Yeah, I don't see the qualities being mutually exclusive. From what he's wearing (it takes some guts to make your crotch a target, and, of course, the exposed skin of his chest and that spot on his back), to how he stands, to what he's like when you first meet him (walks right up to the gun pointed at him by your squadmate, hands behind his back all *intense lizard stare* surliness and challenge), to some of the stuff he says in his conversations (..."the taste of another's tongue in your mouth. Wouldn't you rather lose yourself in such a memory than spend the night alone, staring at walls of metal and plastic?" And I think I blush a little every time he says "The memory possessed and endowed me." I mean, c'mon... OVERSHARING)...
He may be quiet, meditative, introspective, spiritual and thoughtful, but I think he carries the same fearlessness that makes him so goddamned scary as an assassin into how he interacts with others if someone bothers to engage him in conversation. And let's not forget moments when his pride flares up (he's quick to point out the differences between what he does and common thugs/mercenaries) and little splashes of vanity in his idle animations.
If he was all sexy swagger and confidence, I don't think I would have gone for him, though. Infact, that's what I was afraid he would be when I read that he was an assassin, because I don't think ME1 or ME2 really has any male LI like that. That, and he was pretty - those lips, those big black eyes, the colors... So, yeah, I immediately thought he'd be some kind of clichéd scoundrel derpiderp.
So glad he wasn't. BioWare did an excellent job at balancing him out.

Ouch. I felt my heart twist reading that line.

My answer : I love both. Two sides of the coin. I love me some smart, confident, subtle guy who says what's on his mind, but he's not in-your-face about it . I also love me some face-punching, neck-snapping, collar-popping hot shot who can melt the ice in a glass 20 feet away.
100% agreed on this. If both halves were not present, he wouldn't be nearly as interesting

How is that part oversharing? I mean I'm pretty sure he didn't mean... erm, like that.
Or maybe I'm misreading. If so, please disregard.
I understood it as endowing him with a new/changed perspective on life, love, his own mortality, etc. Endowing him with a new purpose, new goals, etc.
That tongue line, though... that's the one that always gets me red in the face. LoL. Yay for human squeamishness?

This did occur to me, too, but waaaaaaaaaaaay after the fact. He just left it at that.
It's how he says it that makes me O.O
"The memory possessed and enDOWed me."
Why add an inflection there? Why??
...it makes my brain skip over the innocent stuff. I should maybe blame his voice actor for that. Hm. He'd know if it was innocent or not. Purer than your intentions.
If his writer had just added a word or two for clarification... or chosen different words altogether...
"Possessed" is a pretty strong word on its own as far as connotations go.
And the context involves the memory. Not the actual moment (though I guess one could argue it's the same thing to a drell, but still!). It makes me think SOMEONE was thinking about this long and hard instead of staring at walls of metal and plastic before acting on it.
Given how Thane talks about things, recounts memories, I am also inclined to believe that Thane (by way of his writer) is very purposeful in which words he chooses to use. It's really hard for me to dismiss it as entirely innocent when there are so many other things he could have said to make the meaning clear without choosing one that had, erm, more personal connotations attached to it.
And goddamn, did I mention HOW he says it? And his little lizard face, that hint of a smile, the eyelids all a-flutter, when he says it? Gyaaaaahhh He also gets that sort of excited when recalling "someone else was pushing to reach the target. Forcing me to move faster. Challenging me. I had to reach her first."
I don't think you're misreading at all. I think it's just very... open to interpretation.
I blame his voice actor.
I blame his writer.
I blame my english teachers!
I'm innocent.:innocent:

Wow, never thought of that line that way O.O
It sounded innocent to me....Oh dear.... Though hearing it again, I can see why XDDDD
That tongue line..I was like: Whoa Thane!
Though I wished in ME3 for humor, that he remembers that night with him and Shepard XDDDD
Joker: O.O TMI THANE! TMI!!
Thane: My apologizes.
LMAO!

I do love how calmly and deliberately Keythe Farley delivers his lines. Knowing the intended meaning behind them would most likely prove interesting, but... on the other hand, I almost don't want to know. To find so many possible meanings behind a single line... just one more reason why Thane is so fascinating to me.
Not to mention, it's a definite bonus finding others to share and compare interpretations with.

I definitely caught the excitement in his voice over the "I had to reach her first" bit, but I do see now how the "endowed" line could be taken in very different ways.

