True, true. My Shep is a spacer, sole survivor type. ;)

I can actually picture her around 55 or 60 retiring to the Shadow Broker's base, and like 100 years later some fearless young asari emerges in the galaxy rumored to be the daughter of its hero.

Ah, I love over-analyzed pipe dreams.

Lurk-o-potamus emerging from the shadows!!

I love you guys - Garrus and Thane are my faves.  I almost always roll with them, though I do love some of the other characters.  They are just the most bada** squad.  Of course, like many of you, I can't help but feel like Garrus is my brotha-from-anotha-motha' ... and Thane is, well, he's irresistible.  Seriously.

Oddly enough, I was head-over-heels crazy for Garrus back in ME.  I got my paramour achievement with Kaidan, but it was sort of so-so for me.  Like Ravenimage said, I just didn't feel like he knew what he wanted.  Every time I went down to the cargo hold to talk to Garrus, though, I longed for him to make a pass at me.  I looooved his voice, and his character.  I totally intended to go for him in ME2, but then, the calibrations... and when Thane made his appearance, it was like there was some super magnet pulling my Sheps to him.  The zipper - must be some kind of drell love-magnet.  *Sighs.*

I did make sure to do one Garrus-mance run, though.  I plan for it to be my scandalous love triangle playthrough.  I mean, I 'cheated' (though I still don't really see it as cheating) on Kaidan with Thane in another, but it feels so much saucier to upgrade to Garrus, who was there in ME1.  Zing!  Haha.  I can't wait 'til those fireworks.

Anyways - it's been far too long since I've thrown my two cents in here.  Long live Thane!

Garrus, Joker, and Tali I see as unrelated siblings of my Shepard, but I totally know what you mean, Tentura!

I went into ME2 fairly unimpressed with the romances of ME1, and expecting little difference in the new game. So I thought, "Okay, I'll go for Garrus. Logical choice -- he and my Shep are already close." Got to the point where he's enthusiastic about bow-chicka-bow-bowing with a human, now...

I get to Thane. Hear his voice. He quotes Thomas Hobbes. He wants to save my species. All I could think was "I wonder if the life support deck is sound-proof."

Now whenever I think to romance Garrus, I kinda get weirded out. He's like my brother. It's like we're comfortable to the point where we're "too" comfortable to be a couple.

I liked Garrus in ME but I never thought of him as well, love interest material. You're right he felt like a younger brother.

Garrus was always the fun one to talk to in ME. I did enjoy just hanging out with him. He was always so eager and just plain snarky. Loved that. The zipper is magical, it calls to you. It beckons you. LOL

Garrus and Wrex were my fav's in ME, took them everywhere with me. Then Wrex was gone and I was left with just Garrus. I still took Garrus everywhere with me. Then along came Thane. Garrus and Thane have been my dynamic duo since then. They're the only ones I take with me, anywhere. Period.

My husband said tonight, "Garrus is the good guy, Thane is the bad boy. What's your flavor for today?" LOL I loved that! See I love them both, but I love Thane a little more. Jeebus, I did 12 fanvids of Thane, one of Garrus and two of Kaidan? So, yeah, I am a but partial to Thane. :D

Definately. What are friends but family you choose?

How I see the Garrus romance is the best friend turned boyfriend. Heck, I am a woman who married her best friend because I loved him. That kind of relationship works. But I can not deny Thane's smexiness. The list is long: voice, eyes, LIPS, shoulders, thighs, leather pants, leather coat with zipper, reads books, cries, smexy laugh, he loves Shepard, he wrote a letter.

Now, Garrus, tall, awkward, cute as a button, loyal... yeah, Thane hands down.

I <3 Thane.

For me, Liara and Tali felt like little sisters to me.  Especially Liara.  Maybe because I am an awkward scientist, too, sometimes, haha.  I was like, "Aww, she's so cute..." and tucked her under my wing.  Along with lil' Tali... my little tough as nails chick out making a name for herself in the galaxy.  Mah gurls.  Ash I warmed to over time.

Oh I love Wrex.  I couldn't believe anyone would kill him in ME.  Why in the world would you want to do that?  And that ME2 moment where he pushes the guards out of the way to give you that epic hug - oh my goodnes, I still tear up.  And who knows how many playthroughs I've done by now.  I LOVE that moment.  I guess the Archangel-->Garrus reveal would have been like that too, had I not been spoiled for that surprise.  Every time Wrex says "Shepard" I smile like an idiot!

I loved that moment when Wrex says, "Shepard, my friend." I wanted a tackle hug option so BAD at that moment. Just grab Wrex and hug the lug. I actually missed having him with Garrus. I missed the snarky banter and the comments flying this way and that way. I missed the elevator conversations as well! Good times...

