I think it'd take him time to adjust. He'd probably not like it for a while then start to get used to it.

I agree. I don't think he would be to happy about it, but in time he would hopefully come to accept it. Shepard didn't exactly make a great first impression, but she wasn't really trying to.

In the end, he's going to have to deal with his mother being replaced, having to accept Shepard as a step-mother and then get to know her. That would take a long time. I'm not sure whether Thane would be around to see it. He may be, it would depend on how accepting Kolyat was. I'm not sure how much that would be.

Hopefully he will come to accept her, but I think it will take him some time. He is still angry at his father. He probably needs to work out those issues first. I don't think Thane would hide his relationship with Shepard, but he may not tell him about it right away.

So guys, did you know that Thane totally isn't a real romance?

I mean he's so going to die off-screen before ME3 even starts. Forget the people who romanced him, those who think of him as a friend, and the huge amount of work they did creating and promoting him.

HE HAZ TEH SICKNESS!

/rant mode off

Now that I've got that out of the way, I think the relationship between Kolyat and Shepard will take some time. I mean, the relationship between him and his father hasn't even been fully worked out yet. I like to think that while there may be some tension that never goes away, they reach out to each other during some hard times--like Thane's death

Loved the rant. I wonder what these same people are going to do or say if he isn't dead in ME3, and they actually give us a way to save him.

As for Shepard and Kolyat...  In the Grand Scheme of Things™ I think how they relate to each other is way down the list and Thane and Kolyat have a lot to work through before they get down to the point where Shepard and Thane's relationship would be relevant at all to Kolyat and Thane's relationship.  If Thane lives, and if they save the galaxy from a reaper invasion, and end up having any semblance of a normal life, then I think it might matter more.  Just not so much in the immediate future.

If he dies and they both attend the funeral, it has the potential to get awkward, but Kolyat could just assume Shepard's there to pay her respects to a fallen squadmate.

From a fanfic perspective, it could literally go anywhere - Shepard bawling at Thane's death, squadmates outting Thane and Shepard to Kolyat as being intimate, Shepard trying to reach out to Kolyat, etc.  But in what the game might address, I think it'll be way more limiting or not addressed at all.

Thane is likely to survive in ME3. I think we'll see his return. I thin it'd be bad form for Bioware to leave out such a delightful and magnificent characetr in their grand finale. I think that if he does die before ME3 then we'll probably be treated to a very depressing funeral where we'll see a very distressed Kolyat mourning his father and regreting the little time they had together. And as touching that would be, I prefer that he's alive and well (well, semi-well) in ME3.

If they give us the option to save him or not to save him then we might see a funeral if you didn't save him. It could be a very touching scene if done right. I really don't want him to die at all. I want him to be in the game, and I think he will be. At least I really really hope so. If he dies before the game even starts I will be one very unhappy person.

Why cant we just go and kill a Drell-Merc, rip his lungs out, and transplant it to Thane? There, problem solved.

Ok, amount of drell in Mass Effect series: Thane (no option, he is the one who has Keprel's syndrome.) His son, Kolyat (I don't think Thane would approve of ripping his sons lungs out.) And Feron, whose lungs are probably a lil messed up themselves. No drell mercs, dang!
Apart from the minor flaw of there being no drell mercs, that is a brilliant idea!

Kepral's Syndrome is one of those conditions where the disease spreads across other organs, which apparently has already happened to Thane, per his medical report from Lair of the Shadow Broker.

As tempting as that may be I don't think Thane would really like that. Also it would only be a temporary fix not a permanent one.

I have to say that it was really mean from Bioware that they put Thane in this condition. Maybe they thought it would be more darker and dramatic, and forgot about the sorrows of the fans. Maybe Thanes love confession was a kind of Bioware saying "sorry".

I think someone said there was an interview with Casey Hudson that all LIs are equal. I couldn't find it (there are so many interviews out there) but even if he did not said that I am sure that they will not let Thane die. If so, they must do it with all LIs, because otherwise it would not be fair for the fans.

So, either everyone of the LIs is alive in ME3 (and hopefully after ME3 too) or all are going to die because just an other suicide mission or in an attempt to rescue Shepard or so. But this would be quite dark and I think Bioware will keep at least a way open that leads to an happy ending - like in ME2. And after saving the Galaxy, Shepard should at least have the right to be happy with the LI.

Ah and I found something in a Casey Hudson Interview (but I suppose it is not new for you):

"Q: What's your favorite new race and why?

A: I’m really happy with how our new character Thane turned out. He’s a drell, and he’s a very cool-looking snake-skinned fellow who is a potential love interest in the game. Our challenge was to create a male alien who was cool enough to be a stealthy assassin, but would also be attractive to female players. His final look complemented his voice acting and overall persona in a way that created a pretty original addition to the universe."

and this one:

"We wanted to ensure that every bit of feedback was incorporated, from things players loved that we wanted to preserve, to things players wanted us to improve or add."

So - Bioware really wanted to make Thane being attractive for the players and he is a favourite character. And additionally, Bioware is listening to the fans and their wishes (of course Bioware cannot make everyone happy but they try).

So dear Thane fans - don't worry anymore. Everything will be allright, you will see.

Thane rocks! Totally glad they put him in. I think he is the most interesting character in the game. He has loads of different layers to his personality, and if Casey loves him, then I'm sure he will play a major role in ME3.

Even though my picture and signature is all Garrus :)

I support this whole-heartedly, despite how unlikely it seems at the moment.

Surely there has to be a morally repugnant hanar out there somewhere with a morally  repugnant collection of drell assassins just begging to be killed unfortunately die in combat and have their organs harvested in order to buy Thane more time.:wizard:  IT WOULD BE A SHAME FOR THEIR ORGANS TO GO TO WASTE.

It's nice to know that they like Thane as much as we do.  I'm still very hopeful that he will be alive in ME3.

But if Thane does die in ME3, it will be sad, but I'm sure it will be such a brilliant scene, even better if he has romanced a femshep. I don't think they will simply 'cure' him. I think it is too obvious and cliche. It would also be a bit boring. We need something amazing to happen to him in ME3, and I'm pretty freaking sure it will!!

If he were to die it could be a great scene if it is done right, but honestly I don't want him to die at all. If they find a way to prolong his life with the hopes of finding a cure then that's fine with me. I hope that they will do something amazing for such a great character in ME3.

If Thane doesn't make it to ME3, I will be very disappointed. I would cry and possibly start a letter writing campaign. LOL

I'm not sure who I would write too, but someone would get a letter! You can count on that.
