Heh, when you see Shep looking like that, you wonder why Thane offered to join at all. It suggests he isn't a stranger to being treated rather abruptly and with insulting ignorance. It's also rather telling that he still believes in innocence at all. Perhaps the fact that he is a fond if absent father is the cause of that.
Finished the new DLC recently. While I loved the confirmation of Thane's feelings in his letter, the rest of it was just depressing. I've never cared for a video game character before like I care for Thane, and just because he's special to me, I feel Bioware is going to really screw me over. Wah, I need icecream.
Now, I understand the depression. Thane is near and dear to us all but, even though he wrote a letter for Shepard to see in the event of his death, doesn't mean he's going to die. We know he is dealing with an illness but until Bioware actually finishes ME3 and we know the true fate of our beloved Drell, then its all speculation.
I, for one, choose to speculate in a different direction than his utter demise.
1. No other love interest sends Shepard a love letter. (Yes, it is suppose to be read at his death but that's beside the point.)
2. He loves Shepard. Its a fact. HE LOVES HER!

3. The medical report is bad but not terrible. There are options he had not chosen. Perhaps now that they have survived the mission and WHEN Shepard tells him, "I love you, Thane." He would reconsider.
4. He has a purpose, to protect his Siha. To be there with her in the coming darkness.
5. He needs physical activity and not isolate if he is to stay relatively healthy. Shepard is MORE than willing to help him with... physical activity not not be alone in isolation. *wink, wink, nudge, nudge*
So, all we have is hope and a prayer. Really, we don't much more than Thane at this moment. We have no power or controll of the developers. But, some writer, whom ever that may be, put alot of work into Thane. Lovingly detailed character that he is. They would not invest so much time and money in him, he is in a lot of the promotional material for ME2, just so they could indescriminately kill him off.
I firmly believe, we will get the option to help Thane save himself. For those players who chose not to like Thane or help him, that is their choice and in my opinion they are missing out. He is lovely.
Have hope. Hope saves lives and hope, is the best thing we can do for our Thane.
I <3 Thane
