It's hard to tell on the forum because it seemed until recently virtually all of the vocal thane fans on BSN hung out in the neck snap group.

I find NSAS a bit hard to navigate, ie not goto pages, just "next page", etc.

I get the impression that Thane is relatively popular. Somewhere in the middle, if not upper middle. Many polls don't really show each character's individual popularity, but instead, focus on 'favorite love interest.' I think even if people don't always romance Thane, he is still a fav of many folks. There was a more expansive poll a while back where people rated each crew member on a 1-10 scale, but I can't seem to find it. That might be a good indicator of how people feel about him in general.
