Thing is, as I've learned in most games, your party seems grateful when you stop them from killing somebody. I think Garrus thanks you either way, but I personally don't believe in revenge. Waste of resources.

I wouldn't judge what's best for one character as what's best for another though. For example, Thane and my Earthborn Ruthless Shepard - Thane feels guilt about killing and torturing those batarians, but my Shepard doesn't. They react in completely different ways to the same situation sometimes. For Garrus, revenge seems to come naturally to him. It was his idea. Shepard didn't talk him into it, like some of the other squadmates. So it's more like agreeing with him than telling him what's best.

Too tough a decision for me, so 1/2 the time, I encourage Garrus to kill Sid, and the other 1/2, I do the "this isn't you, let it go" schtick". "An eye for an eye" is evidence for the first, "The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong, forgiveness is divine"”, is my evidence for the second. So, I think there is enough ethical stuff out there to support both decisions. SInce I can see (and feel) both sides, I do both...too hard to choose one over the other. I think Garrus is fine with either. Anyway, imo....this was a quick kill, not a slow tortured kill, so different than Thane's vengeance, yep, there is a difference in the two - "Revenge is an act of passion; vengeance of justice. Injuries are revenged; crimes are avenged.” My Shep is all about justice..........

raven - I agree, revenge uses up way too many resources, and what's left afterwards???

I think Thane's finished in terms of revenge anyway. From now on it's just the potential of going kamikaze in the name of Shepard's mission.

“Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves.” ~ Confucius

But this is different from violence after all...

“Anyone who clings to the historically untrue -- and -- thoroughly immoral doctrine that violence never solves anything I would advise to conjure up the ghosts of Napoleon Bonaparte and the Duke of Wellington and let them debate it. The ghost of Hitler would referee. Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor; and the contrary opinion is wishful thinking at its worst. Breeds that forget this basic truth have always paid for it with their lives and their freedoms.” ~ Robert A. Heinlein

So, violence okay, revenge, not so much. :P

Shep: So Garrus, did I ever tell you how lucky I am to have you with me in all this?

Garrus: Ummmm, has Thane been giving you "reflectons on life" lessons again?

Shep: I just wanted you to know that I couldn't do this without you, old friend.

Garrus: Look - I chose to walk into hell with you, knowing what I was getting into, and I'm staying until it's finished.

Shep: It's good to know I can count on you.

Garrus: ^sighs^ - I really need to have a talk with Thane about the consequences his life lessons are having on you. You were never like this with my calibration lessons.

Shep: ^smirks^ - You're right Garrus, I think I'll go find Thane and show him some calibrating

Garrus: ^facepalm^

Gnas wrote:Maybe its me but I think Thane taught Shepard a thing or two about "calibrating."

Gnas - I think they both chose to teach each other (w\\o Mordin's brochure), variations of "calibrating" based on anatomy, unfamiliar body parts, ero zones and ummmm I'm having fun picturing this........................
