I am a bit of an alien fanatic actually, I'm very curious, and I have different aliens in the book I'm writing. Including a shapeshifter who is loosely based on Thane!
Jacks changed profile picture to look more 80s reminded me of Thane's shades in the alternate appearance pack!

I have another question to pose for you all: Is it merciful, or cruel to romance Thane?

It is totally merciful to romance Thane. Merciful for Shepard, put her out of her misery of being so close to his smexiness. She would go insane if she didn't romance him. Poor girl.

Thane's Medical Report From Dr. Chakwas says...
Therapy and Care: At this time, Mr. Krios should continue getting regular cardiovascular exercise in order to stimulate lung movement and prevent or delay the stiffness that causes lack of oxygen transport. While physical stimulation may also be beneficial in keeping tissue flexible, any injury at this point will dramatically impact Mr. Krios' body and cause rapid degeneration. It is unclear how much longer Thane will be able to serve in direct action. Thane should continue to wear loose clothing that leaves his chest uncovered to prevent moisture buildup that could worsen the problem.
This suggests that what is best for Mr. Krios currently is to continue to remain active and engage withother team members(*coughShepardcough*) in order to stay mentally and emotionally stimulated.
Merciful.
/innocent
Why I actually say "merciful" is otherwise, Thane would die alone and unloved whereas as Shepard's partner he's going to die knowing someone believed he was worth his salt and loved him. Also, he's likely to live just slightly longer than expected due to this, though I don't know if BioWare will take that into account.

As to Hainkpe's response, I agree, Thane is irresistable, but I shall play devil's advocate
For me, this just adds to the appeal, but just exploring both sides

Bioware was never going to take that into account....simply because they had no real intention of killing him due to his illness.
Right Bioware? Riiiiiiiiiiight?

No, I will endeavor to be serious this time, since I was bad and posted a Leeg comic.
Answer: no way is it cruel. Even if I knew he was going to die at the beginning of ME3 (God I hope not
Or, we could just fall back on Tennyson, who can say it far better and simpler than I: "'Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all."

On a personal note, if I was dying of something terminal I find comfort in thinking that I would gladly die knowing people honestly loved me even if I had to feel all the pain and fear beforehand, than to die and be content with it.
Edit: This was in response to Tash's post, lol. We all seemed to have posted at the same time!

Neither.
My Shepard didn't romance Thane out of pity or because she was bored and wanted some action with a smexy alien...
I mean, you can't control when/who you fall in love with. But I think it's better to speak your feelings than shutting them deep down. And If the other person feels the same, well, that's just wonderful. Even if its for a short time.
After all you don't really know what's going to happen tomorrow, but at least you both have today...

RIGHT.
There is no real reason to think that they intended to let him die. They could have just added the illness for drama. Although I wish they had found something else. I just hope they give us a chance to save him.

Speaking of fanvids, can any of you suggest a good video capture software? Fraps doesn't seem to like recording long scenes and CamStudio doesn't like Full Screen.
When you say, long scenes, how long are you trying to record? And at what size are you capturing?

50 FPS at half-size. Preferably, I want to record a full scene: Thane's romance dialogue, Mordin's song, Grunt "greeting" Shepard when he first wakes up, etc. But Fraps, whether full size or half-size (I'm not familiar with how it works), only records about two minutes of a scene. Not sure if there's an option or switch somewhere I'm not aware of.
I'd love to make a Thane / Shep fanvid, or at least record their "relationship" so I don't have to repeat the game or make a ton of saves to see it.
I'm also in the process of making a Thane / Shep screensaver, which has only been half-successful so far.

I consulted with my husband and the best he is able to do is lower the FPS to 30 and at half size that should sqeek you out 3 minutes. Or his suggestion you can try Playclaw.

When I used FRAPS, I just let FRAPS continuously record as I played then I went back with Premier and edited the clips back together if I needed. Worked wonderfully. Of course, it also resulted in about 500 gigs of recording. Had to buy a 2 tera external hard drive to contain my vids.
Don't know if this was of any help.

Thank you -- and Mr. Hainkpe -- for the suggestions, I will try them out. :>
EDIT: When I figure out the settings Playclaw is definitely the better software. That watermark on the free trial is annoying as hell though.

Not a problem. Glad I could try to help.
The watermark tends to be a problem with trial software.
