Now, every time I listen to "Cat's in the Cradle" by Harry Chapin, I am always struck by the lyrics. Especially the end.

"And as I hung up the phone it occurred to me
He'd grown up just like me
My boy was just like me

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man in the moon
When you comin' home son?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then"

Before ME2 and Thane, I found the song coincidental of the son following in his father's foot steps. After ME 2. I now think its a very sad song.

A pattern of behavior that is going to be play out again and again. Father isn't there for his son, so his son grows up, becomes a father, and isn't there for his son... Yet the song hints that the father wanted to be a part of his son's life but didn't know how?

In the end, all you can do is hope that Thane can heal that rift.

And yet, another reason for him to NOT DIE! It always comes back to that, doesn't it?

You know, people annoyingly compare the Thane/Kolyat story to the Carth/Dustil story in KOTOR. Aside from the fact that Thane and Carth are so completely different from each other (character development counts, too!), how Kolyat and Dustil react is also different. Kolyat tries to follow in his father's footsteps. Dustil tries to join an organization completely at odds with Carth's.

well. the thing is - Kolyat tries to walk the path that is at odds with his fater now. it's like Thane was Sith, but he left for the light side and now he's more like Carth

O.O Crap! I listened to that song before!

Now that I hear it again, I agree. It's so sadPosted Image

@Pacifen

Yeah...

Hey guys, what if instead of a son, Thane had a daughter?

How would you think events unfold?

If Thane had a daughter? That is an interesting question. I would assume that if he had a daughter things would have turned out a lot differently. How, I am not sure, I would have to think about it.

I'm not sure what to say. I mean, no squadmate dialog? Really?!

I've been playing DA all day. Also, you're not making my life easy with your wild pessimism, which unfailingly turns out to be truth. :?

Okay, this just occurred to me. How are we to be sure who the author of that preview chose as their squadmates for LOTSB? For all we know, Thane may not have been there. So there might just be some last-minute hope still hanging around. I'm not holding my breathe, though.

Yeah...A lot of things..

Hmmm...she probably would look like Irikah more(that happens usually)

Instead of following in his footsteps, she would probably try to track him down or something.

As a woman who looks more like her father than her mother, I would wonder if she would look like Thane? You know, the same coloring and markings?

What I find interesting with Kolyat is that the song, Cat's in the Cradle, says, little boy blue and Kolyat's coloring is blue. I wonder, did they base him on the song or was there something else? Maybe blue was someone's favorite color or green for that matter.

I remember something about bird of paradise. Also, Thane's markings, he seems to be a hybrid of lizard and amphibian qualities. What did they base his markings on? Which species or examples did they use?

I am just full of questions today.

Hello, hello. What's this about Thane having a daughter? I would assume she would be lighter in colour and I would also assume the same markings or perhaps the markings of her mother as she may take after Irikah. I would assume they looked at lizards and geckos when coming up with a design for drell.

For some reason i have a soft spot for father-daughter relationships (well i'm a daddy's girl through and through), it's really heart-warming. So Thane with daughter would just make me a pile of goo. Total overkill

If she looked more like Thane...maybe a brighter green? Maybe markings will be different...

I also wonder if Thane had a daughter, I wonder if he would have been more protective of her. I wnder if she would acted more like Thane? Interesting! XDD

That's very interesting. Thanks for sharing (really, I mean it). I think Thane would care for all of his kids. He cares so much for Kolyat that he even tries to stop him making his mistakes and I think that he would do the same for a daughter if he had one. I think anyone would be close to Thane. I know if he existed we'd probably be best mates as he has soemthing alluring about him.

Oh yeah, if only he did...though I'm such a shy person in real life. I will be so timid Posted Image

Thane is very protective to people he cares for! If you have Thane as a friend, friend for life man!Posted Image

I showed that song to my mom and I explained to her about Thane and his loyalty mission. She's not into video games but when I showed her the scene where Thane talks to his son, she almost cried. It just shows how much emotion is in that scene and even someone who isn't into Mass Effect can understand it.

If Thane had had a daughter instead...

...she'd probably be a romance option.

ME2 lacked surprise alien sex. I see now how this could have been remedied. Instead of running off to become a hitman, her daddy issues would have led her to a life of sordid but financially beneficial affairs.

I bet House could fix Thane's Kepral's.

edit: my apologies.  It was getting way too srs up in hurr.
