I think it is cool Thane gives Shepard a nickname.

And also, I think Siha is meant for her affectionately. I confess that I smiled big when Thane called my Shepard Siha. *sighs* The voice XD

Oh I just had to giggle at the way PC users change person people in cutscenes. I thought it would be so funny if someone replaced Shepard with Thane in Jacob's romance scene. I just want to see that look on his face. XDDD You guys know the one.

"Siha" is part of the reason I love Thane's romance. It kind of tells you how much he really loves you. Image IPBImage IPB

Heavy risk but the prize! But with Thane? Bwahaha... That would either be so hilarious I would choke or be very disturbing.

Which is partly why the line "we don't know each other well enough to call it love" makes me *facepalm*.

I think there are several indications that Thane does love Shepard.

I know there are probably plenty of lines like this sprinkled all throughout the game, but this is one of those times when I actually snap out loud "Who talks like that?"

It's like how Harrison Ford told George Lucas "You can write this sh*t, but you can't speak it." Do the writers' fail dialogue 101 where you need to recite it out loud to make sure it sounds plausible?

ETA: Okay, but on the positive side, most of Shepard's dialogue with Thane I actually find quite nice to hear. Something about how she tells Thane he's lonely makes me think my Shepard does actually possess emotion.

I've always wondered what comes next if you don't pursue the romance with Thane, but he still calls you "siha" with a promise to tell you what it means some other day.

The thing about Thane is that he's not the type who says everything out loud. I've always had the impression that he has much more to say than he normally does. I even noticed that when I imported my female Shepard. For instance, there is a flashback (or two) that only appears if Shepard is a female. He also tells you more about Irikah and his personal life if you're a female. Despite this, I'm sure he's still got a lot to tell. But like I said, he's not the type who makes a habit of getting stuff off his chest. And that's more or less why he won't admit how much he loves Shepard. If anything, when he first says "siha", it sounded (at least to me) as if he said it unintentionally. Then it stuck around. What else could that mean? I think it's a no-brainer.

Also, for the nth time, best romance in Mass Effect (1, 2). No question.

I've viewed Thane as someone who doesn't talk much about himself by default, 'cause who wants to when your life is that of an assassin. But I see him being unable to hold himself back when he's talking to Shepard in private. Sort of like how it takes him a bit by surprise when he stops to think when he last spoke about his wife to someone. I think that's part of what helped him build a relationship with Irikah, he learned to be a fully functioning individual in her presence.

Though now I see how much Irikah could tease Thane just trying to teach him about basic life. Wonder just how well an assassin learns to integrate into society. Best way to disguise yourself is to look like you're no one special at all, which means knowing all about living a basic life. Hmm.

Agreed.

Even the "just friends?" line, which could've gone horribly wrong but Hale makes it work.  It really seems like she's simply testing the waters, while expressing interest.  Not engaging him like a cat in heat (Jacob) or blatantly propositioning him (Garrus).

(Don't get me wrong, the latter totally works in the context of that romance.  The former?  Not so much.)

Ashley's romance is just next in line for me. She and Thane are by far the most interesting and compelling love interests in my opinion. Reasons are pretty obvious, really.

I do like the fact that they give FemShep the option to tell Thane to get out and see the crew!

Too bad, they don't have the crew making conversation like: Hey, did you see Thane come down here?"

"I think he was eyeing me."

"He must like you."

"No, I stole the dessert from his plate."

Have to put Thane's theme here:

I love his theme. It fits him so well.

All of L'Etoile's characters can give Shep a nickname, I notice. With Ashley it was skipper, with Legion it's Shepard-Commander, and with Thane it's siha.

It's one of those subtle terms of endearment that occur in everyday life with just about everyone, but for some reason you don't see it much in games or their fiction.

Oh, and my obligatory contribution:

Memory /=/ Comprehension

Thane does imply that there are Drell scientists, i think. I'm not totally sure. Hanar seem very advanced, though, so it's not laziness  to let them conduct the majority of research

They destroyed their planet with over-aggressive industry; the question is moreso what morals allowed them to advance so irresponsibly without regard for their planet.

I don't think any amount of genius could save their planet, and their society as a whole was collapsing.

They aren't slaves; Slavery has a specific definition--atleast how we perceive it-- and they do not  fit that criteria.

He says that they didn’t developed fusion when their planet started to die (so that could solve something). But they have enough comprehension. The lack of knoledge is usually the problem for not solving things. And ok not slaves - servants then. And I was kidding about laziness.

I don't think it was so much the drells' fault as it was the state of Rakhana to begin with. The whole reason drell even evolved eidetic memory was so they could remember water and food sources, because both of those were so scarce on their homeworld. From the codex and Thane's descriptions, it seemed Rakhana was never a rich world to begin with, and as the drell continued to grow and populate, they couldn't advance technology fast enough to combat the planet's quickening decay. Rakhana could only support so much life.

In order to build a reactor, you have to borrow from the world around you -- but Rakhana had very little to offer, so even small advances made for a huge cost. If we humans had lived on such a world, we wouldn't have been able to advance tech as fast as we have here on Earth -- we'd probably be technologically stunted and die off fighting for resources just like the drell almost did.

I've just started a new multichapter fanfic. Do let me know what you think.

Title: Atonement
Rating: R
Characters: Miranda, Thane, Mordin
Pairings: Miranda/Thane, Male Shepard/Tali in later chapters.
Summary:
As
the Collector threat looms ever larger and those she thought she could
trust turn their backs on her, Miranda finds solace in Thane's company.
His death seems inevitable, but the woman behind the Lazarus Project won't let him go without a fight.
Author's
Note: While this is in no sense a conversion fic, the fact that Mordin
and Thane are central characters means that there is some discussion of
religion in this story. The views expressed are not necessarily my own.
