Actually, the reason TIM didn't include Kai Leng in Shepard's team is most likely because Leng was in the middle of a mission already (searching for Paul Grayson). So Kai Leng wasn't an option for TIM, as he was basically unavailable.

Below is a picture I trimmed from those GI scans. The picture is pretty self-explanatory. I think this is indeed Kai Leng doing his dirty work in ME3:

Another one, with his appearance visible:

Incidentally, his appearance in the second image more or less fits the description from Retribution.

Really? In that case awesome! A Kai/Thane showdown is necessary then!

And Thane's biotics will definately give him the upper hand.

Besides, the fact that TIM got Thane on Shepard's team as opposed to Kai Leng says that he may be the better assassin. He was trained since the age of 8 after all. And if TIM didn't hand Kai Leng over to Shepard's team in favour of Thane...

You know, if Thane leapt to Shepard's defence when Kai Leng tries to kill him/her, then that would be ridiculously awesome. Let the showdown begin!

Nah, it was more of TIM needing Kai Leng by his side in case Shepard goes rogue. That, and the fact that he's a super-racist. Seriously, it's not even a Council/Ashley-being-wary type deal. It's stated in the books that he really, really hates aliens.

EDIT  FOR THE POST ABOVE:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o
HOLY-SHEP. I hope he does that in the middle of space travel! Evil Cerberus jockey or not, totally bad ass!

Thane has denser muscle tissue, making him stronger. Kai Leng is a freakin' cyborg.
Kai Leng uses knives (I think) while Thane uses his fists, but Thane has biotics.
Thane
was trained from a very young age, while Kai Leng had N7 training,
which could mean that Kai Leng possesses a stronger natural ability to
fight.

Not quite.  Unless I'm mistaken, Retribution takes place after the Suicide Mission.  Says so in the beginning pages of the book.  (I'll dig it out when the coffee kicks in.)

To bring this thread back on track :  A showdown between Thane and Kai Leng I could believe more than a showdown between Shepard and Kai Leng.

And what JEC said correct, Thane's LotSB dossier says increased physical activity and social interaction will help his condition.  Also, that Thane is an excellent candidate for transplantation but at the time, he'd turned down that option.

Yes, Kaimana, that's right. Retribution does take place after the events of ME2. HOWEVER, Cerberus had been on the hunt for Grayson ever since he disappeared at the end of Ascension (read: the year 2183). As such, it isn't a stretch to conclude that Kai Leng himself was searching for Grayson for three years, as he was the one TIM assigned for this job. He just happened to find him after ME2 in 2186.

True.  I guess I see the possible reason Kai Leng wasn't included for Shepard's team was more for his fanaticsm than being off somewhere else at the time.  It would have been interesting, had ReaperGrayson been able to have been 'turned' and Cerberus sending him / it after Shepard.  But all that is neither here nor there.

Because Thane is awesome.

Thane and Kai Leng would be great to see, but they will probably just have Shepad do it. I don't even know if Sheprad has any hand-to-hand combat skills. Maybe they will just have Shepard shoot him until his health runs down and he's dead. That doesn't sound like a lot of fun to me. If it is Shepard I hope it's good. I still think Thane would be better though.

Unfortunately, it will probably be Shepard, yes. I don't think Shepard could stand against an assassin like Kai Leng in a purely hand-to-hand combat scenario (Captain Anderson couldn't), but we will see.

Is tough for me to envision because in my head, Shepard is more of a weapons / tactical / command expert than a hand-to-hand fighter.  Maybe that's because I play an engineer mainly.  Or maybe that's because there was never really any emphasis put on hand-to-hand combat skills in the first place besides 'elbow of death'.  I mean, they even introduced Thane as a close-quarters, get-the-drop-on-you, neck snapping kind of guy and he runs around in the game with a sniper rifle and never snaps another neck after we first meet him.  (BW take note, more Thane snapping more necks in ME3.)

Also.

Image IPB

Probably my favorite pic.  If I could catch a snap of the ultra-rare Thane-smile, that would probably be my favorite pic over this though.

Can't stop laughing at the elbow of death.  Shepard does a little more in LotSB, but you still relied on Liara's biotics to take him down. You can punch a few people in the game like Kolyat ,Zaeed or that reporter, but that's about it. It probably is because they have never really put much emphasis on hand-to-hand combat. I play Vanguard , Sentinel and Adept so no real hand-to-hand combat needed . You will probably see one good scene of Kai Leng using those skills and then you will probably just have to shoot him.

I would love to see Thane fight Kai. Our shepard could be fighting Kai but (depending on what we do) Kai may get the upper hand in the fight when BAM! Thane comes in and kicks his metal ass XDD

I FUND THIS!!! BW DO IT!!

I proposed that theory in another thread last week. However, seeing as how Sanders is said to be an especially muscular guy, I doubt it.

Half of Kai Leng is made of metal. Seriously, I'm becoming more of a fan for this guy just by him being so bad ass.

I'm so glad that they didn't make the Drell the male equivalent of the Asari. I never really thought they were suppose to be, but I guess since Thane was created for the female gamer I can see how it would look that way at first.

I was quite shocked when I saw the first Thane drawings in a GI article (www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2010/02/09/drawing-mass-effect-the-creation-of-thane.aspx) last year. :pinched: And I really laughed about the female feedback on these drawings:

"we were thinking maybe Thane was like the perfect man. Maybe he had like this mannequin head, but he had this slight fuzz of hair, almost like a baby – with number one you can see it on his forehead. We kept messing around with this red mark that we thought might be his key feature. What we usually do is get feedback from some people at this point, and the women looked at these and went, ‘I'm not sure about that guy. He's got a giant red mark on his face and he’s creepy.’ And we were like, ‘what he looks cool.’ So we went back to the drawing board."

Oh, I wish I could thank these women! ^^

Wow, I hadn't actually seen any of them before. I can honestly say, I'm really glad we got the Thane we did. I wonder if he'll look any different in ME3.

Oh, and hello Thane thread! First time posting in here.

As a random, unconnected question, since I don't have my copy of ME2 with me to check. Can anyone tell me what the head for Thane's AAP costume looks like in the 'hazardous environments/space' areas? I recall he usually wears a mask, but I'm not certain how that would go with his shades.

I'm beyond glad we got the Thane we did.  <3   Ladies at Bioware / doing feedback for Thane, I owe you each a hug and a cookie.

After seeing the change they made to Garrus' armor for ME3, I'm super excited to see Thane's change.  Blah, who am I kidding, I'm on pins and needles just waiting for any Thane in ME3 info.

As for Thane's AAP outfit, is just his usual mask that he normally wears instead of the shades.  Goes well with the red / black color scheme.  I can probably dig up a screenshot.

And hi and welcome Eudae, Hells and anyone else I've missed!

And there's proof windows are structural weakness...

Impressive that a single man can break a glass that's supposed to resist the harsh conditions in space, plus FTL speeds... maybe TIM put a "Break in case of emergency" button outside the hull

It would make sense to see a battle between this Kai Leng and Thane, but since you play as Shepard I doubt they are going to put a cinematic for it.... may be something along the lines of Liara and the Shadow Broker, you both figth him, but Liara does that special attack that ensures victory.

...that could be interesting, specially if they add some necksnap in it

Thanks, and thanks for the quick response. I always feel a bit odd taking Thane into deep space due to his exposed chest, but I really dislike his AAP shades, so I was wondering if they got replaced. Nice to know! =)

I'm sure Thane will be back in ME3, I'm just not sure under what capacity. I hope he's a squaddie, though.
