Welcome!  Yay for people de-lurking.  I actually went back to create a romance-free ME1 playthrough just for Thane.  That is my main play through.  I do have a playthrough from before where I 'cheated' on Kaidan (ugh, I hate that term) with Thane, but I don't know if I'll ever import it into ME3.  The only 'cheater' import I may pull into ME3 is my Kaidan-->Garroo run.  I think that may lead to some interesting conflicts.  But mostly, I avoid that sort of stuff.

Welcome to you, also!!  I dunno... I do dislike the whole 'uncurable illness' thing.  Especially now that they keep throwing things out there like the lung medi-gel stuff menitoned in the Cerberus Network news a while back.  I guess it doesn't matter how advanced human medicine is in the ME universe, since he's drell.  Maybe their anatomies are different enough that they can't utilize similar techniques.  Also, some of the most advanced treatment is very expensive - à la Shepard's Cerberus revival.  So I guess that sort of thing is out-of-reach for most.  But still...it is kind of lame.

I say: It's time for a CURE DLC!!

First of all, ME is less than 200 years in the future.  Second of all, it's quite possible that artificial lungs might be viable for the average citizen, but not for soldiers, assassins, or other physically grueling professions like Thane's.  Finally, I don't think Thane's made any real effort to slow the progress of his Kepral's.  Unless romanced, as of ME2 he seems to have pretty much resigned himself to death.  Which makes my ManShep want to beat him upside the head with a spatula out of frustration.

To answer your question I haven't cheated on anyone, but I was thinking about doing one just to see what happens. The Shepards that I romanced Thane with are all single, and so is the one I did for Garrus. I went back and made single Shepards just for them. I have just one playthrough with a loyal Shepard for Kaidan. The love triangle could add some drama as long as it's not like some soap opera. Even though I thought about it I probably won't do it. I probably will just watch it on Youtube or something to see what happens.

Friendship. How lovely and vital yet so.. difficult at times. Its one of the greatest things in this world. It makes you begin to think about how this is reflected in ME and ME2. The emotional connection, the character interactions.

I wonder, would you consider Thane and Shepard friends or just lovers? I never thought about it.

I guess they are more lovers, but I consider them friends too. You do have some nice conversations with him before you get into the romance, and he does say you are the only friend he has made in ten years.

OMG!!  I have loved you for so long for all your stuff on DA!  Oh, and welcome... that too!  We aren't too overwhelming here, I promise.  Okay, so we can get a wee bit crazy... but it's just the drell-induced hallucinations - I'm sure you can understand that.

HEY! I've watched you on DA for quite some time now (screen name optycalillusion http://optycalillusion.deviantart.com/ )! Nice to see you here. Funny that a thread on saving Thane (and your linked image, OMG! love) is the first thing that makes me post on here after forever lurking.

Everyone else, HI! I'm currently on my bajillionth playthrough of ME2 and I simply cannot get enough Thane (and Garrus, of course.) Though I do love Garrus, too, I feel closer to Thane. I lurvs him, and I'm going to be CRUSHED if he isn't cured in ME3.

Not to sound too fangirlish, but I have a save before every romantic or squishy convresation with Thane <3 so I can play them again and again. I'd say I'm ashamed, but I'm NOT!

Kepral's Syndrome is not 'un-curable' as far as we know, a cure just hasn't been found yet.
There are options for drell to get lung transplants, and Thane is a viable transplant candidate, but he refused to be added to waiting list.
And synthetic lungs have yet to be figured out for drell. Different DNA has it's set backs.

Also, lung transplants won't cure him, as the disease spreads and affects other organs too. The new set of lungs would be overtaken eventually.
It would just give him a bit more time.

And yes, even in a universe with technology to bring back the dead won't suffice. Shepard was an exceptional case in what was considered a scientific breakthrough, so the procedure to bring him / her back to life was pretty extreme and cost an exorbitant amount of money.

If Thane dies, he's sadly staying that way. :>

Let us pray, dear sihas and Thane-bros, that he does not.

Thane will definitely get his own FemShep. Only the squadmates I don't care for are planned to be involved with a cheating Shepard so far.

I support a cure for Thane, or at least a way to extend his life, but... not in the form of DLC. D: I never dowload anything, and that means Thane would die. Don't want that. It should either be in ME3, mentioned in the epilogue, or something like that.

I save right before scenes with my favorite characters too. I think a lot of us do, at least in the Garrus thread.

I don't like love triangles, but I never considered the Kaidan playthrough as 'cheating' after horizon. He made it pretty clear he didn't want to be with my femshep, and his email was infuriatingly indecisive. If I could have sent him an email back telling him he is completely finished, then I would have done.
An evil part of me is looking forward to the confrontation anyway .
Yay!! I'm a big Garrus fan too!  (This is my Garrus face by the way!) And assassins! Ah so many assassins... This thread is slightly insane all those who have dared to tread here, but very active. I think it was only a week ago where we were on page 300, and now look how much it has shot up!
As for Thane being cured, his dossier explains that he refused to be added to the transplant list even though he is a viable candidate. I don't know if this is because he has resigned himself to death, or due to religious reasons?
However, I am sure that being a LI will influence his fate in ME3. I am annoyed when people are speculating on what will happen to the ME2 squad in ME3, and they always seem to throw Thane away and say 'Thane will die.' And they always say Samara will go too, but I'm not sure why...

In Samara's case, it's probably because her code only required her to stay with Shepard for the suicide mission (not to mention, she'd want to kill some people's Shepards, many of mine included). I think it's strange when people say Thane will die before ME3 though. I don't remember it being said that Thane's disease will kill him off that quickly, and ME3 is likely to start very soon after ME2. All of the squadmates should be able to survive the last game if Shepard makes the right choices.

My Shepard romanced Kaidan in the first game, and after Horizon she decided to quit both drinking and Kaidan. Thane just happened to be there in all his smexy glory  

I also think is more insteresting from a roleplaying prespective to have a Shepard that had a previous relationship going on in ME1.
I'm looking forward to how Bioware will handle this .
And no, I don't consider it cheating! that email wasn't enough for my Shepard!

Re Kepral's syndrome, it's only the drell that are affected right?  Don't know if anyone's pointed this out (it's tough going thru hundreds of pages) but I think no one's rushing to find the cure because it only affects a very, very small percentage of the galactic population and therefore is not a priority; Heck since drell are hardly seen outside Kahje and no Drell of prominent stature exists in the Citadel they're really not considered a race of galactic importance.  Of course the hanar are finding the cure but I doubt anyone else is.    

Edit: Aaaaand of course what's being discussed was the artificial lungs and not the cure for Kepral's. Duh, Louvette. Way to go.
