Garrus' rejection wasn't that bad to me. He just seemed to shrug it off. I know not everyone feels this way, but Garrus' romance as a whole did nothing for me. To each their own.

Scratch that. I was thinking the rejection before the romance scene. Not the romance scene rejection. Yeah, it's pretty painful to watch.

Also, attempting a playthrough of ME2 where I stay loyal to Liara. Taking all bets: how long can Raven resist visiting the life support deck?

If you manage your Shepard has more willpower than mine. She always caves after a while. He is to darn irresistable<3
I romanced Kaiden in the first one though, at least Liara is happy to see you, not angry. Kaiden didnt stand a chance after his little fit.

Yeah, you're probably right. Shep and Thane are just meant to be.

I had a hard time doing my Kaidan loyal playthrough. I did it first on the xbox before I really knew anything about Thane. I just had to avoid him. If I didn't I would have never been able to complete that playthrough. When I bought the game for the pc I did the Kaidan loyal playthroug first again and found it really hard to stay away from Thane. I did manage to do it. I just got through that playthrough as fast as I could.

Nothing against Kaidan--there's just a lot of competition for Shep's affections between all the LIs.  Five of them in total (Garrus, Thane, Kaidan, Liara, Jacob) plus semi-romances like Samara and Kelly.  (And yet I still haven't found one whom my Renegon FemShep won't terrify.)

Poor Chris Priestly--I'm starting to see why the inclusion of romance in every BioWare game is beginning to drive him a little stir-crazy.

No screenies of Thane yet. But loads of brilliant Garrus shots.

And on ME1. Kaidan curiously wanders to look at the beacon... Shepard sees him, he is distracted. She grins wickedly as she darts over behind him and...

Goes straight for the balls!

Imagine what this Shepard would be like around Thane! Hehe!

Hehe! Brilliant isn't it! I wonder how Thane would react in a similar situation?
Shapard: Thane, look a convenient distraction!
Thane: Siha I can't see anything-

My Shepard always is when it comes to the aliens of Mass Effect... For example:

Let's hope Garrus never finds out that Shepard has been taking these pictures? Eh?
Still, Raven's Shepard is even more naughty!!
Edit: But... DAT ASS!!

What I am curious about though is the old LIs reaction if you are "unfaithful".

If Kaidan yells at me again I would very much like the option to punch him. Though I have a feeling he is going to be sweet in the new game because he can actualy be in it, and not just as a cameo. So they dont need an excuse to keep him away.

But my Shep belongs to Thane now, dead or alive. Praying for the latter offcourse

Yeah, I saw his comments on the DA 2 Board. On the one hand, I can see where he's coming from since everytime a new character is announced someone makes a thread asking if they're going to be a LI. For example, when the ME3 teaser was released people were already asking if the unnamed soldier holed up in Big Ben was going to be a LI. People made banners and everything. The enthusiasm of the fanbase is great but it does seem excessive sometimes.

Personally, I wouldn't mind if there were no new love interests in ME3 because as you said there are already 5 options for FemShep and five for ManShep. I'd like Bioware to focus on developing the existing romances instead of creating new ones at the end of the trilogy. Part of me strongly suspects there will be new love interests and squadmates to cater to new players but hopefully it won't be at the expense of the ones Bioware have already established.

This! so much. But I think your probably right and their will be new LIs. I just hope Bioware will focus on their loyal players and not just  the new once. Besides couldnt a new player romance and Li that already exists?
But then again they would still have to write the dialouge so I guess there wouldnt be much difference in using an old one as introducing a new one.

Or his bro   My ManShep's goal by the end of ME2 is to get Thane good and horribly smashed at some point before he dies.  ManShep is such a happy-go-lucky guy; he's going to introduce fun into Thane's life whether Thane likes it or not :P

LOL.  That would be hilarious.  I would like to see very drunk Garr-bear, ManShep, and Thane making fools of themselves on the dance floor.

But no, dancing is too tame for my crazy adrenaline-junkie ManShep.  He'd probably try to get Thane to go skydiving with him or something.

I will be surprised if there are new LIs in ME3. I will not be surprised, however, if there aren't and people get upset. It's an RPG - not The Bachelor.

Two LIs have been enough for my Shep. And she's found the person she has an unspoken bond with: Thane. So, it's enough. I won't be pursuing anymore romance in the ME franchise. Unless they make a whole new game after ME3 revolving around a different hero or something.

