Woo hoo!

I was afraid my computer was dead for good. Which, I didn't mind sooo much....except for the fact that all of my artwork and photography is on my hard drive and I hadn't backed anything up!

So my boyfriend came over and fixed it for me (it was dusty....) and we went out and bought a 500 GB external drive for me to back my stuff on...I've never been so scared!

Anywho....YEAY THANE!

Ugh yea I had that happen last semester with my desktop.  Unfortunately I hadn't backed up my English paper....that sucked.  The external hard drive is definitely a good investment if you keep a lot of important stuff on your comp.  I'm happy to hear you got it fixed and all your art was safe.

And I second the YEAY THANE!!

On the subject of Drell in general though (sorry if someone's already asked and I missed it), there is mention of
"one unique characteristic is the hyoid bone in their throats, which allows them to inflate their throats and produce vocal sounds outside of the human range."

Link to Bioware's site on the topic of Drell

This makes me wonder two things: how that looks (I have a hard time picturing anything but a frog here) and what type of sounds do they make using this... technique?

I have wondered this myself.  And yea, all I can think of is a frog too.  I guess technically being human we wouldn't ever be able to hear the sound they can make, at least as I understand it.  Still doesn't stop me from wondering what it sounds like though.

Nah its not stupidity.  I just think generally it isn't something we'd think about UNTIL something happens to the computer....then it's like....OH! I think I better use travel drive more often!

It's like buying the fish in ME2 and then realizing you have to feed them after you find them dead....well they won't die in my game again :D

I love Thane, he is probably my favorite party member in any RPG I've ever played. Granted I haven't played many of the FF games and never played the first Baldur's Gate, but still. I would love for him to be back in ME3.

I actually think of many common reptiles who have brightly colored underthroats that can inflate at will. Granted most of these displays are purely visual and don't involve sounds of any kind.

And yeah, we wouldn't be able to hear the noise drell can generate. I wonder if it's on the low or high spectrum?

I'm pretty interested in their live birthing and chambered hearts. It's interesting how their largely reptilian traits are balanced by small smatterings of mammalian ones.

Hm, that's true. I think I've seen other reptiles do that too now that you mention it... However, I'm not as
curious about what it sounds like as to what the purpose of these sounds is as they obviously are able to
communicate verbally too.

Yes, the live birthing sets them apart from reptiles as we know them (I'm not an expert but I assume all reptiles
lay eggs).  I wonder what the reason for this is, I think I saw somewhere that Salarians lay eggs so it wouldn't be
all that strange if Drell did too. Maybe it's because of the "designed for the ladies" thing, I don't know.

I for one would like the idea to be able to save Thane. He is one of my fave chars and i love him. Have romanced him and i think its a good story, but i dont think it would change him if u save the guy. Its not like he would stop being himself cuz hes not dying anymore. How many ppl would change just beacuse of that..? What i liked about Thane was his personality and voice. Hes an assasin but he also cares and seem to be a warm person.

I always have Thane and Garrus with me on every mission.. when i can only bring one of em... thats the hard part :P

There's a few snakes that give birth to live young, although they are eggs at the start. At least that's how I guess Drell work.

Regarding Thane, its only when you romance him that he starts to "live" again. Some people never get to see that change and assume it'd change him if he was cured. That change already happens when you're romancing him basically.

Still, don't want a super mega cure that pops out from nowhere, god no. :P

I don't think there are many people who want an instant cure.  I think, and I think its been said a few times here, that it would be cool to link the cure to a loaded romance.  If you romanced him in ME2 and load that save to ME3 then we should get a choice to cure him.  Because, yea, only when you romance him does he start to "live" again and actually becomes afraid to die.  Tell you what though, if they do link the cure to the romance in ME2 there would be no need for me to make a faithful play through with Kaidan!!   Like I'd ever load it at that point.

I think this would be a good idea as some people just don't like the idea of him living (cause they're crazy or something, I don't now.) So I think this would give us Thane lovers the chance to cure him, while those who don't want him cured don't have to cure him (but why would you let a team mate die when you have the choice to cure them?)

Baaaahahahaha! Sorry. Random bursts of laughter.

Perhaps we could have an optional quest to take Mordin to collect rare and valuable data to complete the Hanar research or something like that.

Definitely don't want such an awesome character to just die on us. He better be in the third game! :)

Yeah, something like that. I kinda
want it to be a diffiult quest or something that spans the story of the
game. Like, oh, if you're going to this planet, pick such and such up,
and if you're going down there, make sure you get one of those.

Or something.