See, Garrus as Archangel, that was a total surprise for me. I literally screamed when I saw that. "GARRUS! OMG!" My husband was playing at the time and he just laughed and laughed. I wanted a tackle hug option at that moment too!

I have a lot of people say, "Why would you want to marry your best friend?" I always look at  them like their nuts. We have so much in common, we have hobbies, we can talk, literally for hours and hours. Everyday is great. I am not saying the whole thunderbolt love don't happen because it does. But for me. I fell in love with my best friend who was a tall, awkward, shy, quiet man who loves video games. Just like me. Aww.. he's my Garrus...
And he teases me mercilessly about Thane. ^_^ Never learns or refuses to learn, not sure which.

They (don't remember exactly who "they" are anymore) said it would have negative consequences on your ME1 relationship if you pursued one in ME2. Well, duh. Whether it's a big deal or not, I'm not sure. I can't say I consider it cheating if you pursue an ME2 romance, more like deciding whether or not your Shepard will stay in love with / still care about their ME1 partner -- or move on, like they did.

I can't see Thane getting too excited if a show-down between him and Kaidan is imminent. I can see Garrus cracking jokes while trying to be sensitive to the situation. And I can totally see Ashley flipping out if you pursue someone, with the other women prepared for the cat fight over male Shep.

I totally agree.  I am hoping they write it with attention to each of the character's personalities, instead of making it a one-scene-fits-all kind of deal (to some extent, I felt Ash and Kai should have been more different on Horizon, for instance).  Certainly some characters are more likely to go off than others.  I can see Thane handling it quite eloquently.  Look at his SB letter - he knows exactly how he feels about Shep.  Garrus, less eloquent - probably more likely to get defensive and add a snarky remark about how he had Shep's back against the Collectors... ha.  But, I think he would try to work it out with Kaidan.  He's a good guy.

I can see Kaidan being hurt, but I don't think he'd overreact, unless you just renegade him into the ground.  Ashley - yeah, I think she is more likely to be pissed without provocation.  I guess we had practice breaking up fights on the Normandy already in ME2, right?  Some Sheps might need that skill again.

Kirk Shepard, to the rescue. "I'm going to show you two how all your problems can be solved with my penis."

I have to clarify though, I don't find love triangles "fun." In ME1 it was just semi-inevitable. Even if you nipped it in the bud, you still had Liara and Kaidan / Ashley both on your tail beforehand.  Back to Thane, of course. I agree he'd handle it eloquently. I think he's the kind of person that would pull Shepard aside and calmly tell her that whatever she decides, he just wants her to be happy.

...And then I melt.

*snorts tea that she was previously drinking calmly à la Thane.*  True that!

Yeah, I agree - the love triangle drama is not something I prefer, either.  I went back and re-played ME a couple times to create non-romanced characters (which I didn't have before ME2) just so I could have a non-cheater romance with Thane and Garrus.  Ugh, I really hate calling it "cheating."  Those Sheps 'moved on.'  They didn't cheat!  Back to the love triangles, since I already did a couple cheater playthroughs before I went back to create the new saves, I'll probably sate my curiosity and see what happens with at least one (probably the Garrus one)... might as well see what happens, eh?  But, my favorite playthrough will be one where Shep didn't romance anyone in ME.

This should be implemented in his Shadow Broker's dossier somehow, on the preferred methods of assassination.

Women: Be calm and confident, rendering them into pools of goo.
Alternative: Smile.

I agree, I hate calling it cheating. My first reaction when Kaidan rebuked me on Horizon was, '...wait, did you just break up with me?' Oh, and then he sent me an email detailing how he's moved on and dated a doctor. Thanks, brah. I understand his perspective, but still. It is not cheating in my book.

Still, the romanced character from ME1 -- with Liara for me, anyway -- adds a bittersweet drama to ME2. One cares for the other, but they ultimately let each other go. But I'm not someone you want to listen to if you're into happy endings. Probably why I gravitated towards Thane, lol.

This is exactly what I did. I went back and played ME1 when I really didn't want to, but I felt Garrus and Thane should have at least on unromanced Shepard. I will try the love triangle though. I'm wondering if you will different reaction to Garrus than Thane since he knows Garrus.

Horizon didn't bother me that much, but I do expect an apology for the way he acted. My shepard on the other hand will not be apologizing, because she did nothing wrong. I don't get why some people think Shepard needs to apologize . No she doesn't. The email didn't help at all because he sounds indecisive.

Yeah, unfortunately he is an indecisive character. My Shep doesn't have time for indecisive people on a suicide mission. Of course, Kaidan is dead in my latest playthrough -- but still.

