Thane and Jacob? Conflict? Hm.... All I know is that I would die with laughter if I did see that in action.

Quite frankly, I wish we had the opportunity to perform a Renegade interrupt during the debrief following Thane's recruitment; I really wanted to shut Jacob up.

Yeah, during that, I wanted my Shepard (esepecially my canon Shepard, she doesn't like it when peole speak before she could.) to be like: Hey, Jacob, he is volunteering. Shhhh!

There was nothing wrong with what Jacob said. He was just voicing his opinion.

It has more to do with a) he's not your CO, Miranda is, and as such, who the hell is he to debrief anybody or question your orders? B) He says nothing about characters like Zaeed. He's less suspicious of the freaking geth you take on the ship.

It mostly has to do with how aggressive he gets. It's the only time he does, and for most people, it was rather shocking and unwarranted. I have to wonder if Jacob and Thane weren't poised for a conflict the way Jack and Miranda were, but had it cut because of the VA change. That would be too bad. It would explain why Jacob is so suspicious.

I don't consider Miranda my CO.  She put herself in that position not me. I don't really trust her. He didn't question my orders. He voiced an opinion of Thane. I didn't agree with it  My shepard wants to hear what her crew thinks. She listened she didn't agree and she moved on to the next thing. How was that agressive and why would it be a shock to anyone. It didn't shock me.

If it was Miranda, I wouldn't mind.

Jacob is there to take care of the guns, not to lose a nerve during post-recruitment defriefings.

You may not, but that is her job on deck. It's not like you reassign her or anything. Jacob is your Gunnery Officer.

Besides, listen to this, then listen to his other recruitment speeches. I'm not saying I hate Jacob or anything, but this seems rather unwarranted. He never says anything about having a bounty hunter who does take checks, or having a psychotic criminal aboard. As I said, he seems to be less suspicious of the active geth then he does of Thane.  I really wish we knew if they were going to have a conflict. That would make of sense.

It really didn't bother me what he said. He just gave his opinion. You don't have to agree. I don't want to hear anything from Miranda with the way she goes on and on about how great Cerberus is.

I would like to add: Jacob wasn't even politely voicing his opinion. I mean, I don't mind him saying that, but not in front of Thane, who had JUST entered the ship! He could've waited until Thane was out of sight and told me everything, but no, he said it all right in front of Thane, just like Garrus told me of his opinion on Cerberus after his recruitment.

I'm sorry, but I do not and cannot tolerate such an attitude, not even in real life. If someone doesn't think much of a friend of mine, I respect their point of view -- as long as they keep it to themselves or tell me about it in private, not in front of that friend. It's just unacceptable.

Yes he was rude about it but I'm not going to hate him for it. Tali was also rude to him when he was just being nice to her. Jack is rude to Miranda. In the first game Ashley is rude to Liara more than once . You don't even know Thane at that point. You aren't friends yet. You haven't even talked to him.

And Tali was right? No. Ashley was right? No. In a post-recruitment debriefing, the newly recruited member deserves to be welcomed, especially if a critical mission is involved.

Also, I don't hate Jacob for that. Just saying it wasn't the best way to voice his opinion.

Yes, but Jacob is one of my officers. Not my XO (I accidentally called her CO up there, whoopsie). If somehow "Gunnery Chief" is also synonymous for "acclimating new crew members officer", whatever. But his job isn't to make my new crew members suspicious of me. He could have waited for Thane to leave, or anything.

Sure, he was expressing his opinion. But, as my subordinate, he should of shut his mouth. An XO can give you advice. My Gunnery Chief should wait until asked or until the guy he's welcoming can't hear him. Besides that, it's disconcerting--he doesn't like mercenaries, but says zilch about Zaeed. Is Jack somehow less of a liability? Legion? As I said, I don't hate him for it, but it's certainly not endearing. I would actually be more forgiving if it meant FemSheps got a LI conflict. But we don't.

