Yeah, I wonder if Thane takes Shepard's advice after that. He does seem confident, but very socially reclusive. I like to think that he got to know the crew after that.

So, here is a question for y'all before I go upstairs to play on ME2 and take some screenie goodness:

Thane, or cookies? Na I'm joking...

What do you make of the drell culture? What sort of art, music, literature etc. would they have? From Thane's character, I imagine they are a very thoughtful race with diverse talents, philosophies and religions.

I ask this because I did Kasumi's LM, and I was looking at all the art, and thinking, what does drell art look like?

I'd like to think Thane and Garrus had a few conversations and get along well enough with each other. For some reason, I think Thane could get along with Samara too, even though their philosophy is very different... I guess it's just their personalities, both are very calm and mature.

Yeah, that's always what I thought. I think Thane would be polite to everyone, but those are the only two that I think he could potentially get on well with.

We know a bit about their religion from Thane (polythesitic) ; Their art would probably be more relaxed like you said; I'd probably guess they wouldn't have any rock and roll music.

Another Xbox player, here.

I agree that Garrus and Samara both seem like obvious 'friends' for Thane. Maybe that is why I like them both so much?

Kim Shepard wrote...
I play on the Xbox. I plan to buy a gaming PC eventually, so I'll get DLC, mods, and screenshots all at once. I totally expect to fail at the combat though. I'm used to playing on consoles with a controller in my hands. xD

It is difficult to avoid the "I want you Thane" line, but it was actually interesting to try some of the non-romance dialogue in my Garrus playthrough. I think you will enjoy it! He does make a very good friend. Stay strong... for science.

This was basically my first playthrough, a FemShep who romanced Garrus and was friends with Thane. I agree, he makes a great friend, and my FemShep still got to have a lot of conversations with him. Also, no trap romance thanks to a very obvious romance starter line, and no turn-down lines either. I liked that about his and Garrus' friendship, that the topic of romance never had to be brought up at all. Much more realistic.

Yes! The lack of a trap romance is great. He never throws himself at Shep, and Shep really doesn't hit on him inappropriately either (*cough*Jacob*cough*). It's kind of funny, since his romance is a trap for me personally, anyway.

How about Thane cookies?

I would think something along the lines of our classical art, especially the sculptures and stuff. For some reason, I think of ancient Greek and Roman, like the statues of the gods. I can seek some kind of drums or guitar music.

I always play on the PC, find it more useful than a console.

Just wondering- what do you mean by more useful?

I meant that a PC can be used for other things besides playing. As far as I know a console only lets you play videogames or watch movies.

Nice, everyone agrees about Thane's friends. :) I could try to guess about art and music for the drell, but I don't think I know them well enough. I think Thane might like classical-type music though. It could be good music for meditations.

As for romance traps, I hate them. And I like certain characters more for not having them. xD Liara's romance was the only one that ever actually trapped one of my characters (it seems that there are problems with both Liara's and Kaidan's romances for this, but not on everyone's games - I've always been able to turn Kaidan down politely, but have to avoid Liara). I stayed away from Jacob though for fear of a romance trap there. Eventually, I'll get to play ME2 as a MaleShep and hopefully won't find any there. But really, I respect the characters so much more if it never comes up between friends, or if there is a very easy and polite turn-down with the subject never being brought up again. Zevran's a great example. He flirts with everyone, but when my Warden said "you're wasting your time, that's all", every conversation after that continued as friends. If only all romance options could work like this or like Thane and Garrus.

PC. My brother's 360 was stolen from his apartment, so he took mine 'cause I never played on it except for Fable 3.

I also play on PC because I am addicted to mods / modding.

wow that must of sucked for your bro

what type of mods?

For DAO I just install other people's mods. I hate the toolset - never works for me. I go here

For ME2 modding is difficult. The more appropriate term is hacking. You essentially hack your .ini file to make the changes. Go to the Modding Is Possible thread and to the Modders' Group to see the possible "mods."

It's actually very sweet. The comment about how Shepard is his first friend in ten years (or something like that) and how Shepard can encourage him to make more friends on the Normandy and stuff. I like it.

