I did a little more planning for my ThaneShep, so I can answer the questions with the rest of you guys now.

Her best friends would definitely be Garrus and Tali. If I had the DLC, Kasumi would be included there, and Zaeed would be like an awesome, crazy uncle (she's an Earthborn). Wrex reminds her of her old friends, so of course they'd get along. I have vague ideas for the rest, but they're not final. She does think of Thane as a friend and comrade too, but the romantic side of their relationship is the stronger one. Friends first, I guess. Long enough to know him and trust him before the romantic feelings started. (This might be the first Shepard I created who thinks "friends first" is important.)

And they have a song now. Because I was listening to "Never Gonna Be Alone" by Nickelback and immediately thought of Thane. When that happens, it becomes their song, no questions asked. xD

Sounds like a nice story you have planned out for your Shepard who is romancing Thane.Posted Image

Thanks. :) I figured the Earthborn background worked really well for her character - the fact that starting a romance with a guy who could die before long doesn't bother her because she's used to the "we could die tomorrow, live for today" mindset, and the reason why she would try that much harder to reunite Thane with his son and stop him from going down a bad path. She'll also consider saving the base, but change her mind in the end because of what Thane said. Thane helps her make those tough moral choices, when she's gotten used to achieving a goal through questionable methods when there seems to be no other way, and that works well because it's something she keeps trying to change.

Yeah, I put a lot of thought into these things... still don't know about her service history or class though. But she's a Paragade.

@Kim

It sounds great. I always love reading the background stories people come up with for their Shepards.

Me too. It's great that Shepard can be played in so many different ways.

I don't remember if I already asked this, but how do everyone's Shepards feel about Thane's beliefs about the separation of body and soul? Was it a problem, or did it not bother them at all?  For me, that's the thing that made him difficult to pair with any of the FemSheps I already had planned because it required a special kind of Shepard to understand (and possibly agree with, to some extent) those beliefs, rather than the usual "he's a dying man" issue. The FemShep I'm planning out specifically for him feels that sometimes she just has to harden her heart and soul to do what needs to be done - she acknowledges the fact that she's still the one who did it, but she can see how Thane's beliefs would be comforting, even though she can't share them herself. She probably wishes she could believe it.

Once again, I watched video (time 0:30)

And noticed a certain similarity. (This "система Кадочникова" Systema Kadochnikov.)

I was wondering about the similarity of seeing Thane's "cat's movements mechanics" and speed. Of course, the movement of professionals in general are not noticeable, but it is not cinematic. Of course, this is mere coincidence but still..

What?! I go on the forum and the Thane thread is on page 2??!!! Where are the posts?? Hehe.

ONE SLEEP UNTIL CHRISTMAS!! I am soo excited! You think Bioware will give us a christmas announcement that Thane is going to be a squadmate in ME3? Hehe. Yeah as soneone mentioned earlier, I am not too worried about Garrus (and Tali) not being squadmates in ME3. I am pretty certain they will be, and if not, then there shall be flames, and the end of the world...

The Mayans predicted the end of the world in 2012, because they knew if Bioware didn't make Thane and Garrus squadmates in ME3, then that is what will happen!

Muhahahaha! Ok, so I am a bit hyper cuz of christmas! Hehe!

Actually, the whole reason ME3 is going to be released in 2011 is because humanity will be eradicated by the end of 2012. I know this from experience; I was delivering pizza to BioWare's headquarters the other night and managed to peek over Casey Hudson's shoulders while he was reading what appeared to be a report. That's when I read the sad truth. :(

I don't know how this thread ended up on the second page. That would be a great christmas. Thane is still the only one that worries me.

I have only romanced him once so far. For her it was really a problem. While she didn't agree with it she also wasn't going to try and impose her beliefs onto him or try to change his mind about it. She also knows that because he isn't human his way of thinking is going to be different. I haven't come up with a story for the other Shepards I have planned for him.

There was actually a discussion on here that maybe the hanar taught him to think this way so he wouldn't feel guilty about the people he killed.

The hanar teaching him to think like that is actually a fairly plausible theory when you consider Thane was six in initial training and twelve when he first killed.  If you're killing people that when you're that young, without a moral framework that absolves you, you're gonna get pretty messed up.  It messed up Jack.  It certainly messed with my FemShep's attitudes on life and death.

The morals were the major sticking point for my FemShep and Thane--it's probably the primary reason they didn't get along. She doesn't give a damn about intentions, soul, moral character, none of that stuff matters.  The only thing that matters is that your actions produce the optimal benefit with minimal harm.  That kind of stringent utilitarianism requires that you think constantly about everything you do, weigh every action's benefits and drawbacks, and it sits very poorly with Thane's spiritual beliefs, which absolve him of the consequences of what he does.

The FemShep who I originally planned to pair with Thane isn't exactly the type to force her beliefs on anyone else (she doesn't have any religious beliefs), but for a romance, she wants someone similar to herself. That's where the problem came in. She fits much better with someone who's more ruthless, like her. Still, Thane might enjoy watching her interrogate Kelham, even though they're not a romantic pair. She's really good at that kind of thing. ThaneShep, not as much. She just might knock Kelham out. Not that watching her knock him out wouldn't be amusing too. xD

I like that theory about the hanar too.

Well, ME3 comes out before 2012, so when the stars are right and Great Cthuhlu begins his terrible rein from rising deep R'lyeh to devour our minds, at least I'll have finished playing my second favorite video game series :D All that matters, right?

Age taught my ThaneShep not to push her own beliefs onto others. So even if she may think that it is irresponsible and convenient, she also undertands that a person trained to be an assasin since age six and whose first kill was at twelve needs to deal with it in some way.

After all Thane was trained by the Hanar goverment, and all goverments have people doing some dirty job that needs to be done. And she understands that.

Too funny!
We're about to get Cthuhlu'd folks! :o I for one, can't wait. I always wanted to give insanity a try. Although insanity is a legal term and not a diagnosis but still, psychosis could prove to be rather interesting. Then again, I digress.

Oh did I mention? Its Christmas day! You know what that means right? Presents!!! Hope some of you gave the ultimate present, ME and ME2. Who wouldn't be happy to receive Thane this year?

Have a good day all. :D

Merry Christmas!

Merry christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To all of you! And here is to hoping that the Mayans were wrong in their practical joke of predicting the end of the world in 2012 because ME3 wasn't going to have Thane and Garrus as squaddies...

Merry Christmas! :o

It worries me that Hanars may take the side of the Reapers in ME3. They are uniquely expressed (Citadel news) that an attack on the Freedom Progress is punishment to humans from hanar's gods. They believe the Reapers or Сollectors their gods? Whose side to take Thane at this turn of events?

I got a Kindle and Lovecraft's collected works for Hanukkah.  Does it show? :P I gave Kirby's Epic Yarn.  Adorable soft yarn creatures are almost as good as sexy maliens, no?  Also, it'd be kind of awkward if I got Thane for my boyfriend :D

So, wishing you all a scary solstice!
