It's not edited - you can see ammo skill is turned on. It's from Overlord DLC. When Shepard is talking to dr. Archer and your squadmates are gathering the dead. He stands in front of the coffins and goes into prayer position. You could see him from the window where you stand, though you cannot make out what he is doing. I only saw this when I was using flycam.
Aw, that's a really nice touch on Bioware's part.
Too bad is so easy to miss.

Sorry it's been a while, long days at work. I read your topic Sable, you had quite a few moderators comment on it. Not the best first impression on David Gaider eh? Hehe, but it is brilliant that you got to meet him (over the web, but still!)

What's interesting though is that after destroying the Geth canon outside Prometheus Station I heard Thane say "More blood on my hands". I've never heard him say that before! I love hearing random squad dialogue but I've played the game so many times I'm surprised I hadn't heard that one before.
It makes me want to hug him.

Gaider frequents the DA2 forums quite a lot to chat and snark. Mostly snark, but hey, he's the one who has to deal with the fans, so I can't blame him for being a touch testy sometimes. If I were him or any of the other devs, I would be breaking out the facepunching instead of the gentle snark.
Oh, Thane. Don't you realize that everyone on the Normandy has buckets of blood on their hands? Especially Shep? You need a hug. Hell, everyone on SR-2 needs a hug, including Shep.

I tend to notice patterns in video games, especially BioWare's. And that's ok, I understand there's no such thing as an original story, and it's execution that matters. But for me at least, overexposure to one trope or issue does cause it to lose its emotional punch. And after Aribeth, Aarin Gend, Carth, Jaheira, Zev, Thane, Sky, Valen, and probably more that I'm forgetting, I think I am allowed to call "overdone" on the dead ex thing. MY MONKEY WRENCH OF SYMPATHY CAN'T FIX ANY MORE PEOPLE. I IRRATIONALLY WANT TO PUNCH CHARACTERS WITH THIS TROPE. I AM JUST A TINY LITTLE BIT SICK OF IT.
I guess I just haven't seen that many characters with dead exes. As you know, I'm just playing the older BioWare games now, and I can only think of two or three movie characters who have a dead ex, and one of them is pure awesome. Thane was the first character in a BioWare game to tell me about his dead wife, so it's still new. (I'm probably going to see Sky soon though. From what I've read, I think I'll like him.)
That whole thread is full of hilarious comments. xD "SSV Family Issues."And if you wanna see Gaider yelling at me, it's here: http://social.biowar...1/index/4954850 It was all in good humor, of course.
You might not like my Earthborn Ruthless then. He would be the Admiral of the Family Issues fleet for a reason. But he's made of awesome! (If it helps, he doesn't have a dead ex. Just a lot of still-alive one night stands and friends with benefits, including a female krogan. xD)But I felt it was too much angst from a meta perspective. At a certain point, my ability to suspend disbelief that that much bad stuff has happened to one person sort of snaps, and I just kind of roll my eyes and go, "OK, what's next? Your puppy was kicked?"

Nice screenshots of Thane. It's cool that he actually does something different in that scene than everyone else, but a little strange that he only does it with his back to the camera. It makes sense that he's facing the bodies to pray and not Shepard, but still... couldn't he stand on the other side of the bodies so he could face them and Shepard at the same time? It's like that dancing turian in his loyalty mission - very easy to miss when you're not looking for it, and when you are looking for it, you're completely ignoring the rest of the mission.
You know, that's one of the things I love about ME2. I've sunk about 150 hours into the game over consecutive playthroughs (all with the same Shep, lol--ManShep is the first real replay), and I STILL find out about things like Thane's prayer and Dancing Turian. It's a nice touch of depth.

About characters and their horrible pasts: I think a lot of us will have different definitions of what seems believeable. To me, Thane having one tragedy after another is realistic. My Earthborn Ruthless is the same way, and I could probably find a trope for each one, but in my opinion, it stays in "this could really happen" territory, with the only thing I'm unsure about being the specifics of biotics. xD The "rule of cool" can be a good enough reason for a character surviving all of these things sometimes (and Shepard's a pretty good example). I like it when a character with a horrible past becomes strong because of it. In Thane's case, he was already strong when the tragedy happened. Being taken from his family and trained as an assassin when he was a child could be considered horrible, but Thane doesn't think of it that way, so I'm mostly talking about his family and illness when it comes to tragedy.
On a sort-of related topic, I hope there's a happy ending for Thane and Kolyat. MainShep did as much as she could towards that goal in ME2, but maybe there will be another chance in ME3.

You know, I'm actually more ok with the horrible backstory when it's the protagonist. Which is fairly hypocritical, I know, but PCs in RPGs do tend to have it worse than the rest of their party, or at least have the potential to have the crappiest life ever. It's just something I've gotten used to, so I guess my scale of what works for the PC is different from the scale I've gotten accustomed to for NPCs.
The only thing that consistently makes me LOATHE an NPC regardless of execution or content is any NPC who tries to out-angst the PC by fixating on comparatively trivial angst. It doesn't happen too often, but when it does, all my potential sympathy goes out the window. I'm sorry your wings got cut off, Aerie, and that you grew up in a circus with a crazy gnome. I'd like to refer you to my Bhaalspawn, who's had her father killed, her sister kidnapped, and her soul slurped out like soda through a straw. Oh, and to top it all off, everyone hates and fears her from being a Child of Bhaal. So...yeah. You can stop complaining and grow some perspective, or you and your missing wings can jump off a bridge into a vat of acid. Filled with sharks.
(Three guesses what I think of Aerie, lol. Thankfully, the ME crew were good about not doing this. Jack got close at times, but she avoided it because Shep actively has to talk to her about her issues, at which point you're just asking for it.)

I never noticed that he does this. I have only played Overlord twice and both of those were the xbox version. Now that I have the pc version of ME2 I can look for this.

I'll have to load the program that allows for the flycam and replay ME2. I've been wanting to do another play through just haven't had the time. Now with AC2, it may be a bit longer. Grr..
My poor ManShep's replay of ME has gotten put on hold thanks to Fallout 3. I wish there were a way to port ME1 to the ME2 engine. It'd be so much easier to replay.

I'm doing another playthrough now on my laptop, which means I get DLC. Also, I get to recruit Kasumi. She seems really cool from what I have seen of her. I will do a PC playthrough for Thane and one for Garrus. (But this guy
I sooooo have to get the flycam. Prepare for some Tash - style screenies over the next few weeks! (Provided that work doesn't decide to haul me in ever day

LOL I want to do a replay so bad now. I might have to bite the bullet and play three games (AC2, ME, DA:O) at once. One night dedicated to each. Oh gosh, I can see the craziness now. "Now, where was I?"

Screenshots from Tash and her Shepard! Come on now, you have to do this! Squeee!!!!! If you do this, I will forgive you taking Garrus first instead of Thane. Actually, you should take both of them and just have the best of both worlds.

Warden: OK, just gotta assassinate the Arl of Redcliffe, then we can be on our merry way to the next target.
Alistair: Wait--what?! We're supposed to be SAVING him! Looking for the Urn of Sacred Ashes!
Warden:
Alistair:
Shep: Why am I in these crazy white robes? Where the hell is my gun?
Ezio: This armor is SO unfashionable. LEOOO! FIX IIIIT!
Alistair: ...maybe I accidentally drank Oghren's ale last night, and this is all a horrible dream. Yes. *rocks back and forth*
Wrex: Eh. You'll get used to it <_<