When Jack and Miranda fight right after finishing their loyalty missions. It has really nothing to do with romance, but all three male romancables have a conflict, and none of the female ones do. We know there's the Jack/Miranda one and the Tali/Legion one. There was a Mordin/Grunt one that was cut for time constraints, and they chose to keep the ones wtih romance options instead. It seems like they were setting up for a Thane/Jacob one, but either there were time constraints or because they switched Thane's voice actor it wasn't done.

...I guess that leaves a Garrus/Samara one.

...Uh. Okay. Probably they never actually were set up to get into a fight, especially considering Morinth is a little crazy if she fights with people right after being recruited, and that Samara is supposed to be obeying your orders exactly.

Then there would have to be more to it. We know why Jack and Miranda have there fight. Jacks histrory with Cerberus and Miranda working for them and defending them. Tali and Legion is obvious also. The same with Mordin and Grunt . I didn't know they were suppose to have a conflict. That would have been interesting to see. There doesn't seem to be a reason for Thane and Jacob to have a conflict unless there is something about them we don't know.

Jacob always annoyed me during that moment. I usually just facepalm and silently go "Be subtle, man!" in my head everytime I hear it... But really, it does seem like there would be a conflict there. Shame they cut it out. I'd love to take Thane's side there...

I don't know what Jacob says if you dump him for Thane (I know he calls Garrus a cuttlebone if you do) But Thane? No idea.

Jacob's way of handling the situation demonstrates a lack of tact in an otherwise rational debriefing. There is nothing wrong with voicing your opinion on someone, but you must know how to do so.

As far as a Thane-Jacob conflict goes, I have no idea. But I know for a fact that a Grunt-Mordin conflict was supposed to be in the game, before it had been cut for some reason. Someone managed to extract it from the audio files and post it up a while back. It was pretty interesting.

EDIT: @JEC, right. Back to Thane. :D

It's something like "Women always go for the drell eyes." It isn't as bitter as when you dump him for Garrus, more exasperated and resigned.

As for my two cents to the Jacob/Thane issue, my problem isn't that Jacob isn't my XO. It isn't that we don't truly know Thane yet. It's that we're on a suicide mission. We aren't just crusing through the Terminus, partyin' and pimpin'. The outright hostility felt by a crewmember could jeopardize the mission, on which we all need to be totally focused and put our personal feelings aside.

I do agree that there must have been some sort of loyalty conflict between the two at one stage since it's really the only thing that makes sense, but I don't see how it would work. I'm just imagining Thane sitting at his desk, hands clasped and ignoring Jacob, who is busy standing against the wall, arms crossed and glaring daggers at the drell. I doubt Thane would lose his cool at something so trivial as someone not trusting him--he's got to be used to it--and it would just make Jacob look like an insecure jerk. Not good.

I don't see any bashing here at the moment, everyone seems pretty rational. And it is a thread about Thane, and other people's reactions to him should be fair game.

And if there is bashing? No worries, as a Jacob fan I will jump into the fray and defend him! Yes, we actually do exist Image IPB

I only started this question to see how people would view IF Thane and Jacob had a loyalty-conflict scene. I didn't want this to start a bashing session.

It was just an innocent question.

It wasn't directed at you. I know it was just a question. I thought it was a good question. I see a lot of it going around these forums, and most of it is directed at Jacob.  I don't want to see this thread that I enjoy coming into get like that.

The conflicts are simply about personal feelings getting in the way. Jacob makes it very clear he doesn't trust Thane--it's possible Thane could have done something suspicious that got Jacob riled up. In the three fights we know about, it's the more impulsive one confronting a calmer one, for good reasons or no.

As I said, it's not in the game. We don't know what Thane or Jacob might have done, but Jacob's suspiciousness would at be explained if they were setting up for a conflict.

Okay..so we don't get anyone angry here.

I want to see how people write that scene. Write out the scene that you envision it to be. Which is what I thought I said but I guess I need to reword.
