I'm not quite sure what your position in this statement is. It is a sad thing to hear great writers leaving, or developers for that matter, but regrettably it does happen. Simply because a great talent has left no sooner should cause assumption for another talent to ruin previous work.
Should the new writing team choose to alter Thane's fate, well, that's out of my hands as a consumer. Though, I personally feel Thane has a very strong presence as a positive promoter for this game. I cannot make the assumption that this character already was written out, and even if so, that the new writers will adhere to that line of predetermined conduct.
This doesn't alter my opinion, enthusiasm, or confidence in our members of the Cure Thane Krios Fanclub, or pursuit towards the developer's attention in obtaining a favorable outcome for this character.
You appreciate Thane, I assume, because of the way he was written. Since the guy responsible for the majority of that writing has left BioWare, there is no
guarantee that Thane - assuming he survives into ME3 - will be the character you liked so much in ME2.
There may be a writer who can take over Thane and do a wonderful, utterly seemless continuation of the character... but there might not. And, if there isn't, I'd much rather he didn't return because I'm fan of
Thane: not a new guy with his face.
