A lot of Renegade lines aren't so much being an a-hole as simply being sarcastic.

Wow, my first post in the Thane thread and it's really long. *waves to Tasha and Sable*

I was just wondering if your Shepards were more paragon or renegade. Which one do you think fits better with Thane? I can never bring myself to be completely renegade no matter how hard I try.

I've been thinking about what kind of Shepard would work best with Thane a lot lately. I have a FemShep planned out who I thought would romance him, but I realized that her opinions and philosophy would clash too much with his. His line at the Collector base, where he talks about not becoming what they hate, was probably when I first noticed that they're just too different. She doesn't hate Cerberus (in fact, she likes working with them), and thinks that saving the base is a good idea. Obviously, she's mostly Renegade.

The reason why I originally chose that FemShep for his romance is because she likes assassins, she's also a biotic, she finds him attractive (she doesn't consider him too "alien" for her), and she's one of my few FemSheps who would be able to deal with starting a romance with a guy who she knows will probably die long before her, and also had a wife who died. She needs a guy whose opinions are more in line with hers though, and I don't think that completely depends on Paragon or Renegade. It's more about how you play the character.

The new FemShep I'm planning just for him is a Paragade though.

I actually like most of the Renegade options more than the Paragon, but after I used the Renegade interrupt on Mouse without knowing what would happen, I reloaded immediately. It just seemed completely uncalled for, and was even worse when I saw how well the Paragon choice turned out. That must be the only Renegade interrupt I didn't like. The interrupts during the interrogation were great though. Playing the bad cop was fun. Watching Thane play the bad cop was fun too.

HI!  Word to the wise, beware raven--she likes to try and break my brain :P  Though you spend more time in Clan V than I do, so you might be immune.  The kink meme is comparatively tame to some of the stuff that turns up there ;)

I always felt like Thane's romance is kinda wonky alignment wise.  Pure Paragon is too law-abiding, Pure Renegade is too ruthless.  Some mixture of the two makes a lot more sense.  Part of me almost thinks Renegon might be best--someone hot-headed and passionate, yet fundamentally good-hearted, who's able to jolt Thane out of his moodier moments.  The thought makes me giggle.

Thane: My body killed those people.  My soul did not. *flashback sound effects start*
FemShep:  Christ on a ******.  Get your damn body over here to me before I punch something!

:D

Well, I never look at those threads in Clan V. xD

The FemShep I'm planning out does fit that description, actually - passionate and good at heart. She can be a little hot-headed at times, mainly when the Renegade part of "Paragade" kicks in. My other FemShep was basically the opposite - very calm and ruthless, couldn't care less about doing the right thing most of the time, and solves the majority of her problems with logic alone. The belief of soul being separate from body bothers her though. If his body does it, the she says he did it, regardless of beliefs about the soul. Not that she thinks of killing people as a bad thing. Her body count could easily compete with his.

That dialogue you came up with is hilarious though. xD His flashbacks (and the dramatic camera angles) are definitely interesting.

Thane's morality bothered my FemShep too, to the point where they didn't even get along.  Pity--I wish they could have.  His FemShep exists, I swear, but I'm currently having too much fun with awful **** ManShep.

I wish you had a Renegade interrupt with Thane during some of his flashbacks like the Paragon interrupt with Garrus.  Just an opportunity to snap him out of it, shake him up a little.  It'd be WIN.

Thane: *having a flashback*
FemShep:  *interrupt* Hey.  You there in the fine, zipperific jacket.  Pretty lady in front of you.  Might even consider taking her shirt off if you ask!
Thane: ...wait--what?  Siha, did I just hear you say--
FemShep:  Too late, bucko.  You snooze, you lose.
Thane: :(
FemShep:

Poor Thane. It took me a little while to get use to those flashbacks.

*Waves back* hey Kim! I'm only occassionally on the Garrus thread now because I need more hours in a day for long posts :( Thane is like Garrus in this though, I don't think he would mind if you were upmost paragon or total renegade. Samara is the same. Paragade is the best way to play, you get to take down the baddies with some great lines, but you can also be nice to your crewmates! Also, it means you can solve both the crew arguments.
Assassins you say? Dare I ask Kim, Alistair or Zevran? We have very mixed views on this thread, but I am a Zev girl!

