Raven, thanks for that pic, I loved it!!! I practically guffawed, and I was very grateful that I wasn't drinking something at the time. It's hard to imagine Garrus as a baby, he's so badass I don't think he was ever vulnerable or helpless!

And JECSWU, I was wondering where you were! I shall confess to you (but I am sure you all already know this) that I loved Garrus since ME1, and was practically shouting his name in the scene with Kaidan before Ilos (yeah, I went there.) And when I saw archangel in his amazing recruitment mission, he took of his hemet, the camera panned away and then returned to reveal it was Garrus, that was the best moment in my life (for some reason my bf has difficulty comprehending that!) And when I discovered he was an LI...

But then I made a second playthrough, on my first playthrough, I talked to all my squaddies, but Thane interested me the most, he has an amazing character, and I declined his romance in favour of Garrus. So I tried him out and loved it! His romance dialogue and scene is so brilliantly done! His quiet confidence and lethality is so sexy, and his character has so much depth. But I just love Garrus' character more. I guess it's because he has been hurt deeply, but he has been able to rise above it, and I really admire that in a person. I love that Shepard gives him some peace and happiness after all he's been through.

Thane's trailer doesn't do him as much justice as the game. I wasn't so keen on the way Bioware did Thane's and Mordin's trailer, with them speaking about themselves as if they were in an interview, it just seemed very... odd...

But I am here! So let the drellicking commence! :D

Sorry guys, ten hour shifts limit BSN-ing :( Damn real life! Hehe. I'd be on here all day if I had Bernard's watch :D

That picture is adorable! Thane as a baby, bless him. I know have a strong desire to go to a big park place and go on the bumper cars! I may be an adult, but at heart I am still a kid, and always will be! I wonder what drell are like as babies? I wonder what female drell look like... Thanks abnocte, you have earned yourself another geeky guffaw from myself :)

OMG, that is such a cute baby Thane!

I really need to check out these trailers better. I was just staring at Thane for his, and never made it to any others. I'm assuming they're on utube?

Sorry fiery, I think we posted at the same time! I wasn't ignoring the question :)
Thane has lost his true love, he admits that Irikah was his 'siha' and he says that few people are priveledged enough to have one 'siha.' So that suggests they were in true love. He also admits that those responsible for Irikah's death were the only victims that he had ever lingered on when he killed them. And coming from our sexily calm assassin, that speaks volumes.
As for Garrus, he hasn't really had anyone there for him. He never speaks about his sister or mum. We only know about them through his dossier, this may be just because it would be out of character for him to go complaining to Shepard of all his woes, or because he wasn't particularly close with them. He never visited them, never talked about them or even referred to him. It's obvious that he isn't close to his father. Garrus has never had a 'serious' relationship with anyone. Except for Shepard, he has no one really. C-sec was frustrating, his father would hate it if he became a spectre, and being a vigilante ended in catastrophe.
So, to sum up my opinion in the words of some famous dude: 'It is better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all.'

Depends how often Shep has accidentally shot them in the ass when they wandered DIRECTLY INTO HER LINE OF FIRE.  *ahem*  Garrus...<_<

Was I the only one who liked Thane's cinematic trailer?  I thought it was badass.  Not entirely representative of the character, of course, but you can only show so much in a 50 second clip, and I can't fault BioWare for choosing to show the badass.

Oh God, it's a hurt-off.

Oh God, it hurts so good!

...*cough*

I think all of the Normandy crew has been hurt in some way or another. Miranda and Jacob have dad issues, Garrus was betrayed, Thane has no friends, Jack was tortured as a child, Mordin reaffirmed the genophage, etc. Joker was grounded, his commander and friend was killed. Shepard survived death only to find everyone s(he) knew were gone or changed.

Between Garrus and Thane, Garrus. He's more... passionate about his issues than Thane. He's bent on revenge and knows exactly what he thinks is justice and injustice. Thane accepts that all that's happened to him and while he strives to make the galaxy brighter before he dies, he doesn't pursue it as destructively as Garrus.

Ah, I thought that was just me, apparently not. LOL

Nope, you're not alone. I did like it a lot. But thinking back on it, he does seem to be two different people. Maybe it's a battle sleep thing. I do prefer the full trailer though, even though he has to share it with maleshep and Grunt.

No worries, I knew you would respond. :)

I guess I understand where you're coming from. In my opinion, however, I think someone who has lost his true love, his son, is terminally ill and has been lonely for the past ten years must have suffered a great deal more than someone who doesn't relate to his family and finds himself to be an overall unpleasant situation.

