He would have to be tough to be an assassin. So I doubt pain would bother him much.

Well, if he's anything like Kai Leng, I imagine he can deal with pain extremely well. But Kai had N7 training too. I wonder what Thane's training was like. Probably really intense (and adorable, because of the six-year-old drell).

They don't give a time line really for ME2, or not one I know about. I imagine it would span over a few months. Time wise I doubt Shepard dilly dallied, humans being abducted and all. Unless you count the hours spent trying to line Shepard up to dance with a squad-mate.

It's just a guess, but I would say ME2 probably lasted for a few months. I'm glad game time doesn't pass as fast as real world time though, or have too many consequences when Shepard goes off and does side missions. I once did a side mission right before Ilos. Luckily, Saren waited patiently for me to show up. xD

I am sure Saren wasn't patient at all! He was stomping and fuming that you were so late for your date (aka, 'sparring.')

I thought Thane thought he was only going to be alive for 8-12 months? That makes me happy that he may have longer than that, I guess I just interpreted it differently. So after 8-12 months, he will start to physically deteriorate... He could always try cybernetics? It is becoming quite a fashion now...

If you guys have played LotSB, Thane has a file inside his dossier that's a medical report by Dr. Chakwas:

Thane's Medical Report From Dr. Chakwas

It basically says the infection is beginning to spread through his organs, is now resistant to most antibiotics and one of his lungs is almost covered with scarring/tumors.  He's already suffering from oxygen deprivation, as his lung capacity is less than 50% of what it would be if he was healthy.  It also says he refused to be added to a list for transplants.  In other words, things could go downhill quite rapidly for him.  And soon.

The fact that he could perform as well as he does in combat under those conditions is astounding.  I can't imagine how dangerous he would be at peak.

It makes me feel sad for him, he's probably pretty good at hiding his state from Shepard.  He can't be feeling well with those kinds of symptoms.

Thanks so much for those! Posted Image I know the highlight was supposed to be his thighs but all I could see  was DAT BULGE Posted Image

And yeah I could only imagine how Thane would be during his peak.  WOW.  Well to my (il)logical mind that would explain why he's a sniper in-game rather than the neck-snapping, prefer-to-kill-in-close-range assassin that he's SUPPOSED to be Posted Image

Ashley in ME1 states that an intra-sector flight to visit her sister could be completed in a day. Considering how far you travel in ME2, I would say a few months is a pretty good guess.

It's heartbreaking to think that poor Thane was suffering during the ME2 missions, but how could he not be given how far along his illness is? This did just break my writer's block however, so thanks Aislinn. xP

I saw this and my mind went places...

But seriously, I'm curious as well. If this is him at a weakened state, what was he like before he got Keprals?

Well, he is renowned as the greatest assassin in the galaxy. ;-)

I'm curious, in the Shadow Broker dossier on him it mentions something called the "One-Hour Massacre" on Omega. Apparently he was responsible. Could it be he tracked some of Irikah's killers there?

I love your comics. I especially liked the one where Thane was brought to Pragia. Mostly because I ended up doing the exact same thing. I was like great, I am the worst commander ever:pinched:

By the way, what Thane meant to say is that he will start showing symptoms in 8-12 months, not that he will die by then.

@Fiery

I feel the same way and it breaks my heart. He's had such a hard life.

The fact that he decided to join Shepard's cause, while having to endure all of that really speaks volumes. An incredibly strong individual.

I feel as if the documents in LotSB (including the love letter) are really playing up his supposed tragic end. Just have this feeling they have plans in store for Thane. Could be wrong, of course, but that's just how I feel about it.

@Tinve:  Do you mean how Thane doesn't show any real sign of his illness - like having to catch his breathe in battle, or coughing, etc?  I believe someone else had spoken on that recently, too ... maybe abnocte (not sure... sorry if I'm referring to the wrong person).  It is hard to think of him as terminally ill sometimes, since he is so *sexily* effective in battle.  I have to think that was done on purpose.  On a basic level, I think players might not consider him a viable teammate if he were obviously struggling with his disease.  But, I also hold hope that he was not further along in the disease's progress because we might find a way to treat/cure him at some point in the future.

No, no, no... I'm talking about character animation. Technical side. The same is true there are other characters, but there is not so noticeable.

I still wonder about that letter. He is the only one who gets any romantic content, but does that mean something good or bad for his character.

@hanar

The letter shows only what the alternative ending could be – you know if he died. And it answered some of our questions (if he dies who he will want to be with in the afterlife). He is not going to die. If you ask anyone who is a writer they will tell you that it is very hard for them to kill their own creations. In ME not one squadmate is actually really dead. Not even Kaiden and Ashley. They are both alive for Bioware. And they couldn't even kill off Feron. I was 100% sure he will be dead before the Shadow broker DLC came out. And I think that Thane is one their favourite characters.

And I don’t know how some of you play the game. But I only play Sihas. Others might try different LIs and therefore would like different stories. But in my case it will always be a sad ending if he dies no matter what I do. So I will be punished for liking someone? It’s not really fair now is it. :?

Anyhow I probably won’t be able to play ME3 at all if he’s dead. It will just be too sad for me. Games should be fun not morbid. That’s just my opinion however. If Bioware decides  they are going in the “art” direction with only sad stories then I guess I won’t be playing their games anymore. Therefore I’m trying to stay positive even if this post sounds very depressing.

These are my Shepards - they even dress like him::P

Thanks for clearing up the 8-12 months thing fiery. I am glad he has longer. That helps me out from a fanfic view as well now, cheers!
I'll still play ME3, however, if Thane dies. Hell, I'll even play ME3 if you don't hear anything from Garrus, Thane or Tali. It is the game I love, and although the storyline and characters are great, you need to understand that Bioware are thinking from a commercial perspective. I'll be annoyed, but I will still play it.
As for Thane, well I agree. For the amount of effort they put into his character and the drell species, they wouldn't be able to just kill him off. I personally, think players should be given a choice in the matter. A cure or way of prolonging his life with consequences. A bit like the post I put on a topic made about this matter.
But, if Thane dies (or if Garrus and Tali aren't squadmates) then I will be angry Posted Image.
Edit: I AM SOOOO SORRY!! Posted Image

Well I don't play games that make me angry for whatever reason no matter how good the prequels were. And I don't like sad things. I just don't. And that will be too depressing for me. Even if it will be the best ME game I won't like the setting. I love Bioware games but if they'd made a game set in WW1 or WW2 (or any other more real time war) I also would not be playing it. For some reason that period and setting it's just too much for my taste. It is however my boyfriends favourite setting (he likes the planes). People are different.

I can't wait to laugh in the faces of those who want him dead.

I bet he will have more of a “Be still Mouse, you can change your pants in a moment” style of personality in ME3.
