Good news that he'll be in the game.
Don't like that the realease date was pushed back, however.
I just hope there aren't any serious conseuqneces for so-called "cheating", such as both characters being unhappy with you.
That'd suck.
It's great news, and makes me so happy. I'm still wondering what they are going to do with him in ME3. While I'm not always a patient person I don't mind that it has been pushed back until 2012. Hopefully that means a much better game for us.
There shouldn't be any real serious consequences. I really hate that they called it cheating. I consider it moving on. Some people have an issue with Shepard moving on so quickly. To me it depends on your Shepard I guess. The one that moved on from Kaidan to Thane didn't really think her relationship with Kaidan was that serious. I don't think they had a lot of time together anyway.
Maybe the the consequence will be that the old LI will be a little upset with you. Maybe they won't even talk to you. Other than that I don't think it will be anything to terrible. I do find myself looking forward to seeing what happens when they meet. I don't think there will be any kind of fight, but I think it will be interesting.
While I did think Kaidans romance was nice, one of the main reasons I chose him was because he was the only option. After the first two playthroughs I found myself wishing they had given us more options. I was thrilled when I saw that we had three in ME2, and I knew that I would be going for Thane. I really liked what I saw, and I loved the trailers of him. After I did the romance with him the first time, and was able to talk to him that was it for me. Thane was what I wanted for my Shepards and there was no going back.
I agree that the "consequences" might not be as severe as some imagine. I don't think Bioware is out to punish, but to make things interesting (call me an optimist?). I do wonder, strange as it seems, if they will account for the choice not to consummate the LI relationship in ME1. You can avoid the romance scene depending on the dialog choice, I hope this is also going to be factored in to the ME3 LI conflict.
I also romanced Kaidan in ME1 because there was no other choice for a hetero-femshep, but partially because I wasn't paying too much attention to the dialog and discovered that I'd unwittingly entered into the romance. At the end during the final romance scene my femshep turned Kaidan down to avoid consummating a relationship she really didn't want. Talk about dodging a bullet...
Since my femshep narrowly escaped the roll in the hay with Kaidan, I kept an eye out for dialog changes in me2, but it seems whether you consummated or not, the dialog seems to imply that you did the deed anyway? Ick... Not that Kaidan wasn't cute, but just vacant of that critical mass that makes one swoon/commit....
So from the looks of what we're being told about having more than one LI across two games, it there will be some sort of Kaidan/Thane confrontation at the end, I REALLY hope that my femshep's choice NOT TO sleep with Kaidan (even though she *technically* romanced him) will have SOME sort of effect on the dialog...
I rolled another femshep that goes romanceless in ME1 as insurance.
