Non-Romanceable Characters and Demographics - Not that this poll is going to give me the answer, but I'm curious how many Thane fans actually also like Samara.

 so

i watched 'Lost in translation' for 1000th time

and it occured to me

that the thing going on between Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson is much like Shepard-Thane thingie

though i'm obviously a drunk munk, but it's realy heart-warming

i'll just leave this BS here, don't shoot me

Oooh, I see what you mean.

Now, I'll always think of Thane when I watch that movie.

I guess that depends on what part of his personality is found most appealing by whom.  Mordin's got that brainy empathatic badass thing going for him, and Samara's got the well-mannered-and-well-spoken-badass thing going for her, Kasumi's got the assassin thing going for her, Legion's got that orgy-of-moral/spiritual-ambiguity-vantage (the phrase at least makes sense in my head) thing going for it.

Given the results so far, it is good to see that, after all these years, the Short Circuit movies were really on to something.  I liked creepy robot, but my vote went to Mordin.  Samara, to me, is too morally righteous to accurately reflect Thaniness.

Hey, I wonder if Youtube has the one conversation where Shepard has that "No. I can't replace wife." I always wanted to hear what he had to say to that. I'm getting close to that scene so maybe I can record it =D (I hope it records good. Mine don't but my bro's does...maybe I can use his)

My YouTube-fu has failed me.  Image IPB

I've seen a lot of people say they can't get into Thane's romance because a) he's not over his wife and B) he was even married in the first place.

As to the first, his response in that scene pretty much solidifies my feelings on the matter.  Irikah will always have a place in his heart, but that doesn't mean there's no room for Shepard or that's she's simply a replacement.  If he weren't truly at peace with her death, he wouldn't be afraid of dying, himself.  Considering his religious beliefs, I would think he'd be looking forward to rejoining her in the afterlife and would never have "reawakened".

In context, him speaking about his wife is certainly understandable.  I would've been turned off had he been rather 'meh' about the whole thing, or if he avoiding talking about her at all.

As for having been married, I can only speak for myself here, but being roughly the same age as Shepard, I can tell you that I would be extremely hesitant to get involved with a 38 year old who's never been in a serious relationship before.  While that doesn't neccesarily equate to marriage, it's better than nothing.  Image IPB

Much agreement with goofygoff. I am surprised how many people seem put off with a romance just because the person has indicated previous serious relationships before. The idealistic romantic appeal of one true love perhaps.

Not sure if you've done it already, but I'd suggest posting that in the Thane Fan Group. That's presumably where most of the Thane fans hang out.

Whatever the case, I believe that Bioware should not repeat the dead wife/estranged son thing again.

Can't. If there's one thing I dislike more than the layout of the BSN group system, it's private groups. I'm just damn picky like that.

I'm allergic to the concept of "one true love." I was the product of a second marriage, so I like that Thane was semi-happily married before.

I've completed the first chapter of my first attempt at writing Thane. Hopefully I won't get chased with pitchforks.

Let me just say that I am of an age where, if I guy I meet *hasn't* had a previous serious relationship, I find that a bit weird.  Thane is how old?  The fact that he was in love and happy before means he can do it again.  That is comforting, as is the fact that he clearly loves his son.

(I'm also the product of a happy second marriage, fwiw.)

I suppose, which I think is unfortunate but I mean... c'mon!  How many people who'd played ME1 and ME2 went into ME2 with an ME1 LI and then proceeded to hook up elsewhere?  So much for One True Love.

As for Thane, if you stomp on his poor lizardy heart by saying you can't replace his dead wife when he admits that he has come to care for you, he not-so-gently informs you that you wouldn't have replaced her, that a person can, infact, love more than once in a lifetime, and that you can kindly **** off now but he'll still carry you in his heart anyway.  You tell 'em, Thane.

Meanwhile, Garrus doesn't seem to care one way or the other.  Feelings never really even seem to enter into it (deeper than awkwardness, hesitation, and finally acceptance), despite what the two of them have been through.

And Jacob is... Jacob.  Poor Jacob.

I'm doing my second playthrough of ME2 (I did another one of ME1, killed off Kaiden so I could romance Thane. I like Kaiden and despite what happened in Horizon, getting revenge on him by cheating seemed very mean)

Really? I wasn't turned off by Thane once putting in a serious relationship. Actually that drove me to him and that fact that he is the only one that Shepard doesn't have to flirt to get him to be interested in her. He cared for her.

Thane is my preferred ME2 love interest (male or female) because it simply feels the most mature to me. Garrus is that bro who you have to bludgeon to even plant the idea of relationship in his mind, and really, I wouldn't risk a perfectly good friendship in the name of nookie. Jacob is... well, there's a reason that demographic poll has a whopping 0% female interest in the guy -- but I don't blame Jacob for that so much as I do the way Shepard talks with him. She totally starts the bad innuendos and flirtations and drives me up the wall. The Miranda and Jack romances feel like you have to battle them before they relent for relationship. And Tali... is just my little sister.

I think that's a big reason why DA's Alistair has such huge fanbase as an LI.  Incidentally, his romance, while sweet, does nothing for me.

Agreed. I didn't like that fact that my Shepard talked in a flirty voice with him so i don't talk to him. XD

Yes, Thane is my preferred ME2 love interest.

(Though, I wished if thane was the only squadmate alive, he would see her fall and show some emotion. But I guess Bioware didn't think about that. Still, it would be interesting to hear.)