Completely agree that Shep has nothing to apologize for.

I don't like men who can't tell me what they want. I guess that's why I love Thane so much. He says straight to your face that he cares about you, and in his letter he says very bluntly that he loves you. Thank you for not confusing the crap out of me, Thane.

I agree with this. Thane knows what he wants and is not afraid to go after it. He's not afraid to tell Shepard how he feels about her. There is a chance that Shepard could reject him, but he doesn't let fear stop him from tell you how he feels. Thane is also the one to say I love you first with the letter. He may not be sure if Shepard loves him, but he wants you to know that he loves you.

Goodness gracious! I sleep, and then there is a whole page of posts to reply to!!

@Hainkpe, I don't have live at the moment, but when I finally get it, I will be sure to add you! And damn those pre-emptive strikes... *Drops to the floor, unconscious*

*Gets back up again* welcome tentura! I totally agree that Kaidan's reaction on Horizon suggested that the relationship was over. And his message was very indecisive, he didn't seem like he wanted to get back together. So that's why I felt is was fine to move on. No love triangle whatsoever. I couldn't cheat on people in a game, even though it isn't real!

@ ravenimage and JECWSU my shep resented that cerberus saved her, but she was still glad that she was given another chance to live, she had no choice about following TIM'S orders, so I agree, she has nothing to apologise for. She can galavant around and 'bow-chicka-bow-wow' with whoever she pleases! Thane included ;)

And once again, I must express my non-brotherly love for Garrus. He is amazing and has been through so much, so I will give him that happiness. But I do have a playthrough for Thane lovin'. I can see why Garrus is seen as a bro, but he's the one for me. Prob why I will never get married, I'm just too fussy! My boyfriend (well, it's complicated at the mo) was my best friend, so I can see where you're coming from with that Hainkpe.

Thane's assassination techniques:

Women: Stylishly drop from the vent and kill everyone in the room in a heartbeat.

Woman: Melts into a pool.

I am stuck in a love triangle. I have no intentions in going back to ME1 to have a non-romance playthrough for Thane, though I kind of wish I never romanced Kaidan since I didn't do it for anything other than to experience romance as a female Shepard. I'm going to keep it this way.

I didn't want to go back and play ME1 either, but I didn't really want a love triangle. I also wanted Thane and Garrus to have a non-romanced Shepard. I wish that I had made some playthroughs where I didn't romance anyone the first time around so I wouldn't have go back and play ME1 again.

I doubt it will be too much of a consequence anyway. Take LOTSB; from what I've heard, if you've cheated on Liara with someone else, she just outbursts when you talk to her about it, at which point you have the option to either go back to Liara and reignite the relationship or just tell her it's all good and stick to your current relationship.

Basically, it's just dialog.

It took me a while to warm up to the idea of romancing Garrus, but once I did I enjoyed it. I even went back to play ME1 and make him his own Shepard. I do look forward to seeing what happens with these two characters and their relationship with Shepard in ME3. Although I don't really worry to much about Garrus being in the game. I do however worry about Thane.

Its not cheating. Shep died, Kaidan walked away. Free and clear... At least, that's what I tellmyself to alleviate any guilt. LOL This has generated many a fun discussion btw.[smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/smile.png[/smilie]

For me, two play troughs, actually three, one male, he doesnt count for this. One on xbox and one on PC. (yeah I am an overachiever) anyway...

Xbox shep, no romance in ME, just Thane ME2

PC shep, romance Kaidan, then Thane, Garrus, staying loyal to Kaidan and alone.

I have played ME2 more than ME, I will admit that. I love it!

xbox live is fun. I especially like playing multiplayer and talking smack with the guys because its usually guys who invite. For some reason, they can't handle a woman talking smack or being better than them, or having more money... Its interesting. ;)

Garrus is a cutie. My husbands earlier comment spawned from our earlier conversation about loving Garrus or Thane just a tincy bit more than the other. It was a funny discussion to have while making dinner. He made a very good point though, Garrus is a good guy, Thane is the bad boy. I had to quote Kelly when she made the statement about Thane being a bad boy to my canon Shepard, "but good guys are nice too..." or something like that. LOL

See, I am a woman, my favorite quote is. "Nuke'em from orbit, its the only way to be sure."

Just dialogue? How could you say that! LOL  Very true. Liara's outbursts are interesting, I've only seen it on youtube and have no plans on doing anything with my male canon Shepard to find out.

I think is also comes down to what kind of a reader are you. I had an literary agent tell me, "good stories have conflict, great stories are nothing but conflict." I think he's right. There is a difference between romance novels and literary fiction. It comes down to the storytelling.
