killers. Think of Liam Neeson in the movie Taken if you've seen it, only even more so if that is even possible. I think he also killed those not directly related to the killing, because as the Patriarch said, you kill the family, your target gets stupid.
6) I think one of his targets in his revenge for Irikah made him realize just how far he had fallen, leading to his ten year journey of penance.

too. Although I wonder if she knew he was still an assassin after they
got together.

I think the big problem with Thane is that he is a vanguard, and please do not say he is an infiltrator because that is just not true. And the problem with being a vanguard is the shotgun. Thane is not a shotgun type - too messy. That is why they'd given him the sniper rifle. And Kasumi's skill is a tech one and he has biotic skills. Maybe he will get it in me3 - Liara also has overload.
