Thane says he has 8-12 months left. If we knew the length of the time period separating ME2 and 3, we could make a logical conclusion as to what happens to him.

Myself, I think ME3 will either start with Thane's condition starting to get serious, or with him magically cured somehow. I refuse to believe that the game will start with him dead (i.e. he dies in the gap), but it would make absolutely no sense.

That's what I think too. They will start out with Thane in condition where he starts showing symptons, get us all worried...(Things get worse before they get better)

I trust Bioware that they will surprise us. They are just keeping us on edge.

I really hope you're right. I will be more than upset if he is dead at the begining if ME3.

Another way of looking at this: They obviously spent a great deal of time creating and writing Thane. They can't just write him off like that; there has to be some sort of plan for him.

That's true. The same applies with every ME2 squadmate imo.

I hope they have something planned for him. If all they were going to do was kill him then why bother to create him in the first place. Why go through all the time and effort just to get rid of him.

One of things that used to cause me some epic rage is the constant posts, 'All LIs will survive and be in ME3.  Except Thane.'

Except Thane.

It still snarks me off mightily, but I don't respond to it very much, if at all anymore.  There are plenty of reasons why Thane can and probably will survive and be in ME3 (his status as an LI being one of them) but if those people can't be bothered to see past the whole 'I'm dying' schtick,  then I can't be bothered to type up a response listing all the reasons why I think they're wrong.  And why I hate that @#$*!% 'Except Thane' qualifier.

I still think his illness was completely unnecessary.  The man has enough baggage without being terminal.

Ah but the writers are creating tension, turmoil and conflict. For those of us, the lucky few, who get this, it causes a deeper emotional connection. Humans are emotional beings, we are social. We want to connect to others and be connected to others. As I have been on this forum and NSAS more and more, I feel more and more connected to Thane. I NEED him to live, to be treated, or cured, or something! I am emotionally invested in a character and this happens a lot. More than people realize. Why do we have favorite TV shows or actors or singers? Same dynamic.

The writers are tapping into that emotionality. I wasn't surprised when they gave us the letter. As much as the letter and report made me cry, and yes, I cried. It made me so deliriously happy because the writers have a plan. And its going to be great and spectacular and I am going to cry more but love Thane's character in the end all the more. Its a bittersweet journey and, in my opinion, its sad others aren't willing to overcome their discomfort with death in order to reap the benefits.

I <3 Thane!

I do also like to see when people are converted. The astonishment is so wonderful to see. :)

Exactly. Same in my case KaiMM. There was a time when I seriously wanted to have "press this button to slap the idiot over the screen". But now I just stay silent. Sadly however, those who keep saying "all, except Thane" rarely stay silent.

I believe BugGirl, that this wars are a result of fear and concern. With ME3 on the way and few indications that say something in the line like " expect more memorable characters" and "not all squad will return", people are desperately defending their favourtie characters, trying to find reasons as for why exactly their favourite character will remain in the squad. Sadly this finding reason likes to end with looking for indications why others could not be a part of crew anymore. Simply put :
By cutting off other characters they're trying to justify the staying of their own favourites.

Never the less, I for one do believe, like you others do, that Thane will remain. I think it was stated that romance options play quite an important role in ME3.
And a simple question. I've read it in another thread and thought it would be interesting to see what you guys think. How would you feel if this major LIs' role would be something like this :
a) save your LI    B) sacrifice LI for greater good

Hope they won't go that way since it has been played so many times, like DA:O.

I have to say that this universe, this ME universe, has so resonated with me. I have had some unpleasant things happen to me in RL over the last 6 months that this place has been a haven for me to escape into. I've been able to totally immerse myself and it makes some of those nasty RL things somewhat easier to bear!

Even though the journey is as you say, bittersweet, I can focus on the sweet.

I haven't played DA but I have heard that many were pretty ropable about the choice they had to make.  I don't know how I'd feel if I had to make a hard choice in ME3.

I think Thane is the only male love interest that writes a letter in the dossier, or not?

EDIT: My mistake. At first I understood that he writes the letter to Sheploo as well.  I am sorry for that.
Still...
It's damn good to see guys around who actualy see Thane as awesome.

Yes he is the only one that I'm aware of.  My femShep who romanced Garrus never got anything.

EDIT yes she did get something, Garrus has a sister, that made me very happy, and a mother who was sick (that made me sad)

Not that I'm complaining, about any of it, all those dossiers were full of win.  Plus my femShep who does romance Thane got a lovely surprise.

Ooops, darn coffe and kittes.. *blushes*

I see where I messed it up. Forgive me that I missunderstood.

It's awesome that he's the only LI who writes the letter. I was honestly really suprised by it. Didn't expect it. So it blew me away when I read it.

My tissue supply was gone. Like in a minute. * derp *

Fair enough to dislike a character for whatever reason and people have valid reasons for their dislike, but then to insult those who do like those characters is rabid fandom in its worst possible incarnation.

Truer words.

I both love and hate the character threads.

I love the intelligent discussion that you can find in some of them.  There are some great people who have really interesting ways of seeing these characters and I like to read their insight and thought processes very much. There's also alot of great people who have a pretty wicked sense of humor that never fail to make me laugh.

There are also alot who play the 'My LI is better than your LI' or 'Your character sucks, my character is better by virtue of being my favorite' or 'If you like X-character you're bad and should feel bad'.

I think having a favorite character is natural and if you dislike a character that's perfectly fine and natural too.  But putting down others because you dislike their favorite character is uncalled for, outright rude and shortsighted.

Well, I just did some quick research, and it would appear that Thane is in fact the ONLY love interest that writes a letter. Not just between the male ones, but also the female ones.

I'm pretty stunned at this, as well as wondering if it means or hints on anything...

Sometime ago, a forum member said something to the line that Female Shepard was suppose to end up with Jacob because of the kiss post suicide mission. Now there is a letter... hmm....

Thane LI FOR THE WIN!

Thank you. Back then I had lots more time. Nowdays, not so much. But I do promise that I'll take my pencil and paper back out of the dusty drawer to draw more Thane.