See, I never heard him talk about making more friends. That's the kind of stuff I want to explore. Thanks for letting me know. =]

For some reason, whenever I think of drell culture I think Indian / Hindi culture. Vibrant, harmonious, exotic food, music and art.

Something like this.

Oh, and for those of you who are Quentin Tarantino fans I found this and I have to say, Thane is sexy even when he sounds like a high-pitched Jewish boy.

Drell culture? Hard to say, just because Thane is on the spiritual side doesn't mean other drell are, he comments himself that most of his people have left the "old gods".

Whenever I think about deserts and aliens first thing that pops into my mind is Dune ( only seen movies ). But Thane comments on how Rakhana has become a wasteland because of industry contamination and overuse of resources, so a Mad Max like scenario also pops up to mind.

So before their world collapsed? Dune like, after? Mad Max thingie

Wow, I'm not gone for even 48 hours, and so much to catch up on!! I love how we can relate all things to Thane..it's like the "10 degrees of Kevin Bacon", only sexier, imo....

Welcome to raynbow & Commander tabris

raven - platonic?? imo........not possible with Fem Shep, once you've romanced Thane. Play a MaleShep, then you can experience the different story lines. Otherwise, I'm tellin' you, you'll miss Thane, and hear his lines in your head. Not to mention, his "Oh, well, then I hope you don't mind if I keep you in my heart" (or something similar he says) that just rips out your soul because you told him "No". Well, that's my opinion anyway, I DID try, I mean, I've played it 14 times, and don't ask me how many times I tried do deny my Thane addicition w/o success :)

Play on PC, never had XBox, tried it on PS3, but not the same as PC. Agree with others, modding rocks!! If I couldn't change Shep's hair, eye color or clothes...I don't think I'd be such an addict.(not to mention changing Thane's leather to white/black and gold, or black/red) Cursed Extreme Fashionista!!

mnomaha - oooohhhhh, Thane cookies, what an idea. *glazed eyes, appropriate posture change* Okay, back from Thanetasy land.............Ummm, trying not to go into jammie party mindset here, will do that on DA in appropriate section:)

I think Thane would get along with Zaeed too, so he's one of Thane's friends in my fanfic..........

Kim Shep - I hated the "forced LI" idea also. However, in ME1, I just always put Liara down, hard. Like, always chose 3rd option on right convo wheel. It was almost like "mean to the extreme", but it worked, so that I didn't have to romance either Alenko or her. (yep, Tentura & others can tell you how I feel about Alenko-that worthless, disloyal, weird eyed, glad to see you too, SOB... *catches self & ends tirade* )

abnocte - I agree that not all Drell are spirtual like Thane. Besides our love for Thane, are all of us here alike??? It's our different perspectives that make this thread sooooo 'intriguing"

Yes. I imagine that their culture has been overpowered by Hanar culture, since they were incorporated into their planet and society. Before that, I think their society would've been too much of a mess with the fighting to stay alive in an overpopulated planet to have much artistic or intellectual output. Or it would be heavily influenced by violence and struggle.

I play on PC and with each new game I have to upgrade it. :) How to gamers with the experience begins in the Spectrum and the games were recorded on tape.B)

I find it difficult to answer about the culture of the drells. As I understood from a conversation with Thane, currently drells actively adopt hanar's and azari's culture and religion. This is not surprising. These people put in a new environment and sociosphere.

Thane is more conservative. He believes in the old gods, and remembering the "crazy dance" says the played is not modern music (classical or folk?). I'd give a lot to listen to this music!

Hehe! I am a slowpoke! While I translated and wrote magelet ahead of me.

Yeah, that is the downside of a PC. You have to upgrade it every few years. Expensive.

And I was just watching this and could barely stand it. Who knew Thane could be so dark and cold towards you?

I do. I caught the little "I will die a few months after" bit in the video, but I don't think ME3 will be set too far away from where we left off.

I don't think it will be a year+. At the end of ME2 the Milky Way is well in sight of the Reapers, and I doubt they're slow-movers.
