If I'm not mistaken, Kaimana, there was a recent article about Mark Meer (and possibly Hale) having officially been assigned to voice Shepard for ME3. They never mentioned the other characters, though. So I think you might just be right -- they finish up with Shepard first, and then move on to the others.

I don't know why...maybe I'm just naive but Bioware hasn't disatisfied me yet in their games (Though I only played KOTOR, Mass Effect 1 &2). Even though I wish they more interactions in ME2 but that's my only gripe So I'm going to say this: Bioware will not kill him off.

Well, in my predictions from what I decduced from the ending and DLC that we will be getting. ME3 will take place right after ME2 or a couple months. (Because I mean The Reapers are coming to the Milky Way right now...this instant.



So....Bioware will not kill him off.

I really hope they call Keythe back. Thane needs to be a squadmate in ME3 or I will be very unhappy. Not knowing if he will or won't return is the worst.

I actually stopped by because a few people on a different forum were discussing unique (possibly unused) dialouge that was recorded for Thane in ME2. For instance, I've heard from a few different places that if you romance Thane and choose him to lead the second fire team during the suicide mission he will die and say something like "I hear the sea. You are so beautiful, my siha" 

It seems there are people who have heard this and others who haven't. Anyone know anything about it? I even forced myself to try it on one playthrough but I got a generic "shields wouldn't hold" response and my Shepard was romancing him. Of course, I immediately reloaded and made sure he survived.

Several people have reported hearing that line, Julia. Not me, however. I'm not willing to kill him. Not even seeing him die.

I felt horrible when he died which is why I reloaded immediately. I made sure he survived all of my playthroughs. I'm just really interested in hearing the line. Apparently it was recorded but I'm not sure if it's officially part of the game or just one of the unused recordings bundled in the game.

The exact line is: "I hear it, a sea. You look so beautiful, my siha." I've seen people mention they got it in their game. All you need to do is romance Thane and then assign him as Diverson Team Leader in the suicide mission. I'm not sure why Julia didn't get it, though. Looks like I'll have to try it myself after all. I do have a save where I can do so.

I feel the same.

Surprisingly enough, out of the 6 main romance options, only Jack and Thane have romance-driven dialog when killed off as Diversion Team Leader during the suicide mission. Jack says something about being "too happy" with Shepard.

I may or may not have put him in charge of the wrong team or something, but when I was playing around with different squad suicide mission scenarios, he didn't say that for me.  I got the shields failing line instead.

Although, those lines /do/ exist in the sound files, as well as completely alternate suicide mission lines where he refers to Shepard as Siha as opposed to Commander or Shepard.  I didn't hear any siha-specific lines at all while playing.  Maybe it's a PC/Xbox difference or somesuch doom?

If people really wanna hear him say it, I can make a .wav of the lines together (they're two separate files).  But I don't know how great they'll be.  They sort of clip at the end.


as an aside- while digging through sound files, I found a clip of him saying "I never gave my own son chocolate" during his loyalty mission (I assume when discussing Mouse)   I don't recall hearing that in game, but I also didn't go through and replay every possible choice for that dialogue.


edit: and now that I've strung the two files together, it occurs to me that maybe I can leave the dying noise out of it >.>

Ok, temporarily breaking my status as a forum lurker. Just can’t help it, because it just so happens I was trying to get Thane’s unique Collector Base line last night, and couldn’t manage it. I dunno if it makes a difference, but I’m on the Xbox. I attempted it two separate times but never got the “I hear it, a sea” dialogue, though my Shepard had romanced him. Then I gave up because I was just traumatizing myself. But I did get the other line during the conference with the Illusive Man, where Thane encourages Shepard to destroy the base. He does call her siha there.



Anyway, I’m here to say that yeah, if you could post that snippet of dialogue, I’d love to hear it. And also the one about the chocolate. Heck, anything you can get/want to post. You’d have my gratitude.

The comment about never giving Kolyat is when you take the Renegade option when you meet Mouse, I think. If I recall correctly, Shepard says something like "I've made people far more important than you disappear, kid." and then Mouse says something about how Thane used to give him real chocolate. My last two playthroughs were Renegade, and I remember hearing that line.

As for the unique death dialogues... I thought those were all cut from the game? The first time I saw them was on the Something Awful forums, where I think someone found them in the hidden files. Jacob also had a unique dialogue if he died while romanced, something like: "Sorry Shepard, looks like you and I won't get our time alone." That suggests Jacob was previously considered to be a bad fire team leader, right? :S

Yeah, that sounds like Jacob was once considered to be a bad fire team leader. He lives now if you pick him. I also read somewhere, can't remember where (maybe it was here???), that Thane used to be considered a good one. It also sucks those unique lines were cut, I think they would've added a lil' something. Never fails to amaze me what people can find digging around in the files, though. I'm not very computer savvy, so they're all tech gods to me when they come up with Paragon Conrads and buried dialogue.

Got him to say this line on my latest playthrough. Seems to show up if you use the Renegade dialogue on Mouse, but don't take the interrupt. Mouse brings out a recording which gets Thane talking about his family.

....one of these days I'm going to finish my ME1 renegade playthrough and import it so I can do these things. I almost took those options with my paragade or renegon or whatever she is, but I felt too bad. Mouse looks so nervous.
edit - Turns out I don't have a save leftover from that loyalty mission, so I'm just gonna have to find one that's close enough and run with it til I get there

And thank you cindalkitty! It works. Somehow, that line is even more depressing than I imagined it would be. But it's beautiful too. Once again, shame it was cut.

OMG! Thank you so much. It's strange because I've been wanting to hear it for awhile now but it actually hurts me a little to finally hear him say it. Oh, Thane!  I really wonder why they decided to cut the line. I would personally never let Thane die if I could help it but still I think the line adds something to the gameplay.

I play on the Xbox and the only romance specific dialouge I ever managed to hear during the suicide mission is when Thane advises Shepard to destroy the base when the Illusive Man is trying to convince her to keep it.

And yeah, I've heard the "chocolate" line before. I think I have a save around that point so I might try to replay it. Normally, I'm too scared to use the renegade option with characters I like because I don't want to end up saying something "mean". Thane's response in that instance was heartbreaking though and Mouse mentions Kolyat having the same sad look in his eyes that Thane does. I swear I teared up a little.

Hm.  I suppose I should upload a wav sample of something less depressing to counter that one.  Any requests?  Something funny?  Sweet?  Random?  Solipsism moments aren't quite the same without the flashy noises, unfortunately.

I wondered why they might take it out, too, and the only conclusion I could come up with was the likelihood of it ever being used was minimal - i.e. "I would personally never let Thane die."  Probably a pretty good chance that people took their LIs with them in the main team or went out of their way to make sure they stayed far away from doom, unless maybe they were romancing Garrus and had him leading fire squads like I did with my Garrus-loving-Shepard.  At any other point where they might die, in at least two of those scenarios they don't get a chance to speak anyway.

Time to go muscle some chocolate conversation outta Mouse.  andnotmixinsadromancemusictomakeotherwavevenmoredepressing