Most of my FemSheps are paragons, I guess. I do love shoving Blue Suns out of windows though. I can never resist that interrupt. Lots of good suggestions though and I may have to try them. I'll just save right before the convo.
^Tasha...yay! I love Zev too.

^Gnas...I feel your pain. It's my last day at work for three weeks. I'm expecting all hell to break loose before I leave today.

^Sable...I agree. They should have solpsism interrupts like yours! Too funny!

^Kim...Hi! Welcome to the Drellickers support group. Yes, I believe Raven is our wild child, but don't let the others fool you. All the others are great with the shocks!
I'm just here to have sensible discussions about Thane. Posted Image Yeah. Right.

I think that either a full paragon or renegade would clash too much with Thane.
I agree that he seems more of a paragade, or neutral since he has such special view on his job.

I romanced Thane with my renegon Shepard. She is earthborn, and her gang days show quite often! but she really cares about her crew and squadmates. In the orphanage she learned how those who share your path through life can easily become "family". Too bad she learned it the hard way... poor her, she was a troubled teenager!!!

Actually, my Shep was kind of annoyed ( if not directly pissed off ) when Thane said that he had abandoned his son... luckily for Thane he showed how he cared about him and wanted to help him...or else....

Yeah, I agree--he seems more of a Paragade, though his weird morals make him hard to classify.  Garrus is more of a Renegon.  That being said, I think the reason why Thane's romance might be more of a niche thing lies in the greater possibility of clashing with the character.  Jacob's charmingly inoffensive, and Garrus is relatively one-size-fits-all.

Obviously everyone has their own interpretation of their Sheps, but just from the lines in-game, pure Paragon is highly law-abiding and probably too restrictive for an assassin to fit in nicely.  And pure Renegade is incredibly callous--I think even with his training, Thane would find a pure Renegade Shep to be too insensitive and cruel.

Damn you real life for making me miss all this!

@Kim - Welcome to Thaneland... the more the merrier!

I think of my Thane-lovin' FemSheps as varying forms of Paragades. My Renegon is a Garroo girl.
I agree with Fiery... no matter how 'good' you are, there are some interrupts that are irresistible... just to name a few favs:
(1) "how 'bout goodbye?" (6:21 in Fiery's vid)
(2) Headbutting Worf (6:30)
(3) making that salarian drop his little jaw to the floor in Miri's mission (3:05)

I agree. For me, Paragade works best with Thane's philosophy.

Paragons aren't always restricted as law-abiders though. My Shep was a paragon but never put those limitations on herself. She fully embraced her role as a Spectre and followed a personal oath to protect all races of the galaxy. Her mission to defend humanity was an extension of that. She just wasn't a dirty Spectre like the others. She was willing to sacrifice the one for the many but at the same time, she'd rather be the sacrifice, so as to spare everyone else. That said, she still considers herself above the law.

I think Para-Spectre mends well with Thane's morality. But again, it has less to do with your general alignment and largely to do with your Shep's own personality and moral compass.

I'd add "you're working too hard" on Garrus's mission.  And the 5 minute Renegade interrupt prompt of doom on the mouthy Weyrlock clan krogan.  Seriously, I feel like the game was goading me.

Basically, interrupts are awesome.  I tend to take almost all of them.

In my last playthrough I decided not to take that interrupt, and never again I would do that! For god sake! he sure likes to listen to himself!!

The only "funny" part is Mordin's face when the krogan says that about "eating salarian eggs as a delicacy". After that my Shepard reflected on some things.

Shepard: What's for lunch today?
Gardner: scrambled eggs
Shepard:
Gardner: everything ok, commander?

@Sable & Fiery: OMG, how did I forget "You're working too hard."  That one is great - he totally had it coming.  And the way Shep just walks away like a total badass... niiiice.  I will admit it is difficult to resist flaming thay Weyrlock guy... but I try to avoid that one unless I am going more Renegade.  Abnocte, you're right - Mordin's little gulp is priceless if you let him keep talking.
