He has a vey charming smile. He's starting to remind me more and more of Christopher Lee as Francisco Scaramanga every minute!

A charming smile indeed.

I know why he is smiling too!  He sees Shepard in that dress!

I knew it turned him on! XDD

Right now, I feel like Jodie Foster in Contact when she's staring into the stars, "There are no words, it's so beautiful'.

Yeah, just like that.

I agree with Liara's opinion on romancing Thane. Enjoy the happy moments, and learn to let go.

Funny enough, reading about others dreaming about Thane got me dreaming about Mass Effect...

It was curious because I didn't dream about ingame stuff, but about myself talking to someone about how much I enjoyed the series. That now that it was over, replaying wouldn't be the same since I knew I wasn't going to see anything new about all the characters I came to care for. That I was going to miss them sooooooo much, specially GARRUS...   Image IPB

Dreams are weird like that. I can never control what I dream about and it certainly in no way reflects my actual thoughts on things.

Seriously.

You always come up with great questions TSG, I just wanted to let you know that. <3

If I had to pick one, the theme of hope would top the list.  When Shep meets Thane, he's resigned to what he believes is the only path left for him to follow.  He's not so much melancholy about it as he is willing to just let his body expire and have the galaxy move on without him.

As a side note, one of the things I like is that even in that state, he's not without his selfish tendencies.  Obviously the Dantius Towers was at least a little bit of a challenge for him.  He didn't want to go out on a whimper, he wanted to go out with a roar and he wanted to take a few of the bad guys with him.  But at that point, he has no hope for the future, he sees no future.

I've said before I think he's quite surprised at first that Shepard is even interested in speaking to him, yet she always shows up - and listens.  That's got to be a big deal for someone who hasn't spoken to anyone in ten years. After Shep gives him the green light, I think he begins to see a possible future.  He hopes they come back alive, he hopes he can be with her and he hopes that by doing what they're doing (defeating the Collectors you naughty monkeys) they can make the galaxy a better place.

Romance aside, I think even friend-zone Thane feels cautiously optimistic by the end of the game, but he keeps his head firmly attached.  He knows he's only got so much time left, that's something he never forgets.  Where it differs, is how torn up he is about that if you romanced him.

I like the forgiveness and hope, too, but I also like the acceptance and honesty parts. He's one of the few characters that doesn't have preconceived notions about Shepard and what he or she should do, and he just seems to accept Shep as Shep is. He reacts quite naturally and without much artifice when you ask him difficult questions, and there's just something so honest about the way he is written. Quite apart from his luscious looks, he's a very likable, admirable character apart from the killing and revenge. Image IPB

This is one of the things I love most about him.  Of all the female romance options, he is the only one who doesn't have some sort of hero worship thing going on with Shepard, at one point or another.  Right from the get-go, he truly treats her as an equal, even challenging her.  This is made all the more clear when he tells her he wants her help, he doesn't need it.

But I'm going to have to go with the hope theme, as well.  At a glance, you could just say that theirs is a tale of a woman brightening the last days of a dying man.  Which would probably qualify.  But, as we all know, it's something much deeper.  When we first meet him, he had accepted his fate, without a trace of despair or fear, only to be awoken at (what he planned to be) the last minute.  He also seemed to accept his isolation as someone undeserving of anything more. Yet once Shepard shows she cares, he is able to recognize that he still has something of worth left to give.

Rambling post is rambling.

I don't know why, but I had a strange morning, thinking what his name might mean..

It's funny that Thane Krios can be sort of translated as " elder titan - cold ". Guess in winter I'll be saying the word "krios" quite often...don't know if that's a good thing or a bad one, considering that a certain green assassin will pop up in my mind everytime I say it. Ironically Thane is far from being cold as a person, unless one refers that in his case cold could mean isolated.
Titan..well he is sort of is a titan, swaying around with dem tighs and as KaiMM likes to say "epic table punch baby, epic table PUNCH "

Now I want to poke through one of developers genious mind to see if they intentionally named him "Thane Krios ". If it was just "Oi this name sounds badass, let's use it " (insert Casey Hudson big grin here ), then I shall bow down to Bioware becasue his name sounds all but a result of "five minute" brainstorming.

edit: I want a winter Thane cap so badly.Image IPB

My favorite theme to Thane's character is probably... survival.  But in more than just the "oh my gosh, he has a terminal illness" sort of way, but how he survived the destruction of his family and his guilt over it.  Admittedly, Shepard plays a very large part in that.

If you fail his loyalty mission, he succumbs to it all - considers himself a failure and is deeply regrettable that his life has been for nothing.

If you're successful at his loyalty mission, he's almost like a totally different lizard than the cold, matter-of-fact guy you meet in the tower and in the first few conversations you have.  He's optimistic, thankful, and at peace.

And if you romance him, he's able to move effortlessly from the past that had served for so long as a comfort and a curse, and onto the future, however small it might seem, simply to live and to love.

The other theme - duality.

I am a sucker for duality.  Real Batman girl here.  Reconciling the spiritual with the physical, need and want, the body and the soul, what it means to be "awake" and "asleep," reality and memory, etc... and what sort of person its made him.  Or, rather, what sort of person he needs to be to navigate that duality with success (remain "whole" and functional).

In regard to his name, when I hear "Thane" I immediately think of "Thanatopsis" and then "Thanatos" - a deamon in Greek mythology who is the personification of death.  Apparently, it's also the term sometimes used to refer to Frued's "Death drive," which I didn't know.  And Krios, I associate with cold like his wiki article says.

I don't find funny that t-shirt at all, sorry

In fact I find it a little insulting...

I being in this forum for a couple of months.. posting, and I will leave it now, for my own reasons, I don't feel comfortable anymore here, I just hope that bioware keep Thane in ME3, that they cure him.

I will support Thane in my own way, Ou and I am not trying to draw attention or be dramatic, I just want to say goodbye and good luck to everyone.

Surely that has to count for something.

Now that is an interesting thought, what kind of music would Thane listen too?

I, myself, think he would listen to classical mixed with classic rock.

It's not my fault!  I blame whoever made that Futuristic Lover video with all of its Thane-y goodness.

The song burrowed itself into my head, where it laid eggs that hatch intermittently, periodically pushing the tune further into my brain meats.

Or something.
