Thane is an option...

Fangirl here.
I won't accept the words option and Thane in the same sentence unless the word clothes is in there!

Never crossed my mind not to recruit everyone, but I guess there's people that did that and may import such save into ME3.
Will we be able to recruit them in ME3? after all you still have the dossiers.... or it will be the same as if they died in the SM?

This algo makes me think how they will handle the romances, if I import a Shepard with no romance will I be able to start a romance with a ME, ME2 LI? if so, people with a romance will get cut short on dialog?
I mean, they will have to write both options for each possible LI... May be they will add some new LI options, in LotS you couldn't start a romance with Liara afterall... :?

Now this makes me worry a little. I no you don't have to recruit Thane, but I can't not recruit him. I recruit everyone.

I really don't want any new LI's we have enough as it is. I just want them to work on the ones that they have.

Aaw you guys! Why have you friendzoned Garrus! But I guess he has pretty strong competition... Hey, maybe I'm just pretty damn adventurous when it comes to romancing the alien options (I'm not a xenophile, the human LI's just aren't that great...)
Lydlyd, I totally agree, that is a brilliant quote to be made into a banner! Gnas is really good at banners, she did the drellicking one (I don't use it now after someone commented on it saying it was really dirty, but I really loved it!) I mean we are on about Thane, lol!

So, just to sate my curiousity before I go to work, why do people prefer Thane as a romance option to Garrus?
Discuss, while I go and sell some books... Hehe ;)

I like Garrus. I think he's great. I take him and Thane with me all the time. I love having them both with me.I just never saw him as more than a friend. I didn't plan on romancing him at all in ME2, but I changed my mind after reading what some people thought about it. I decided to give it a try, and enjoyed it. I may even do it again. I just hope he has more dialog in ME3. I really wanted to talk to him more.

Thane just won my Shepards heart. He is very hard to resist. I just can't seem to stay out of life support. If I romance Garrus again I'm going to have to stay away from Thane. When I romanced Garrus the first time I did his romance before Thane so it wasn't to difficult. We will see what happens when I try to romance Garrus again.

I was just curious. Does your Shepard have any friends? If so who are they?

I agree that they should focus on developing the existing relationships.

But LIs are a trademark for Bioware, and I read that they want to make ME3 as standalone as possible, meaning that a person that plays ME3 without playing the other two ( I'm sure there will be more than one *faceplam in advance* ) should be getting his share of sexy time...that leads me to believe that there will be new squadmates and LI.....

I understand that. They may have some new LI's. I don't know why anyone would play the third game without at least having played the second. You would also only have one game to get to know them. That's not very much, but if that's what they want to do. I just hope it doesn't mean less time for Thane or any other LI.

Garrus and Tali!! who else!

She didn't connect with Liara that much in ME1. Not much to talk about with a shy archealogist when you are a blunt marine with a gang background.
She prefers the "new" Liara better, and even though working for Cerberus and the whole resurrection thing bothers her, Liara's unwavering loyalty totally got her :D

The squaddies I would consider friends of my Shep are Garrus, Tali, Joker, and Chakwas. Mainly because they have known her the longest. I would also consider Mordin and Samara as close just because of their interactions with my Shep during the mission. I also see Thane more as a lover than a friend although friendship is a part of the relationship.

Mine are Garrus, Tali and Kasumi. I didn't really care for the ME1 Liara either. I really like the new Liara. She is also a good friend to my Shepards.

Liara would also have to be considered a friend for all that she did to help Shepard. Which for me, I hate to admit, I don't really care for Liara.

Liare isn't my favorite character, but I do prefer the LotSB Liara to the ME1 Liara.

For my mainshep, I would say that her best friends are Thane, Jack and Tali. Garrus is her lover of course. Thane is this deadly sniper who she finds very... intriguing to use his words.

She had a similar background to Jack because she was on Akuze, Cerberus basically tortured her and turned her life into hell too. Of course, she would never say that to Jack, because that might belittle Jack's situation, but she really empathises with the crazy biotic.

Tali is like a little sister who she feels obligated to protect. They get along well and can talk really easily to each other, having known each other for a while. Shepard is also really proud of how Tali has developed in ME2 (and the same with Garrus.) Wrex is a bro too. Nuff said.