But anyway, what I was going to say is the reason I love ME so much is that it focuses largely on the plot and not "getting some," as it were. Granted, I loved DA too where the romance intertwined more with the main plot, but I don't want every BioWare game I play to be about lovey-dovey smooshy-pooing. Yes, my protagonist has feelings - she can fall in love. But damn it, she has her priorities.

My friend and I were discussing the place of romance in RPGs.  We figured that going with your typical sci-fi/fantasy show, movie, whatever--you end up having your protagonist character arc, your main plot, and your love interest.  BioWare games since BG2 tend to fall into the same pattern.  And sometimes you need all three for the story to feel complete, and sometimes you don't.  In RPGs like BioWare's where you have more customizability, the defining element is the player character and how s/he reacts to things, so the importance of a romance can vary wildly even within one game.

Take my DA:O character.  I actually didn't think Alistair was all that important for her story.  Sure the romance was sweet, but her character arc and the plot more than carried the tale on their own.  If they'd broken up a few years later...meh.  It'd be fine. But I know a lot of people did not feel that way, and vehemently so.  And that leaves the devs in a difficult spot for deciding what weight to place on the romance.

I agree. And I love that they've included the love story as an element in the RPG. It isn't necessary for me to enjoy the story, but it's a nice touch.

As for Alistair, I liked him. Hell, I loved him. And I'm glad that at least one of my protagonist's stories ended happily. That is, my Cousland marrying the king--partly to get back at the Howes in a "ha-ha, take that ****es" sort of way.

I applaud the devs, the writers, and all the rest responsible for bringing us fans RPG romance. And I applaud their ability to put up with us and our demands.

Yeah...they and the mods are f-ing saints putting up with us   Though I will always feel more sorry for the poor souls in charge of the seething cesspool of loathing and sexism over at the TOR forums.

Anyway, back to Thane.  How would your Sheps get him to lighten up?  Laugh more often, crack a grin, etc.  As I've mentioned, my ManShep would embark on an epic quest to get Thane smashed...and then probably try to go skydiving off of Ilium's rooftops or something.  Hilarity ensues.

We need love interests in Mass Effect. If it wasn't for Thane as an LI this board wouldn't probably exist XD....but I agree I really hope they develop the Mass Effect 2 relationships more indepth in the 3rd game. I think the second game had much better people to fall in love with but the first game went into their romance more. I feel like right when you started to get to know Thane or whomever you were with you were already at your suicide mission. I needed more time with them, more diologue options to increase their relationship. I am really really not complaining when I say this bercause I don't mind but I kind of feel like you and Thane fel in love a little too fast. I wanted more diologue where you both could express your felings for each other and then build your relationship from there. I needed more between the two. Since is the last game in the trilogy...hopefully not the last one permenantly..I really hope they allow you to realy get deep into the relationship with tons of dilogue options and scenes....it was just feel like a much more satisfying relationship than it ALREADY is :)

I agree that more development of the romances would be really great for ME3, but I do have to quibble with this.  We don't NEED love interests in anything.  What we need for a good RPG are solid characters, good writing, badassery, emotional connections, solid plot, and interesting IP.  Romance is a WAY in which we can form the emotional connections that make the game really something else, but friendship works just as well.

People gave Awakening so much flack for not having romances--honestly, I kinda liked it that way.  Awakening had a lot of problems, but lack of romance was not one of them.

Sable Rhapsody - I am not saying that not having romance in a game is deal breaker...I just think it is a very welcome and amazing touch that just brings the player closer to the characters and the overall game itself. I am for it but I am not going to not play a game just beacuse it doesn't have it. The game needs a solid story, solid background and gameplay, solid characters and character development and then if the developers want they can add romance in. I think Mass Effect did a really nice job with only a few minor tweeking here and there.

I thought Awakening was lacking when I first played it - not for the shortage of romance, mind you - but it grew on me. My Cousland was happily wed to Alistair, so it's not like I would have pursued any other LI anyway.

How would Shep get Thane to lighten up? Space weed.

*Couldn't resist.*

I don't think, at least from my Shep's perspective, that she would try to get him to lighten up. She has enough of her own dark/crude sense of humor that she doesn't need someone else's funny bone. When Thane told Mouse that he could "change his pants in a moment" I wish there was an option where I could have looked skeptically at Mouse and went, "Oh my God. He made a funny."

That said, charming Thane into a friendly game of poker isn't out of the question.
