I love all the squad, so Thane should definetly be alive in ME3. He's a very interesting character. Cameron, my Shepard, finds him to be very thoughtful and immensly skilled.
I agree with Cindal...now where to find me a drell merc....Image IPB

If you could give Thane a skill set of six powers, like Shepard, which would you give him and why?

Oh, that is a good question Sky...

I can think of two:

Pull

Geth shielding

In the cinematic trailer, Thane actually uses Pull on three Collector soldiers.

Delurking.

Edit: I'm sorry (no, I'm not, muwahaha), for asking a question when Stanza already asked her/his.

Since my intenions are not benevolent when creating this question ( a friend made me do it, darnit ), I hope you'll all feel ok anwsering it. I'm really curious in how you think about it.

Anyways, the question before I start twaddling too much.

Thane is a master in fight, artist on the field, neck-snap manly man, skilled, cares about his cup of his cocoa and so on. Do you think he's a master also in...well fade to black thing ( lover ) as he is a master in fighting?

I'm willing to accept any kind of "throw tomato in my direction" thing for this utterly silly question.

Id give Thane Pull, Goto's ninja strike thing, and an Assassination skill. It will be an AoE where he kills everybody in that circle to death with his fists.

If he were to die it could be a great scene if it is done right, but honestly I don't want him to die at all. If they find a way to prolong his life with the hopes of finding a cure then that's fine with me. I hope that they will do something amazing for such a great character in ME3.

When people mention beautiful death/funeral/touching doom moments, I think back to Virmire, and I have to echo what JEC mentioned above - it would be a great scene, if it were done right, but...

Any other death in Mass Effect so far has been pretty underwhelming.    The Virmire sacrifice, there's nothing.  No touching last words, no heroic last stand cinematic, no tribute after beyond answering Miranda's questions on the way to the other Cerberus base, and hearing in ME2 that the character was posthumously awared medals from the turians and salarians.

Even Shepard's own death was pretty meh.  Now, admittedly, if the beginning to ME2 were any longer, I'd die.  However, it would have been nice to see how Shepard's death affected people she'd helped or were even close to her - her LI, Anderson, her mother/Talitha/Toombs, Conrad, Hackett, etc.  Instead, you get a lot of  "Shepard?!  I thought you were dead!" "I got better" in ME2 and news blurbs.  Jacob says "most people didn't even know you were dead" while everyone else and the news blurbs prove otherwise.  Every semi-meaningful reaction you get is so after the fact - the Virmire Suvivor on Horizon, Liara, Garrus, Tali... I dunno.  The most that was evoked from me was how my Shepard felt about seeing them again, and not the other way around.  It was all very... bleh.

If someone dies during the suicide mission, there's no moment to mourn them or react, you just keep going and then... THEN... you get a semi-touching moment at the end where Shep's standing in front of one or more cerberus coffins, which just makes me D: ... because I don't know how we got the bodies back at all.  When Miranda died on one of my play throughs, the only way I knew she was dead was seeing black vinyl legs in the screen while Collectors ran past, which makes me think her body got left behind.

Mass Effect and death = anti-climatic. :(

Potential Thane Abilities:
- Necksnap Kasumi-like gank move.
- Battle Sleep - an AOE Kasumi-like gank move ala Dantius Tower
- Close ranged pistol bonus ability or...
- Laser dot -  something like concussive shot only it's a guaranteed headshot or something
- Some sort of stealth or damage evasion
- Prayers: self or squad.  something like...
"Arashu protect us" - BAM! bonus to armor, barriers, and shields
"Amonkira reveals them" - uncovers freaking geth hunters, omg.  Or knocks enemies out of cover.
"Grant me forgiveness" - bonus to health/shield or barrier recovery?

@Aello
Aello!  You lurk-a-potamus.  It's been a while.

I'd say, given his eidetic memory and likely having an extensive knowledge of different alien physiologies to know where to hit/shoot to disable or kill his targets... yeah.

yeeeeeeaaaaaah....

Like I said, I had no benevolent intentions when coming up with the question, nor reasonable ones( except the fact that I needed to ask it for research matters of delicate nature, you know.) I was writing it with a big plummy chuckle upon my face.

Speaking of that. What would be the one thing that would make Thane pout?

Dear Lord, if there's one thing I would wish to see is pouty Thane ( yeah, I'm an idiot tonight that brings a big bag of silly questions when delurking ).

I like what cindalkitty put for Thane's abilities. There aren't many buff abilities in Mass Effect except for barrier and different ammo.

I don't think it is in Shepard's character to dwell on people's deaths. But I do agree, that for the story, the death scenes need to be done better, i.e if Alistair or the Grey Warden does the final sacrifice in DA (not a spoiler I hope!) It does need to be more cinematic. But for Thane's death, because it is an integral part to his character, I'm sure they will make an exception (if he does die that is, I hope he doesn't!)

On the other hand, concerning Thane in the more delicate matters discussed, I'm sure he is very dextrous and nimble. He could use his biotics to his advantage, and, for goodness sake - he's an assassin! Course he's good! ;)

You actually can see the goodness in action when he so, so gently kills Nassana Dantius and lays her to rest.  The sensuality in that act sort of had me floored the first time I saw it.  He seems to have a *cough* very *cough* good idea of many species' anatomies...

I love your questions. So fun!

Well, I think Thane would never actually pout, but I think he would flirt with a pout. Personally I think he would do puppy eyes VERY well.  Lowering his face then glancing up at Shepards face, oh yes. That would be adorable.

Of course the whole lip pout, I can see your point. Aesthetically, yes, I can appreciate that as well. He has lovely lips.

@Cindal: your post there blew me away. Everything I've wanted to say about Mass Effect and the death scenes/treatment all together and in such an eloquent way.

As for pouty Thane, I don't see him doing it normally, but if somehow he found out Shepard would find it cute, he would do it the next time he wanted something. (Do drell even pout? Is that cultural? WOULD SHEP HAVE TO TEACH HIM HOW TO DO IT?)

I concur with Sky. A fan fic is in order unless Aello is already working on the very thing.

Shepard dying and coming back after two years didn't really seem to be a big deal. You would think it happened all the time. No real reaction from anyone that knew you before you died. Shepard also doesn't get to talk about how she feels about being dead, and then resurrected after two years. Things like this make me wonder if they would put any real time and effort into a death or funeral scene. Like I said before I  don't want Thane to die in ME3. There is so much potential there with his character. They could really do something special with him if they want to. I just hope they really want to.

And all of those potential abilities for Thane would be great.

The answer to this question is YES. He just comes across as someone who knows what he's doing. At least he does to me.

Ahem... As for pouting, if Shepard doesn't take Thane with her in the suicide mission? Or if Thane gets lost in a memory, and Shepard pouts. But Thane just lurves that pout.

Thane's dossier from LOTSB seems to imply that he actually does have a good idea of the different anatomies and biology between species. Shepard might have figured that out by herself anyway.

Damn straight she did! I think Thane may know about the anatomy of various species than Mordin?

Actually, the way I see it, Mordin knows this from a scientific perspective, whereas Thane knows it from a martial arts perspective, but not necessarily scientifically. Sure, the fundamentals are mutual, but anything beyond that probably isn't. Similar to how a mechanic knows how to work with instruments and such but is not familiar with the actual physics involved, unlike a mechanical engineer, for instance.

I stand corrected, they just know about anatomy in different ways. Unfortunately, Thane doesn't sing as Mordin does. If he did it would be grunge.