Its adorable how excited he gets. When I see some say he's too calm or too stoic, I think, "Wait? Are we talking about the same character?" He has emotionality, he as life, spark. Its subdued and almost deadpan, but if you are paying attention, and you should be paying attention, then you would see it.
The soft chuckle he does when you tell him it you were told it was impossible to get to Ilos. "Fair point." I loved that. Or the smirk when he says, "Well, here I am." My only thought when ever I see that is, "Yes here you are." That moment makes my toes curl.
The moment, when he stands and walks as he talks about Irikah, that was another, "oh" moment. Thane from all angles. *sigh*
Its fun to make interpretations from what he says. That's the best part.
I have a confession. I love his walk. :whistle:The sway of his hips.... mesmerizing.

I really hope he returns to ME3, and I support a quest that would help cure him, he said himself that the Hanar are working on a cure. Maybe you could find something during the main quest that could help give the Hanar a breakthrough or something.
I support Thane Krios as a returning squad mate, there is so much storyline there it'd be a WASTE if they wrote him out or killed him off at the beginning of ME3.
@Hainkpe: NICE PIC!!!

And yes I agree, his walk is mesmerizing. Darn you Thane!
What do you guys wish they do for Thane in ME3 (Besides Cure or prolong his life) if your Shepard romanced/Best buddy him?
(Even if it doesn't happen.) I wished it would turn out with Shepard taking him to the desert. (I know it won't happen but a girl can wish, can she

Once Shepard gives Thane the green light, so to speak, he makes his interest known, both subtle and not-so-subtle. Do I think the interest is there initially? I'd like to imagine that it is. We know Thane knows about Shepard, he acknowledges her 'They told me I couldn't get to Ilos' line. But I doubt Shepard, once s/he shows up is what Thane was expecting Shepard to be. The challenge of the pursuit through the Dantius Towers, someone who is able to keep up, make him move faster, make him think harder, ignite that spark that had been unlit for years (non-romantic connotation). Thane respects that, I think, more than he is interested in 'Shepard The Hero Of The Citadel'.
Which is one of the things I love so much about his romance.

I hope we see a continuation of the romance, period. I'm a huge BW fan, but I am getting just a little bit
I know, that was totally a tangent.
Regardless, even Friend-zone Thane is one of the closest people to my Shep who romanced Garrus. I would like to see Thane continue on with Shepard's crew. I can't see him doing anything else, especially since he's seen and experienced the Reaper threat firsthand. Yes, he'd be in contact with Kolyat, but Kolyat's a grown man, he doesn't need Thane to take care of him (and I doubt he'd appreciate it if Thane started in with the 'Clean up your room young man!'). I expect Thane to fight until his very last breath.

Thanks! The symmetry in that pic is great. They both are walking in the same matter, with the same expression, the same step and arm swing. Thane is just a step behind but its just cool.
I'd like to see Thane stay around. I would love it if Drew K. did a series just on Thane, his back stories, the ten years before meeting Shepard. THAT would rock and I would buy it.
I think Thane would continue on with Shepard. He's loyal and trustworthy.
Edited to add some stuff...

I hope we see a continuation of the romance, period. I'm a huge BW fan, but I am getting just a little bitabout picking up with new stories / new characters with their games. I love that ME2 gave us such great characters and I understand why they gave us a new team. But I expect that team to make it into ME3. If they don't it will completely invalidate anything that happened in ME2 for me and I would be hard pressed to even be interested in ME3. Yes, Mass Effect is Shepard's story, but these people, Ash / Kaidan, Liara, Wrex included, they are all characters in Shepard's story. It wouldn't be much of an ending to the story to chuck them all out the window when the grand finale is finally here. That's like picking up Return of the King and suddenly Aragon is really a gnome named Frank and Sam turns into a horse and Frodo is about to toss in the ring and here comes Gollum, the beautiful warrior princess.
I know, that was totally a tangent.
Regardless, even Friend-zone Thane is one of the closest people to my Shep who romanced Garrus. I would like to see Thane continue on with Shepard's crew. There is so much right with everything written here, I just had to quote it.
What do I wish they'd do for Thane in 3 besides cure or prolong his life? Well, initially, I would have said something involving the Shadow Broker, but since that's upcoming DLC, uh... well, there's always the desert.
If you fail his loyalty mission, the conversation following delves a little deeper into his "The galaxy is a dark place, I'm trying to make it a little brighter before I die" philosophy. He says removing evil is not the same as creating good (Kolyat being the only good thing he ever added to the galaxy). He'll also say something like, "My wife's dead, my son's lost. My body's acs in this life are tales never to be told. When I am gone, it will be as if I never lived."
That always makes me think of him talking about Mouse's holo. "He wants to know that I'll remember him, that anyone will remember him. I take the holo."
So maybe something geared toward adding something good to the galaxy (that doesn't involve Shepard becoming an alien baby machine:alien:) or aiding Thane with something HE wants to do by his own choice (though I guess sticking with Shepard is something). I just have no idea, at the moment, what counts and what doesn't.
