I think also to add to the conversation, some of us have a more personal reason to want Thane cured. I know it doesn't apply to everyone, but it certainly strikes a point with some of us.
Some of us fan girls are actually in a relationship with someone who has a terminal illness (moi for example. My boyfriend has Cystic Fibrosis, which strangely enough ALSO effects his lungs and breathing...go figure.) So it just somehow seems like a little punch in the gut to us. We just want to see it end happily for him, just like we hope for the best for our friends, family and partners. This is the future after all. There's gotta be someone out there who can cure a little bacterial infection!
Thane is my second favorite character after Garrus and I definitely want him to come back. However, he wasn't my first romance option because it hits too close to home for me. My husband died last July at age 35 of pancreatic cancer. We only had 3 months between diagnosis and the end. Can't say I enjoy the idea of going through the same thing in a game.

Thane does NOT want to die, not like this, not now. We should have the chance to find a way to cure him. I don't see Miranda, or Ash, or any other LI having this tragic end to their love story. Makes no sense, imo to have a happy ending with only a few LI's. ...please give me a somewhat happy ending!

Sorry to hear that. I can see how Thane as a romance option would upset you. I have hope though. I don't think they'd make a specail romanceable character for us just to kill him off in the next game. It just doesn't seem very economical for them.
I love Garrus too. In the first game I totally wanted a romance option with him. He's just so cute and dorky. But Thane is just everything that I love in a man (personality wise), and he's just so smexy to boot.

/support. Would be really cool if there could be a cure for Thane's sickness. He's probably my favorite new character in ME2.
Thanks for the support guys! It's nice to see other players love him as a BAMF and epic bromance buddy. You guys are especially awesome.

I took the bullet for him. I didn't want him to die (even though I was romaning with Zevran. I've got a thing for pervy assassins who try to kill me.
But yeah. The romance with Thane seems like such a tragic love story, I think it would be such a waste on the part of the writers. I mean, they have something that they can really work with. I think the whole "I have 8-12 months to live" thing is actually a red herring to get us all worried about him.
I have faith in the Devs that they'll pull something really cool out on us in the end.

EXACTLY THIS 1000000000%!!!
I honestly don't see them adding anymore characters in the next game. I think it'll more than likely be a combination of the ME1 and ME2 squad. If not all of them. Maybe one or two more characters, but they've already got so many....

That's just sad. I am very sorry to hear that.
Qn a lighter note though:
My first ME2 romance was with Garrus because it was available and I thought he was super cool in ME1. I should have been faithful with Kaidan before the romance with Thane also, but thats okay. Eventually I'll have a faithful play through.

ME TOOOO! I think they did this on purpose....
Actually, I had a dream the other night about ME3. (I know....totally nerdy, right?) I found Kaiden and he knew I was cheating on him, and he knew it was a Drell. He got all scary and possesive and started following me around, trying to see if Thane would come up to me. I told him that I wasn't cheating on him and that I still love him and he punched me.
I was just like, "Dude! You need to take a chill pill!"
Strange and random, I know. Just thought'd I'd enlighten you all.

Also if he has anything negative, to say about my new found love, I shall just have to remind him who blew off who.

As far as my Kaidan playthrough, I visited life support, but it was hard. For a romance to trigger, you have to select the "I want you" option, and when it came up, I stared at it for a few minutes, before doing the faithful deed. Then I had to reload another game
The three of them are very different (THane/Garrus/Kaidan), but they all have these unassuming, lovable personalities, they are all passionate in their own way, slightly stubborn, somewhat poetic, a strong sense of justice, through different means. They were all very well-written romances. It's hard to choose a favorite.
I also really want to romance Garrus, so maybe I'll recruit Thane second to last, or something.
Edit: Aw, Missi! I just read your dream. Luckily Kaidan wouldn't really do that. Instead, he would just quiety and bitterly glare at you before walking away again. Maybe a hurtful word, but no kicking. That sucks.
I had a Thane dream once, no other Mass Effect dreams. It was weird, he was attempting to assassinate me. This was back in October, really freaky.

I hope not. The first two games have introduced a LOT of crewmates, friends and allies for Shepard. We're emotionally attached to them. Killing them off just to bring new people in would be pointless and disconnecting.Missi Moonshine wrote...

If there's not a cure I'll be disappointed but it could go either way. From the first time you meet him Thane is very upfront that he's dying. It's not like it's something that the game springs on us out of nowhere, and he himself believes he'll die before a cure is created so that leads me to believe they'll go through with it. The ME universe isn't shy about killing people off!
Personally though, if it was up to me, I reckon Mordin could fix it!

I think that's the only way I'll ever get round to staying faithful to that silly man
EDIT: Just read the dream too... probably more a response to him kicking us in the gut emotionally ^^ still a very weird dream, bad Kaidain!

I'm thinking the only way to pull it off is to just never visit the Life Support room. ever.....Otherwise Shepard will be up to her elbows in sexy assassin. Or never visit the Crew deck at all.......just stay off the floor completely.
I know. Not going to happen for me I'm afraid.
Someday I'll hook a Shep up with Garrus. I really do love Garrus, he's my right hand man. I took him everywhere in ME1 and I usually take him with me in ME2! But for me, Thane is the total package, he is just it for my main Shep. Every time I think I could possibly romance someone else on another playthrough, I think that I could be talking with Thane and any time spent talking with Thane is time well spent indeed (only if you're not doing other things with him, rawr!).
I'm probably in the minority, I didn't romance anyone in ME1 with my main Shep, Kaidan was left on Virmire to hold down the bomb (just in case it decided to float away).
I could be talking with Thane right now!

My Paragade, though, is not letting go of Kaidan. Oh, so very, very tempted, but still loyal. Or stubborn.
I'm trying to make finish another ME1 round so I can maybe romance Garrus, and try being Vanguard, but I miss being in Life Support..

I agree. They all have very similar characteristics, but they express them in their own attractive way. They're all nice boys.
Good
idea on recriewting Thane as late as possible. I always run to Illium
first and recruit him as soon as possible. This may be the only way I
DON'T romance Thane....[smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/andy.png[/smilie]
Ha
ha. I know it's totally out of character for Kaiden to hurt a woman,
but I just found it so amusing just BECAUSE he was so out of character.
I was very afraid of him. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/surprised.png[/smilie]

I started a faithful play through but I'm thinking it will end up like my ME1 save I wanted to transfer. I finished it at 11:35pm Jan 25th and got my ME2 game 12:10 am Jan 26th. LOL of course that was because I had a new 360 and didn't have my original ME saves......but I can so see me rushing a faithful playthrough the day before release. Just to see it.

Good thing he is totally understanding of my Thane obsession.
My boyfriend pretends to be all bothered by it and says that I'm strange and he jokes with me about it. He actually thinks it's quite funny. I'll be sitting on the computer and he'll be playing video games and it's just pure quiet in the room. Then I just burst out laughing for minutes because some of the stuff we say and do is just PURE GOLD. He thinks we're all silly.
But he supports us.
