For those who believe that Thane not dying would ruin his character, please think about this: is it really fair that he is the ONLY LI to die like that (even if you saved everyone in ME2)? Plus wouldn't it be interesting to have a side mission in the third game that was about a treatment/cure for him? I have faith that however Bioware, if they do choose to, write about curing Thane it will not seem out of place or cheap. Thane is my favorite LI in all Bioware games I've played and I hope to see him play a role in ME3. (Sigh, sorry for the rant, needed to say it. Besides come on people we're lagging behind here! The kaiden thread has 100 pages already....which is extremely surprising....I always thought he was excruciatingly boring but hey thats just me).

And Arrtis, yes, he is trying to patch things up with Kolyat, they keep in touch. But he has promised to stay by Shep's side, either as a friend and teammate, or as a LI. If you romance him, he does NOT want to die.

I am really worried that Thane and Garrus will be kicked to the curb in ME3 or have as little screen time as the ME1 LIs had in ME2. It does seem odd though that Bioware would put so much effort in these compelling romances merely to waste their time with them if we couldn't continue it in ME3. I get that players will have a chance to rekindle the ME1 love in ME3....but honestly I pretty much virmired Kaiden each time (and to me Liara doesn't count for my femshep) so that isn't really an option (all my sheps were single and are now with either Thane or Garrus). Considering the obscenely HUGE fanbase for Tali, they may reconsider not giving us ME2 LIs back. Plus they always emphasize how difficult it was to create Thane and how he was made specifically as a female LI- Why would they waste that? Come one Bioware don't take them away from us!

I'm absolutely with you with everything you said, even my femsheps were all single like yours.
@Sammy: Honestly said, I don't like the thought of having Kolyat as a "replace" for Thane. I like Kolyat, but he could never replace Thane in my point of view.
Assuming the devs would replace Thane with Kolyat, why did they create and put a lot of money in Thane in the first place? That doesn't make sense to me ..but it's just my opinion

In my opinion, if they do decide to include a cure in ME3 then the player should have the choice whether or not he/she wants him to live. A choice within the game caters for everyone, those who want him to die have the choice to do so and likewise those who wish him to live have that very same choice.

If all Bioware wanted was an extra LI for femshep why not go with another human? Thane could have easily been a human assassin with a terminal illness and a dysfunctional son. Everything, except the Drell perfect memory recalls, could have been the same and it wouldn't have been too difficult to make a handsome human. Male Shepard has two human LIs in ME2 then Tali, Femshep could have easily been stuck with two human LIs and Garrus. Instead they make up a whole new alien race and culture and go through, what seemed like a lot, to design him.
I think there is more in store for Thane and it is going to be Awesome!!
And if Kolyat told me he wanted to join my squad I would break his pistol and tell him to get his money back. He may be a Drell but that was such a sloppy attempt at an assassination that I felt embarrassed for the kid. C-Sec would have had him arrested within the hour. Kolyat won't replace Thane in ME3.

It's like saying that Shepard is merely a sum of his/her cyborg parts and that taking away Shepard's cyborg heritage would forever ruin Shepard's character because he/she would no longer be a cyborg and that's kinda the whole point of him/her and the launching point of ME2. I would say that no, removing Shepard's augmentations would not make Shepard any less Shepard than he/she already is. Shepard is more faceted than that. The augmentation was an event that happened, that influenced Shepard, but it is not all that Shepard is.

In creating a character with a terminal illness, Bioware was able to test the character and consumers' reactions to him. If liked, a cure can be found and if hated, it is easy to dispose off him.
I know it sounds cold, put like that, but it makes sense to me. If Thane, for some reason I cannot fathom, was utterly hated, it would be easy to write his death into ME3. This would save the writers from coming up with reasons why he was discarded and what eventually took his life.
But now that so many of us find Thane irresistible, it is possible that there'll be a cure.
I will be very, very sad and disappointed if not

Oh the drama! Whatever they decide to do with him, I hope it has meaning. Dead or alive, Thane was a great character, and they need to do him justice.

I have to agree with that. Kolyat just isn't skilled at assassination or combat from what I saw on the loyalty quest, and he would not be a worthy replacement for Thane, especially if you consider how high the stakes are likely to be in ME3. Plus, he's not handsome like his father. *cough* Yes, for once, I'm going to be shallow - Thane is far better looking than his son.

I think BW is very much aware and interested in their female gamers, if not, they wouldn't have given us Thane to begin with. But I do know they like to turn the knife a bit. I sincerely believe that they have something special planned for all the LIs, Thane included, especially since they went to such great lengths to create him and make him an amazing character.
I would be beyond heartbroken if ME3 opened with Thane's death and honestly, I wouldn't buy the game at all if that was the case. I understand that some people like drama, but that would be a little much for me and it would utterly and completely destroy any enjoyment I could possibly have for ME3. No new squadmate or flashy biotic power or fancy uber gun can take the place of Thane.

Anywho, I've really thought about it and it would actually suck if Thane died...no matter how awesomely dramatic it would be. It would be a cop out, which I have a HORRIBLE feeling BW is planning to do with all the ME2 LIs. I've been converted after reading through this forum. I hope we can lighten the mood a little though...it feels so depressing in here. Lets assure each other that BW will be cool and take of their fan girls.
HAPPY FACES!!! Go Thane!

I concur. Nothing would be worth anything to me in the game after that, and not to my Shepard either. As I've said before, what's the point of saving the galaxy if you can't save the one person most dear to you? How's that for drama.

he dies in ME3. I want some happiness in this ridiculously depressing story. Between
people getting killed, the ability to make a Shepard with a super depressing background,
characters having traumatic back stories, and just the coming doom of the galaxy I'd want
just ONE thing to be happy for my Shepard. I'm attached to my character.
I don't want to make her life a soap opera because it would be "dramatic" and "deep". . .
If I wanted a badly plotted love story with crappy depressing moments I'd read the Twilight
series again... Just saying.

It really would be an overly used plot device and Bioware needs to think of something better than that.
Also it would seem kind of like a trap wouldn't it?
I mean Bioware makes basically the perfect guy in a weird way (handsome, mysterious, enough of a bad boy for it to be interesting but not scary, romantic, religious, senstive) and then make him dying as like some sick joke and then kill him? It's like Thane is the bait and then they're just going to pull the hook away at the last minute.