And, because you all seem to view Garrus as a friend, and you little minx's can't get your hands off Thane ;) (you know who you are!!) Then I shall tell you why I prefer Garrus, because I understand you may find it baffling. Hehe.

Garrus has a relationship development from ME1-ME2. They are now equals. They have this massive trust in each other, and they know that the other has their back no matter what. This is something unique to the relationship between Garrus and Shepard. They have both been to hell and back and have learned from it. And one of the best things about Garrus is how he deals with the news that Shepard is working with Cerberus. Unlike the virmire survivor, he trusts Shepard that much that Cerberus doesn't matter. Even Tali doesn't like it. But Garrus sees it as an opportunity to watch Shepard's back even more closely.

Also, during Garrus' loyalty mission, if you pick the paragon path with Sidonis, Shepard confidently tells him, 'I am the only thing standing between you and a hole in head.' She is totally confident that Garrus wouldn't risk a shot with her there, even for the sake of avenging the deaths of his team. And Garrus is a pretty vengeful guy.

His romance reveals a whole different side to our snipering turian cop, he has tenderness, and a bit of vulnerability. It's also a relationship that isn't shallow (like Jacob's.) They are both willing to risk a lot just by being together. There are cultural differences as well as physical differences. Their personalities are similar, and they complement each other in the romance option. If Garrus opens his feelings a little, Shepard easily returns it, and vice versa. If Garrus says something awkward, Shepard just laughs it off. They fit so well together. But the main thing for me, is the fact that Garrus has been through so much, and he is still able to make jokes, move on, become stronger and learn from the experience.

So there you have it my fellow drellickers. The mtstery has been revealed :)

I don't find it baffling Tasha. We like who we like. I loved your reason for why you like Garrus more. Being seen as a friend isn't that bad. I think that is one of the reasons Garrus is so popular. A lot of people consider him their Shepards best friend. Him being an LI is a bounus.

@Tasha

I totally agree with you!

I feel that the companionship/trust between Shepard and Garrus is stronger that with any of the other squadies or crew ( or at least better portrayed ). With such strong bond as a base I fail to see how things wouldn't develop into something more.

I am so looking forward to how Bioware will develop him in ME3!

Truth to be told I will play my Thane-Shep first. If things are going bad for Thane in ME3 I want to feel the full blow with my Shep.
But second will be Garrus!

And may be I will do a faithful to Kaidan playthrough....someday....

And Tasha is impossible to take our hands off Thane when you are hallucinating and have a zipper to play with  ;)

Hehe, and as Raven will tell you: Dat bulge! ;)

And yeah, he is the best friend for most people. Some of his lines are just bro-tastic

'The collectors killed you once and all it did was p*** you off. I can't imagine what will stop you this time.'

Him being an LI was so great for me. He is great. Thane is fantastic too, but Garrus suits my personality more?

A loyal Kaidan playthrough? Nah I won't bother, I'll just youtube it, hehe! I do wonder who more people romanced though, Thane, Garrus or Liara? (I don't think Jacob or Kelly are in there...) Bioware will prob have the results. I suspect it will be Thane because those who didn't play ME1 first wouldn't have warmed to Garrus. Also, turians aren't a humanoid alien and drell are, so the less extreme ones probably went for Thane or Liara. But there are a lot of Garrus fans, the fanfiction proves that.

I wonder which romance option was more popular overall...

Thane is the only one I'm really worried about.

I don't worry about Garrus. I know he will be fine in ME3. He just needs more dialog. That was one thing that disappointed me. I look forward to see what happens with his characer and with his and Shepards relationship.

I did manage to finish my one Kaidan playthrough, but it wasn't easy.

zip up,zip down, zip up, zip down.. oh heck just zip down. Steal jacket:) and touch, squeel!

Guilty as charged Tasha, hehe. Do agree with the level of trust though, she knows he would never shoot her, even if he is in a emotional place at that moment.

Oh hope things dont go badly for Thane in ME3, my shep will be crying on Garrus shoulder and cursing Bioware if that happens.