Me. Though the trailer had been misleading.

Also, when I'm re-whatching the trailer I do also imagine my Shep in the scope of his rifle and two enemies behind her. He snipes them. (you know what part of the trailer I'm talking about)

If we're doing a hurt-off, Shep wins.  Unless we're talking Spacer-War Hero Shep, Shep either had a craptastic childhood or something traumatic during his/her career.  Or both.  Then got brain-raped by a Prothean beacon--twice--and played bumper cars with a dreadnought.  Then died.  Then got brought back by terrorists with a whole lot of strings attached, hung out to dry by the Alliance and the Council, screwed over on Horizon, and ran through hell and back in ME2 only to find a huge fleet of Reapers on the way.  :(

Now, this is a hard one you put on the table!

Thane lost the woman that he loved, the woman that showed him a world outside his work.
When Thane said this I though that upon meeting her, Thane world was turned upside-down. He didn't change his profession in the end, but he really was awakened to a world that wasn't "allowed" before.

Garrus on the other hand, lost all his squad, he feels responsible for their deaths. Maybe because he feels he dragged them to his cause. If he hadn't started a war against the mercs they would be alive?
Losing people that depends on you, trust you is hard indeed.
But unlike Thane, Garrus choose it, he wanted to fight the bad guys, he choose that life knowing there are other things in the world.

So, in my opinion, Thane suffering is on a more depper emotional level.
That doesn't mean that Garrus hasn't been hurt so bad, since that also depends on their personalities and the way they deal with loss.

So...it's a tie in my book. I just can't choose one over the other!

Yeah, Garrus and Thane have both reacted to their pain in such different ways. Garrus is bent on revenge, and strives for justice. He is more passionate about it as Raven said. But Thane is more introvert in his reaction to his suffering, he has his 'battle sleep.' He is dead to the world, and only reawakened when he is fully seduced by Shepard. Because they reacted so differently to their pain, it is difficult to compare who suffered the most.

Don't forget that if Sole survivor, the ones that resurrected you are the ones that got your squad killed by Threser Maws!!

I couldn't believe this was never brought up during the game!! Only to have Vela Tasir ( spelling? )  throw that in my face during LOTS!!! I even felt nauseous

Yeah, that hurt when Vasir threw it at my Shep.  She had by then screwed over Cerberus every way she could and told TIM he could lick a toilet as far as she cared, but that was definitely hitting below the belt.  Though really, even Sole Survivor Shep has to realize that it's either working with Cerberus and taking advantage of their resources or risking the galaxy's destruction.

Thanks!

I created her with the only purpose to have a no romanced Shepard, romance Garrus... and I so utterly failed.... I am replaying her now, this time I won't speak to Thane at all!!

Sad that since I imported her from ME1 I don't have a facecode! :(

I usually play as a sole survivor/colonist. So I hated that Cerberus were the ones that caused Akuze, and then Miranda and Jacob started asking Shepard about it!?! I believe there is a comic strip about it that made me laugh my pants off!!!

*Steers an imaginary wheel to bring the topic back onto Thane*

And we need to continue the pain competition between Garrus and Thane for a few more pages to make fiery happy :D

I feel the same... it is just so hard to say.  Thane: loss of his love and the one who awakened him, his perceived failure at being a father, etc... versus Garrus: being estranged from family, loss of his only real friend (shep), losing his team on omega and feeling like he failed them, etc.

I think maybe I might say that Thane has come to terms with his pain more... so maybe Garrus is hurting more - at the present time.  I think Thane probably hurt the most of the two of them - but at the time when he was hunting down those who killed his wife.  But that is all just speculation on my part... me filling in how I see his character behaving.  Thane talks about the things that hurt him, whereas Garrus does not.  Of course, the fact that Garroo doesn't talk about these things makes it hard to gauge how they affect him.  It does seem like it is painful for him, from his SB dossier.  But honestly, I think it is just too difficult to compare the different things these two have gone through.

Aww! With the Normandy and a ¿sniper rifle? How cute

I totally agree with you Tentura.
Garrus lost his squad recently while Thane has had 10 years to come to terms with things.

You just can't compare.

This.

I had a spacer / sole survivor Shep. So thankfully her mother was still on her side, or so it seems. Omg...

Hannah Shepard for Squadmate in ME3!

Shepard: Mom, I want you to meet Thane. My other half.
Hannah Shepard: YOU ARE DOING US PROUD.
Thane: That is... intriguing.
