I find it irritating that people think that Thane's illness is what defines his character, because... you know...
He isn't philosophically interesting, or well-written, or has a lot of depth...
/end sarcasm
/end rant
It's also blatantly obvious, in my opinion, that the writers are playing up his supposed impending death. I thought so especially after receiving the letter from him in the Shadow Broker base.

I say Miranda.
Her genetics caused her to be sterile, so why not let them kill her too?
Kidding, I like Miri...

I would just like too see the rage that would occur if one the male LIs died. Since there is more maleShep players there would be no end to it. Should they be allowed to walk happily into the sunset and have blue babies with Liara for example, while leaving many femSheps in tears?? FemShep gets enough crap as it is
They would never do that. They would never touch Miranda, Tali, and Liara. I'm not sure about Jack.

Except that one of the first sentences Thane says to Shepard is "I am dying".
None of the male love interests are introduced as someone with a terminal illness.

I'd still like to believe that they always planned to somehow cure him.

If they threatened Tali's death, due to the whoel dextro-amino thing, or her getting sicker with ongoing contact with a human, or whatever . . . the fan outcry would be pretty huge.

True but maleShep gets to tap Tali, which lives in a suit. This could actually kill her,but all she gets is a cold. Happily glazed over if you ask me

There should definitely be medical consequences for romancing Tali, but dying is a bit much.

A lot of things that happen in this game get glossed over. No one seemed to complain when Shepard came back after being dead for two years, but for some reason there is a problem with Thane getting a cure.

THIS so much. Why is Thanes cure a problem when so many things are glossed over??
.And for curing him being fanservice, so may thing are actually fanservice including Tali and Garrus, and that has made many fans very happy. Whats wrong with that exactly?

You guys saw that the Mass Effect 2 page and the BioWare page on Facebook are drawing attention to the Cure Thane campaign? I'm no expert, but I can't imagine they'd create a huge ruckus like that and then in ME3 go, "Naw, he dead. Soz."
Seriously though I doubt they will kill him in ME3. Even if they don't cure him, he can still live though to the end of the games!

Or maybe Shepard dies and leaves a newly cured/treated Thane all alone in tears. Or maybe the Reapers succeed, cause really, who knows how many of them are out there or how many other galaxies they annually wipe out. Milky Way isn't the only one in the universe. So really, what chance do these races have? Shepard? One person? Really? No, everyone should die. There. Problem solved. No one feels singled out or neglected, cause everyone is equally screwed.
But a dead Thane would make me a sad pumpkin. And as for "you knew he was dying you idiot, what do you expect?" Well, I expected, and still do, for them to cure him.
Seriously I was like, Hey good looking, dropping out of a vent and snapping necks, I'm gonna romance you, oh yes I am, you sexy little...
Thane: "I'm dying."
Me: Oh, come on! WTF. *momentary fit of random screams and threats at my x-box of purging it of evil* It's ok, they will cure him.

I'd like to believe that, too. And the thing is, a cure wouldn't come out of left field like some of the naysayers are claiming. Thane already talked about how the Hanar are working on it. We just need to buy him some more time and maybe get scientists from other races (like the Salarians) to help with the research. Maybe Mordin could recommend some colleagues who might be persuaded to help?

It would be too cruel, even for them. I can't tell you how hopeful I feel since Bioware acknowledged the Cure Thane campaign so enthusiastically. I will be crushed if there's no way to save him in ME3.
