Thane's romance rushed?  Interesting.  I've read the same, but I never got the feeling of it being rushed.  I think it's a pretty natural relationship that builds out of mutual respect.  I think he's more surprised that Shepard has feelings for him, and I think it surprises and interests him that he feels what he does for her.  I think it's so cute to hear him a bit flustered. This cool-as-ice, steady-as-rock guy just a tiny bit off kilter.  "I've never felt affection for another species before, I'm ... not quite sure what to do now."

I don't understand how it's rushed.  You don't even get to flirt with him until the 3rd or 4th conversation, which I believe is the longest it takes for any male LI in either game.  And that doesn't even occur until a friendship is established.

Conversations go as follows **SPOILERS** kinda:


[edit: do the Dantius Towers/post-towers debriefing with snarky Jacob/generic Investigate conversations count as well?]
1.) Initial conversation - Hi, you're sick, what's up?
2.) Loyalty quest - I guess this can prolly fit in anywhere before the romance option
3.) Drell culture / Sunset-colored eyes flashback
4.) Solipsism explained - this one has the "Just a friend?" option.  You can flirt, but it's not the romance intro, as no matter what option you pick, even if you tell him not to get the wrong idea, you will go on to the next conversation.
5.) Irikah's death/Siha reference - this is the romance opener.  At the end, you can tell him to just focus on his son, which will end the romance; or, you can pick the "I want you, Thane" option, which comes out as  "Maybe I haven't been as up-front as I should be.  I'm here for you, Thane.  Whatever you need."  The romance can end, but you will still get the next conversation out of him; however, it will end differently.
6.) Confession - Talks about having once been resigned to death, etc.  If you're in a romance, he'll explain what "siha" means and confess his feelings.  If not, you're still given the confession prompt, and still siha, but instead of telling you what it means (which he does say at the end of the previous conversation regardless of what option you pick) or even saying he met another siha that day in the Dantius towers, he'll say Shepard gave him a reason to live, gave him a chance to talk to his son, and no matter what, his gun is hers.  D'aww, he still wuvs her... just... quietly... and from the darkest corner with the best view.  editedit: the non-rom version confused me, but it is correct
7.) Plans - romance-only conversation with the option to break things off.


In all honesty, I'm not sure how this compares to the other conversations in terms of being rushed.  I can go back and do saves to put Garrus' conversations in order if I riiiiiiiilly wanted to.  editedit: additionally, Thane's in the second round of dossiers.  I can see how that might make some things feel rushed.

I did notice that. Thane seemed to grow to care for Shepard even before the loyalty mission.  I think it is cute XDD

I think Thane becomes friends with Shepard during the loyalty mission as he begins to respect him/her. Then they become closer and in a fem Shep case it moves on to a romance whereas with a male Shep they become BFs.

I don't believe that Thane's romances was rushed. In fact it's one of the better paced ones.

In comparison to the other LIs, Thane is the last one you can recruit. For Tali, it may feel like the relationship with her started with the first game. So everyone basically has a lot more time with Shepard, than Thane does.

Also, with the factor that Thane is dying, there is this added rush feeling that there isn't much time left.

I believe some of us already talked about that there are probably several months for the game to take place. So it's not really rushed if you look at it that way.

I do kinda like the idea that the romance is faster than the others. I feel like the romance has a point that life is short and fragile no matter what, so enjoy what you can.

How about intense lizard staring as an alternative?  Besides, I doubt banner space would do the bulge justice.

You all are nuts, zippers and bulges. I almost spit out my water when I saw that  As far as Thanes' romance being rushed, I don't see it that way. I think it had a more mature vibe to it which is why I liked it so much. The only way I can keep from romancing him is to not talk to him but, that is so hard!

So I went back to ME1 and created a character just to romance Thane and I'm glad that I did

I agree. Thane's romance didn't seem rushed to me, Shep needs time to build trust but love doesn't come out suddenly.
Jack's romance is more rushed in comparison imho (because of that "barrier" of hers).

Although I didn't romance him in ME2, I like Thane too, and check this thread regularly, and it disappointed me to see the Kaidan killing and harming fantasies here...they're not original or funny, when you see them everywhere except for the haven of the Kaidan thread.  It makes me sad that I have to stay out of other LI threads if I don't want to see the same old tired jokes and fantasies about violence against him again and again.

My post in the Kaidan thread was really only targeting one person's description, which by extension, could be seen as an insult to actual people.  Apples and oranges, really.

Like I said, maybe my definition of 'bashing' differs from others... but as far as the jokes about killing Kaidan, I don't think it's any different than wishing you could throw other characters out of the airlock to get him back.  Dead is dead.  And neither really bother me.  Of course, I'm only speaking for myself.  *shrug*

We have the same definition of "bashing" then. I can get Horizon sucking and all, but sometimes the negativity in the thread makes me go away.
I stayed "faithful", I "cheated" and I went solo. I did a romance with all the character except for Jacob(was bored with game by then).
I make fun of all characters I like and especially the ones I just absolutely adore. I'd say Garrus, Joker and Tali are the only Mass Effect characters that fall into that line for myself. I have a riot with this guy.
