Well in ME3 you save earth and the galaxy, there needs to be some depressing stuff so it ends bittersweet. Even doing everything right, you need to lose good people whom you have become attached to. Maybe a moment where Thane throws himself to an even earlier death to save his love.

But thats just me, what bioware does remains to be seen.

That's why I said when it is necessary ;) ME3 will be dark because of the whole reaper invasion and there will always be that all is Lost ending or semi good or semi bad ending.(I hope they make it harder to gain a good ending. I love challenges ;) )

Anyway, back to Thane, he will be there in ME3 I know that, I just hope they do him justice instead of going like the tragic cliche and saying "Oh he is dead." easy route.

Whatever they do with Thane, I just hope it is done well for everyone who romanced him or befriended him. That's all I will say. Posted Image

^Agreed!

It's a given that there will be plenty of endings to ME3. I'm pretty sure BioWare will give everyone the option for depressing/bittersweet. Having an interesting quest where a cure/treatment is a possible outcome will not remove anyone's ability to have a tear-jerking ending to ME3. ME2 suicide mission gave people the chance to 'lose' teammates. Virmire gave you a choice between two teammates. ME3 will most likely bring us similar choices... but I would hope there will be multiple endings for Thane, just like I do for all the squaddies. I definitely don't see why Thane's death is a must.

A better question would have been: Will Thane be shirtless in ME3, will we finally see full on drellchest? Thoughts?

B) Yes please?

Oh yeah... and no no no to Kolyat on the squad.

Using mods, I can replace Shepard with Thane. Anyone have any ideas as to funny/cool scenes to put Thane in? I will post the videos here when I upload them.
Here's an example of what I can do:

Haha! That was too funny! You know, I was going to share my thoughts on the whole "Thane needs to die" thing, but I was afraid that I would ruffle feathers...especially, on cheesy endings and bittersweet endings, but I don't anyone here is ready for that. But, I will say that I enjoy this thread as you all have inspired me to do something regarding thane. It's a surprise.

Thane 'dancing crazy.' That would be awesome! The Thane creepy smile. And headbutting the Krogan shaman too.

Just a couple, but it sounds like it will be really fun. I look forward to pics Posted Image

As I said befor Aislinn that is a great picture of your Holly and Thane. We need a scene like that in ME3. I hope we get to see Shepads apartment again.

Why does Thane need to die?  Because he said he's going to?  Because of the story set up?  With that logic, does Shepard need to die?  The story certainly strongly hints that that is possibly one of the many endings.  But necessary?  Not totally, no.

If Thane has to die for your story to make more sense / feel better / provide you with what you're looking for, then more power to you.  But I don't think anyone should be locked into one batch of choices with only one outcome.  Nor, do I think, anyone wants the story between Thane and Shepard to suddenly lose all depth and meaning (i.e. magical tube of mystery cure).

What's wrong with the hero saving the day and riding off into the sunset with his / her guy / gal in the passenger seat?

Man. Manly tears of joy! I totally missed your posts over the past couple of months, Kaimana. Next time you disappear, make sure you leave a note, otherwise I will cut someone!

On a more serious note, I wish to add that shirtless Thane is anything but a stretch. See HERE.

Yeah I like what Kainama said, it gets tedious trying to persuade people that in the setting of Mass Effect, it is in fact possible that Thane WON'T die in the next year or so. I mean, is that so hard to believe? There are so many variables. But people seem to discount it all and say
ME3: Thane = dead.

Just seems closed minded to me. Shepard can be resurrected from 'meat and tubes.' A Krogan can be simply created. A network of sentient machines can be created. Organic material can be harvested to create a human reaper. An element can be used to give many telekinetic powers. Humans can survive in deadly climates wearing a bra-belt and a half mask. Drell can have an operation to their eyes which allows them to understand the bioluminescant speech of the hanar. Biotics have the ability to tear organics apart from their molecular strucutre. Cloaking devices can make you invisible. Mass relays can teleport an entire ship to another mass relay many lightyears away. A virus can be created to cause (almost) sterile to an entire race. Mordin sings Gilbert and Sullivan.

But Thane's lung infection is a lost cause.

Yeah...

I never understood it either Tasha. With all the things you just mentioned being able to be cured or some how fixed in the game. Thane's illness is the one thing some people seemto think can't be cured. The biggest thing being Shepard was dead, and brought back after two years. Why is it people have no problem with that, but they seem to have an issue with Thane being cured.

I think its because they think its dying that makes thane, thane or something like that. You'd think people asking for a cure were asking to take away his "thing", like dying slowly is his favorite pass time.

It bothers me that people keep saying Thane's state (dying) is what makes his character. That is so ridiculous it makes my head hurt. It's added drama, yes, but he'd completely stand alone without it.

His troubled past, his philosophies, all the interesting dynamics of his character aren't centered around his impending death. I don't think saving him would cheapen his character, either. I also don't think saving him should be easy. If it's something we have to fight for, so be it. My FemShep will do whatever it takes.

Indeed, his disease is not what makes him so special... I just can't imagine playing ME3 without Thane by my side... I'd miss his voice, his comments, his gestures and expressions, his devilishly handsome face, the tight leather pants, and and and... TEH ZIPPER!!! *faints* No, seriously, my Shepard would do anything to save him!

I hadn't considered Thane as an LI for my femshep until I heard his comment about the Krogan at Tuchanka. She's a sucker for intellectuals, especially if they're easy on the eyes.

My husband had a good point to this:

Its the same reason we can cure polio and do advanced heart surgery, but  not cure the common cold or cure cancers. Some things cannot be done.

I retorted this to no end. But I will say there is reasoning in this theory.

What worries me is, if he does die ( let's hope he doesn't ), is that it won't have any impact on anything at all beyond the scene in which it takes place. Judging just romwhat I've seen when other characters die its mostly just like " Oh, they died? That kinda sucks. I feel bad." and then it's never talked about again.

I mean, you'd think Shepard's LI dying would mean more, but I have to admit, the tought worries me.
