Liara is a LI's and she joins Shepard at the beginning, as far as we know. But she is also the new Shadow Broker... I guess she can count on Feron to keep things in check while she is away, but it would be reasonable - story wise - for her not to be a full-time squad member.... that increases the possibilities that other LI's won't either....
But! If we take into account that this a story driven game, the story arc for Shepard's romance can't be properly finished if his/her LI isn't around....
But! this is no dating SIMs, so that whole aspect of Shepard's story arc may be totally overlooked... and it isn't as if Bioware hasn't downplayed our roleplaying possibilities before...( sole survivor that met Toombs in ME anyone? <_< )

With that in mind the fact that Liara is to be part of the squad could bode well for return of other LI characters who don't have such good reasons to be absent.
It's not a dating sim but we've all invested in the characters and it is this investment that (for me) has made the games so compelling, when that aspect is removed (arrival) I enjoy the experience far less and am less inclined to replay. Bioware aim to make their games as enjoyable as possible so my hopes remain high for all LIs being available as squadmates.

That was a good question Fiery, and I love the fact that he has a girlfriend who romanced Thane.

I don't think that any of the LIs have better reasons to *not* be part of the squad than Liara. The role of the shadowbroker has always seemed quite crucial so I wonder how this will be explained.

This a thousand times. Having someone that I truly like that I am involved with while we fight to save the galaxy is what sold me COMPLETELY to ME. If you take it away, you've taken the heart of the game away.

And I have always thought that it wouldn't make much sense (story wise) for Liara to be a full time squaddie as the SB. I know she is popular with her fanbase and the lead writer of the game, but it makes far more story sense for those with few commitments (like Thane) to be a full time squaddie than a SB of the entire galaxy.

I still hope for full squadmate status on Thane. *puppy eyes*

"Love interests won't all necessarily be permanent squad members in #ME3 . Interesting new things happening in that area."
I am really really concerned, though I'll try to stay as optimistic as I can.

"Yes, our plans evolve over time, and are guided by your feedback. Interviews are often from earlier stages of development."
Seems they do read the forums and take fan feedback really seriously. Which is good,I guess, as long as "Thane is ill hence he should die" isn't among them.

I wouldn't call it interesting, closer to a dilemma :/Aello87 wrote...

Though I think it's more of an excuse to push certain less liked characters out of the loop like Jacob but with a more smoother move than outright killing or pulling him out. Problem is, Casey said "interests" in plural
I think BW is smart enough not to pay heed to the people who criticise their work.Aello87 wrote...

Worried about how they handle the same sex romance. I don't want to be thrown into a romance without knowing it. >.<
Anyway, back to Thane. Thane, better pop back with no shirt to make up for not being on the ship if he isn't XDDD.

I will admit, I am worried about that, too. I don't want to accidently romance a female with my female shepard like I almost did with Jack when I was just trying to be nice to her silly behind. I don't have ANY issues whatsoever with same sex couples, but my preference is men. I won't make any apologies for that and I don't wanna mess things up with Thane. Just wanted to be honest about how I feel on that. In general, I just want the options to remain easy to decipher so that you won't make that mistake.

Except for Thane and Garrus', they showed what dialogue intitated teh relationship XD
I just don't want this:
Thane: Shepard, I see you are getting friendly with Ashely.
If that happens, I'm pulling my hair XDD

Thane in particular has the whole history with his wife and having had a child with her.
Generally speaking, the romances with the female love interests to tend to be far more gender neutral.
I'm at least a little skeptical of their ability to maintain character continuity and possibly opening up pre-existing love interests to the other gender.
Not that it's impossible to do it well, but I haven't fully liked how Mass Effect has approached certain things.
Horizon being one example.
I think generally speaking, the romance triggers in ME2 were more obvious so I'm not too worried about accidentally romancing characters in ME3. In ME1 though, you really got to be careful.

To be honest..none of the currently existing male love interests would really fit for M/M imo. The reason is that literally all of them had history with women already and all of their romances are quite tailored to females/female Shepard in the dialog.

It could mean many things.
It could mean that not necessarily every LI is going to be available to everyone because some may have died on the suicide mission. Or unloyal squadmates, if they survived the mission, they might not be back because they believe Shepard failed them.
We can't say for sure yet.
But onto other things. There is a possibility that Thane may be bisexual in ME3! Any thoughts on the matter? I personally wonder if I would have chosen to continue playing MShep instead of FemShep if Thane was bi in ME2. I wonder if he is bi now...

Well, it seems that sexuality doesn't have any grounds with aliens. So, he could be and could be not. Doesn't really matter. But, in my case. Thane is is MY MAN and I'll leave it at that. *stands territorial next to Thane.*

Why is it the more I hear about ME3, the more worried I get for Thane? A lot of my initial optimism about him being back as a full-time squadmate was based on the hope that all love interests (at the very least) would be permanently rejoining Shep. Now that we know that isn't the case I feel a sense of hopelessness. lol Wanna bet Thane is one of the non-permanent ones? We know he's sick so that's going to be their excuse for sidlining him.
WHY U DO DIS, BIOWARE?!
I know I'm jumping to conclusions at this point, we don't really know anything for sure. I just can't help but feel discouraged by the news we've been hearing.

I will be so heartbroken if he isn't a full time quad member...( as will most of you, I am sure )
Maybe, just maybe, it's be alright if he wa son the ship full time...
We'd still lack his reactions or comments on certain missions, but it'd be betetr than having him for two missions only.
LIke, if it turns out he's not a full time squad member, I won't be happy if he's only there for, say, about as long as Liara was around for LoTSB.
I mean, Jack and Garrus have been confirmed as squad members, have they not? So that mean those who chose them a LI's will get a full, finished romance.
The fact that others might not ( this is not only limited to us ) just does not seem fair.
