They added a chain mail in the game discussing a cure for (specifically named) Kepral's Syndrome through religious meditation.  I don't believe the developers would just randomly include a signal of hope for no reason.  Im not saying that this is the cure for Kepral's Syndrome, but the writers wouldn't put themselves in a corner with just one character.  That's would be miserably unfair.

There was also a chain mail discussing Prothean artifacts that you could have access to by giving the sender your account information and for a credit withdrawal.

As for a fairytale ending, ME isn't designed to end that way.  Part of why ME2 is so dark and gritty is to pound that home for those that still haven't realized it.

That's totally your opinion, and I completely disagree.  This game is dark regardless of rather squadmates / shepard survives or not.  Just because this second installment is gritty and dark doesn't mean that it's a certain path to the ending of ME3.

Anyhow, you and I have very conflicting opinions.  Thanks for your responses but we're probably not going to get very far debating this lol. ^_^

The great thing about BioWare is that they give us options. Why create this character, again, spending so much time and effort to make him just right, and not give us the OPTION to save him? Unfair, to say the least.

The game is dark, even if you choose to help everyone survive. Piles of corpses, watching someone die horribly in front of you, the notes from the plague victims in Omega, etc. The rest is up to the player, no?

There has to be something left to live for after facing all that. Why not Thane?

^ Agreed.  ^_^

Then again, they killed of Kaidan/Ashley/Wrex as easily in ME1. Anything goes. On the plus side, I'm guessing they might include more Drells in ME3.

You still had choices, however, regarding saving 'em. With Kaiden/Ash, it was one or the other, but you had the choice to save one. For Wrex, if you did his mission and/or have enough Paragon, you can calm him down and he is not killed. Again, it's about having the choice to save somebody, and Thane fans will be disappointed if such a choice does not appear in ME3.

In those cases, we still had a choice. We could convince Wrex to calm down, and we could choose between Ashley or Kaidan, whoever we liked best. I assume they'll do the same with Thane.

Edit: Ninja'd. I'm so slow.

Kaidan/Ashley was a choice. You could decide to kill off your LI there if you wanted. Or keep them alive. Wrex isn't exactly a LI and even he was a choice whether to kill off or not.

Thane possibly dying in between ME 2 and ME 3 isn't a choice we can effect, and is what worries us.

I'd be pretty shocked if you couldn't cure Thane in ME3. He'll at least get a cameo and I would imagine that would involve helping him get cured (if you so desire).

But, isn't he going to be dead within the year? I wonder how much time will pass between ME2 and ME3.

Since I'm an ardent supporter of ALL LI's returning as squaddies in ME3, I must support you Thane-iacs in your quest; All I ask is that you do the same for us Tali-mancers and Jack-a-holics, as wells as the Garrus Gals, Miranda Men and  JacobShippers

United we stand... and all that:P

What?  No support for those who romanced any of the originals?  Liara?  Ashley?  Kaidan?

I'm hoping all LI's return too, or at least we get to chose things regarding them. It'd make sense to at least bring back all the LIs, but yeah, who knows. Whether it's Tali, Garrus or Miranda or Jack... or Thane, I'm hoping everyone returns cause there's a lot of people who'd be effected if they don't. The ME 1 interests are going to be in ME 3, so hopefully the ME 2 ones will too!

I thought that was included! All LI's should get a chance, I think. Even the terminally-ill-must-find-miracle-cure one.

While it would be an excellent subplot to find a cure for Thane in ME3, I think I'd be just as content if Shepard could take him to a nice desert before he succumbed to last throes of his illness. If Shepard can't somehow assist Mordin obtaining the hanar's current research into Kepral's syndrome so he had a headstart, then an ending where you put Thane at ease would also be welcome.

*sigh* if this game wants to be dark then people have to die, they already bowed over for the everybody must live crowd with the sucide mission..... No more god damn fairytail endings...people MUST DIE.

If you want that for your story then I respect your opinion.  I doubt that Bioware would force a 'fairytale' ending on anyone.  They haven't so far.  Those that want death and tragedy I'm sure will have the option for it (Ex: Blood Bath Ending).

The support of a 'fairytale' ending doesn't seem as certain as possible deaths.  This thread is to support the choice to save Thane.

I agree.  If you don't want a fairytale ending then BW has already shown us that it's entirely possible not to have one, they wouldn't force one on us.  Having said that, I really think at the end of ME3, if Shepard survives, the very least he or she deserves is a nice break from saving the galaxy, a cold drink and a hot drell (or whatever LI you have).

As for Kolyat taking his father's place, I don't think that would work out.  Thane doesn't want that for Kolyat and Kolyat isn't half as skilled or trained or prepared for that kind of life like Thane is.  Not only that but Kolyat isn't Thane.  To put Kolyat in place of Thane is a poor substitute all the way around and kind of cheesy.

I'm sure BW is keenly aware of their female fans, the Garrusmance is proof of that.  I can't imagine they'd go to the lengths of creating Thane, making him one of THE faces of ME2 in addition to making him such great character only to cheapen him by killing him off outside of the player's ability to control the situation.

The search for Thane's cure just might be a DLC event, between ME 2 and ME3. Never know.

^ I've typed this before and would seriously support this DLC.  I think it would be a great way to make everyone happy.  If you want to keep Thane healthy for ME3 (and I sure has heck do! ;)) then we could get the DLC to adjust the ME3 storyline.  For those that don't, well they don't have to bother with it.  Either way...

*Beware incoming Capslock* :?

I'd hope for a DLC too regarding his cure but then they'd probably need to make a DLC for every squadmember to keep it fair. Not sure that'd happen. :(

Maybe we should go and cheer at the Hanar? Some positive encouragment might help their research!

^ goes and cheers :o

...Not to mention we should yell at Mordin to create a cure.  If the darn Salarien(sp) can balance the genophage, and cure a collector / reaper developed plague on Omega... what's stopping him from curing our lovable assassin? <_<

They could actually weave the cure or data leading to it in any DLC they make and then Mordin brings it up after you run across it.

Say some Batarian chemical weapons lab or whatnot.

Rather than the focus of the DLC, simply a side benefit.

I just had a mental image of a group of Salarian fangirls (after Jeirt's ingame reference) camping out and cheering outside the Hanar embassy. *lol*

Edit because goth's do not giggle.

Hah, Salarians crowding the Hanars! That's awesome! Add a jumping and cheering Femshep to that! :D

And I wouldn't at all mind Thane's cure being a side benefit in another Dlc, heck as long as the option'd be there, I'd be super happy. A quick "Hey, I found a cure" and Thane commenting it, would work! I'm not picky.