In LotSB I had a full understanding with Liara. She was rescued Feron and revenge. I wanted to get the dossier Thane (hoping for a hint of medicine) and to punish the Shadow Broker for defiance and threats in ME1. Yes, I paragad with a good memory. Together, we've got a funny company to rescue drells.^_^

Liara has changed dramatically in ME2 and grew. It is no longer the naive child, and I'm a little worried for her. Will she be able to cope with the power derived from the Shadow Broker? Would it be for her is an analogue One Ring (LOTR)?

I am also kind of worried about Liara, but I think that her development as a character shows how a videogame is as valid as any other traditional media to tell a story.
I mean, a great story needs character development, people change and react to the things that happen to them and around them so they can deal with whats going on, and Liara just show that.

A quiet girl interested in Prothean history with little social ability meets Shepard and her world is turned upside down. She has to adapt to what is going on to keep going forward...I think there's good writing there, could be better of course, but it is still a videogame...

I hope all the other characters get such wonderful treatment, actually I'm looking forward to see what they do with Kaidan.... I kind of see potential there...

On other note they uploaded the interviews to ME voice actors. I leave the link, some answers are priceless... XD

I LOVE that interview abnocte! Read it not too long ago and yay, part two is up!  Thanks!
Liara did say that her work with Shep will keep her honest, but if the galaxy survives the Reapers and Shep's no longer watching her... WELL, I'd get worried about her too.
Believe it or not I did have a Shep who stayed faithful to Kaidan but soon after finishing that one I went back and reloaded my other Shep who romanced Thane.  Actually I'm playing a manShep now (and I still can't decide who to romance lol) and already I miss Thane calling me Siha.
I want to keep my bases covered so for my next playthru I'm going to make a femShep who has no LI in ME1 & ME2.  You know, just in case a sexy thing is introduced in ME3:D Must... resist... Thane...
Hehe thanks for posting my image FieryPhoenix7 :wub:Glad you guys like it.  I made it B&W because I felt colour was just a distraction; I just wanted to focus on the intimacy of those two. But anyhoo if you guys haven't seen this yet and are interested here's Thane in all his green glory, Fornax edition ;) (Click to see full image.  Warning: NSFW)

Friends for my Shep: Garrus (her best friend as well as her romance), Tali, Wrex, Chakwas, Miranda, and Liara. Samara and Mordin she sees more as "mentor" figures, and she takes a mentoring attitude toward most of the rest of her crew. I really loved what they did with Liara, and I wish you could romance her in ME2 instead of having to start the romance in ME2. If you could, I probably would have romanced her with ManShep instead of Miranda.

As for LIs and squaddies, to be entirely honest, as much as I love the BioWare romances, I think they shine the most with platonic friendships rather than romances. My favorite character interactions and dynamics in DA:O and ME2 were with Mordin, Shale, Sten, Samara, and Legion, none of whom are romanceable.

I romaned Liara in the first game with my MShep. I am doing that playthrough now in ME2. I am not really worried about her. As long as she has Shepard she should be fine. That is a lot of power for one person and it could easily go to her head. That could be one of the things that happens to her in ME3. I'm also thinking that with all that power and knowledge of everything in the galaxy that she might be able to find something that can help Thane.

@lydlyd

Love that render of Thane.

My Shepard's best friends (i.e. squadmates) are Wrex, Garrus, Tali, Liara and Kasumi. Thane is her current lover, after Kaidan. She likes it this way. :wizard:

I did a little more planning for my ThaneShep, so I can answer the questions with the rest of you guys now.

Her best friends would definitely be Garrus and Tali. If I had the DLC, Kasumi would be included there, and Zaeed would be like an awesome, crazy uncle (she's an Earthborn). Wrex reminds her of her old friends, so of course they'd get along. I have vague ideas for the rest, but they're not final. She does think of Thane as a friend and comrade too, but the romantic side of their relationship is the stronger one. Friends first, I guess. Long enough to know him and trust him before the romantic feelings started. (This might be the first Shepard I created who thinks "friends first" is important.)

And they have a song now. Because I was listening to "Never Gonna Be Alone" by Nickelback and immediately thought of Thane. When that happens, it becomes their song, no questions asked. xD
