If you simply befriend him, he develops this almost zen attitude toward his death.  If you romance him, he doesn't seem nearly as at peace.  I guess it makes sense, but it makes me kinda uncomfortable too.

Exactly, and that is my justification for only having two out of seven Shepards for Thane. It is sad, he is in a terrible situation already, and I wouldn't want to complicate things further for him just when he has readied himself for death. Although, fiery will disagree with me as we have had this conversation before . Yeah, it will be nice for him to experience love in his last 8 to 12 months, but there is also the guilt of leaving Shepard (and Kolyat) when he does die. (If he dies, don't kill me! )

And Sable, just be glad that aliens aren't on Earth (as we know it) or everyone will know me as the girl who is constantly in bars pulling aliens and claiming to have 'flexibility.'

Hehe, although I think that Thane's is the most moving romance scene, and it is handled exceptionally well, I prefer Garrus as a person, his character and all that.

Ah, Kal'Reegar. Another example of a fine fitting uniform. however, I still prefer the zippered leathery goodness of Thane's attire.

Thane's romance is moving. It's easy and romantic and clearly shows the emotions attached to the players. I think a lot of players expected a smexy love scene and got more than they bargained for. Although I would have loved some randy love scene, I think BW made up for some of it with the emotional side of it.

You know, I'm pretty sure if I met a turian or a drell IRL, my reaction would be less  and more .  I honestly think a lot of the reason why I prefer Garrus has to do with the Uncanny Valley.  There IS no Uncanny Valley for the more exotic aliens, because we've no idea what they're actually supposed to look like.  The human characters on the other hand can get quite Uncanny Valley.

That breaks my heart. I know I will never fail his loyalty mission because I would never want to see him give in to such despair. Keythe Farley did such an amazing job with Thane's voice. You can hear the undercurrent of abject sadness with every word he utters but he's very subtle and doesn't hit you over the head with it. I'm so glad they chose him and not the other guy. No one else could give such life to Thane.

Just out of curiosity for those who were around before ME2 was released, did they announce that Garrus and Tali were returning companions or did they keep it underwraps until the release of the game?

I love everything about his romance, except that I wish he wasn't dying. I just think it's sweet how he holds Shepard's hands while they're talking, that he calls her 'siha' and is sort of playful and mysterious about the meaning behind it which keeps her guessing. I love the sense of a second chance that it gives to both characters. Thane feels like he spent ten years dead and Shepard lost two years of her life. They've had to struggle. Both have loved and lost. But they still found each other in the end and they have an uncertain future but they're going to face it together.  Before Shepard Thane was basically existing on auto-pilot. I love what he wrote in his letter: "The expectation to move swiftly to my end vanished upon uniting with your cause. You awoke me, Shepard. My heart quickened its sluggish beat if only to remain at your side and protect you with everything that I am. I was content to simply watch, take the time left given and praise all I know for allowing me to walk my final days with hope and certainty that I am worthy of more than my cold isolation, solely because you believed."

I love that. He has a purpose and he has hope and he knows that every moment he is alive is precious. He also knows that he is loved and valued by the person he loves. They will be there for each other.

I was thinking about this the other day. I know just from listening to the other Drell in ME2 that the resonating voice is normal, but do you think Thane's particular voice is affected by the Keprals? Maybe a lower sound and some other quality? Would he sound different if he were cured?
