Hello guys and gals. What's new, apart from Kimihiko's great drawing? Is it just me or does Thane's praying just make you feel humbled? Every time I see him pray I'm like "Wow, you really care about this don't you?" Which I think is great. What I do wonder is, why does he continue if he hates taking lives. Is it because he knows he's the best, it's all he knows how to do or is it something else? What do you think?

I think it's complex.

In the end, I think that, despite circumstances and what we experience in regard to him in game, he accepts that what he does is an unfortunate necessity.    How does any soldier or police officer reconcile having to use lethal force or make a snap decision that could result in the loss of life?  It can't be easy, but that doesn't make what they had to do any less necessary.

For so long as he knows he is needed, how does he say no?

I've wondered why he didn't quit when he had a family, but he says he has few other skills, and I guess none of those skills would have provided well enough for his family.  Or maybe the exotic dancing was just too undignified.

Yeah, like the "necessary evil". He hates to do it but if it protects someone or it is for survival, he has too.

If Thane is skilled with a knife, he could probably give an expert caesarean...

Thane is one awesome character. Didn't romance him, but he's has an interesting viewpoint of the world. I hope you guys get your wish.

Thane's viewpoint. Ah, working to make the world a brighter place. I can identify with his point of view. The world is a dark place, people need to make it brighter. AND more people need to wear tight leather. I have been saying this for the last few years. I think the pendulum is swinging back. Yay! Women can now appreciate men wearing clothing that actually fits! Maybe a little too well but, you got to take the good with the bad.

Congratulations on over 150 pages!

I stayed true to my original ME1 LI but Thane is easily my favourite of the ME2 crew. I felt he had a very compelling story and a loyalty mission that really stood out for me.

Mordin:  Thane complex as well.

One of the things that appeals to me so much about Thane is just how grounded he is and I think his faith, his spirituality plays a huge role in that (I think his personality is another part of that also).  It gives him something almost tangible to connect with, something that he can focus on and find his center.

Why does he continue killing.  I'd imagine it's for several reasons.  One, like CindalKitty said, I think he views it as a necessary evil.  Two, much like a professional athlete or musician trains / practices for his/her entire life, I don't think Thane can just shut off what he is with the flip of a switch.  Hence, why he claims he had no other skills so he continued his assassin career while married to Irikah.  Three, now that he's with Shep and Co. he's in like-minded company.

I don't know that Thane thinks or knows he's the best.  He takes pride in his work.  Imagine that he's a conductor, his body the orchestra, his weapons the crescendo.  Killing, to him is an art form, one that he's highly trained for and incredibly good at, each kill is another brush stroke on the canvas.

Yay 150!  :wizard:

From the Blur trailer-
TIM: "He has no idea what he's getting into.  To his credit, he's recruiting an impressive team.  Assassins, scientists, biotics. He's scouring the galaxy for the best.  Ilium..."

"I was chosen for this mission because killing is an art, and I am a master."

Oh I think he knows he might just be the best - it helps lend to his matter-of-factness, I think.  Even dying, which couldn't have been unknown to T.I.M., they still want him.  He knows.  Oh yes, he knows.  Unless TIM really was like "Well, I ran his e-harmony profile against Shepard's and I think they'd be a good match."

Favorite ego moments~

"If I have to fight through guards, I've made a mistake.  I rarely make mistakes."

"Pride is the line between a professional and a thug."

"You've spent too much time fighting thugs who think custom painted armor makes them professionals."

"Any combat training conditions the body's reflexes.  My training was very thorough."
(omnomnom to his voice actor and animator there, too.)

I wonder... if it weren't for his spirituality... how likely it'd be that he would he have ended up as one of the bad guys.

Cin: love the quotes!

Thane is confident without being cocky. He's strong and silent, a real cuddler. In the end, TIMs assessment of him being the best was spot on. Not just in the way TIM originally meant.

Maybe it's just me but when he says that last line about my training was very thorough... My heart goes pitter-patter and I get the impression there is a double meaning.

Goofy! How could you? LOL That is one of my favorite pictures of him.

Now he's the Mwahahaha kind of evil. I thing if Thane went evil I think he would be lawful evil not chaotic.

Good point.

So alternatively, he could be Thane's sexy, evil twin Shane.

Oh it's so tempting to make that my avatar.

And yus, Hai.  I sorta had a "well hello" reaction to that line.  But then the brain starts going horrible places with him and hanar and... ohgodmakeitstop.

the quick (and rather stoopid) answer would be Zevran, the not-so-quick answer would be - he has no equivalent. i'm against equivalents, so i'm afraid i have to kill you nao :bandit:

Yeah I... yeah.  Um.

Well.

Mentality or skills?

He has Leliana's grasp of the spiritual, Zevran's skills, but Sten's strong, sensitive (c'mon, he likes cookies, picks flowers, and trains kittens) murdering-type of personality.
