Sister Helen, I recently also to compare these two letters. And I thought the same thing.

Sometimes, in conversation with Kaidan in ME1 seemed to me that he would say: "Yes, mom ". And Shepard stroked his head, put to bed and straightened the blanket. :innocent:

Oh dear lord, now I have to replay those scenes again.

I also brought Garrus onto Horizon with me.

Kaidan's tone in the Horizon conversation was pretty dismissive: "And you brought Garrus..."  I couldn't understand the reason for the tone, as we had all been on the same fireteam for fighting Saren and presumably he knew the guy was good with a gun.

(The Husband however believes, however, that since both Kaidan and Garrus tend to waffle a bit (blowing hot and cold) when it comes to Shepard,  the scene would entail the two gentlemen looking awkwardly at their feet and scratching their heads for a neutral conversation topic:

Kaidan:  Hey... Ah... I heard about you and Shepard...?
Garrus:  (drawn out) Yeah...  That was something.
Kaidan:  Are you still...?  No, that's okay. I don't want to know.
Garrus:  *cough* Err. Yes.  Well...  How about the C-Sec Catastrophes?  Think they have a run at the pennant?

I hacked my game so that I could take Thane and Garrus with my Shepard to Horizon. Thane didn't speak but, I thought it was an interesting sight to be seen. All three of them, meeting Kaidan with Sehpard. I did it so that I could make this...

Like we used too

My husband thought it was hilarious taking Thane to see the former, ie Kaidan. I have to admit, I laughed a lot while making that vid. :D It was so much fun.

Very nice video Gnas. I didn't even know that there was a way to get Thane that early in the game. I wish we could get him a lot sooner than we do.

You get the AWESOMENESS Award!  Wonderful video!  (It gave a real nostalgic feel to the Shepard-Kaidan relationship - which by the way, I detested when I ran that playthrough on ME1, so kudos to you, with all sincerity.)

Thane is so much better as a love interest than Kaidan.  Hell, Mess Sargeant Rupert Gardner would have been a better love interest than Kaidan; now there's a fellow who gets his hands dirty.

I did a edit to a saved game that was prior to Horizon. It allowed Thane to be available without doing his recruitment mission. Unfortunately, I couldn't take him on his recruitment mission. That would have been funny. I've done a complete reinstall on my desktop a few months back. I've been wanting to do more fly camera work for more fanvids but just haven't got the time. I have to reinstall ME2 and all my saved games.

Thanks. It was really fun to make. My first Shepard had no romance in ME, that's the one that went on to romance Thane. I did eventually make a Shepard, in the vid, that romanced Kaidan. Although, the romance wasn't that good. Kaidan is just too whinny for my taste.

I enjoy making fanvids for, mainly, me. I post them to youtube in case others want to see but, some of those songs were just too good and reminded me of Thane too much to not do a vid. I have a couple now that are complete and I need to render to post. I need more time in the day.

Yes, Thane is a man's man. If that makes sense? I can see Thane making sure Shepard's cared for, ie weapons are cleaned, loaded and ready, armor is in good condition. I can see him being a partner not just a... Kaidan. I was going to say something else but don't want to bash any other LI. That would be rude.

:D

Mess Sergent Gardner was nice, but I would never have him as an LI. Especially after finding out he only washes his hands sometimes.

I did enjoy Kaidans romance, but I did wish they had more options in ME1. I was happy when they gave us three in ME2. It did take me a while to decide to do the Garrus romance.

I knew was going to do Thane's romance the second I saw him. This was before I had even spoken to him. After I did the romance that was it. For me the romance gave me everthing I wanted for my Shepards. Only Thane could make me go back and play ME1 again. A game I really didn't want to play just so I could make a single Shepard for him.

So here is a question.
What is your favorite part of the romance or do you just love everything about it?

For me it's always been the moment when Shepard says, "Just friends huh? Well, it's a start." and Thane's response is, "A start? That's...intriguing. I will always be here to talk." His soft chuckle when he says the line, makes my knees go weak. Then again, when they hold hands, love that moment as well. XD

I love just about everything. And I'm already going back to ME1 and making a single Shepard for him.

I pretty much love the whole thing too, except for the fact that he's dying, but that's also what makes it so compelling, as shep gives him another reason to live (and hopefully a reason to fight for his life and ask the lovely genius Mordin to rustle up a cure for Keprals on his lunch break :D )

...I just can't think of a favourite Thane line, Keythe Farley has such a great voice and gets the tone so spot on that it's all fabulous.

What I like about Thane's romance?

I like how the romance starts.  I love how Thane challenges Shepard, not just on his recruitment mission, but verbally as well in later conversations.  I love how he says he doesn't need Shepard's help for his loyalty mission, but he wants it.  I love how he says he's unsure how to proceed when he has feelings for Shepard.  How their positions in the conversations change over the course of the game (distant at first to holding hands across the table).  And omgosh I love Thane's dry, subtle sense of humor and that elusive Thanesmile!  I love everything about the romance scene, everything.  How shaken up Thane is, how concerned Shepard looks.  Epic table fist punch!  I even have a place in my heart for the cheesy, 'be alive with me tonight' line.

There's so much that I like about the romance / relationship between Thane and Shepard.  I like that it's uncomplicated and feels organic to me.  They start out as two people with mututal respect for eachother and through conversations and actions their feelings for eachother grow and change.  And it's unquestionable at the end that Thane loves Shepard, not just from his LotSB letter, but I think the romance scene pretty much drives that point home.

I could go on and on.

Well, I was joking about Mess Sargeant Gardner -- I think he has a thing for Doctor Chakwas.  Shepard's always catching him leaning against the counter, staring across the room through the infirmary windows.

(I was NOT expecting to like the Thane character, since I saw the promo video that made the character a bit of an ass, in his interview stating that he was "an artist at death" or some such nonsense.)

In doing quests in new maps, I tend to take things slow - I prefer sniping from behind cover rather than charging into an unknown area.  So there's this scene where you enter one of the first hallways after taping up the injured salarian worker, and you overhear a few thugs talking somewhere above you... Then crash, boom, snick! and a body falls through a ceiling vent to drop to the floor in front of Shepard.

Seriously, this really happens. You miss it if you don't pause in the doorway or go into the room too quickly.

Dropping the body in front of Shepard was either: 1) professional courtesy - a sort of "yes, I know you're here; I am too..." or 2) a display of an odd sense of humor (a competition for number of bad guy kills?) Either way, I began to like the Thane character even before seeing him in the game for the first time. ... And throughout the recruitment quest, if the player takes it slow, you keep hearing traces and cues that Thane's nearby, just ahead or just above or just around the corner.

My favorite conversation was the one where Thane admits to femShep that she is the only friend he has made in 10 years, that there will be no one to mourn him when he dies.  Then there is that wonderful startled reaction that Thane has in response to femShep's "Just friends? *shrug* I guess it's a start."   Thane really had the best body language of all the love interests.

You really believed that he cared for femShep and that it was something beyond his experience, something he had not anticipated.  Yep, the guy definitely has possession of the Awesome Button.

@Sister Helen... of all the times I've played ME2 (which is many) I don't think I've ever seen that... always rushing to get Thane : P
I just started new PT with infiltrator so I'm going to creep slowly through Thane's recruitment this time :)

I know you were joking. It's just that everytime I see him on the Normandy that's all I can think about, and don't want my Shepard to touch his food. Besides I'm sure there is someone somewhere who would like to romance him.Image IPB

I had know idea that a body fell in front of Shepard until someone brought it up several pages back in this thread. Like you I'm always in such a hurry to get Thane that I missed it, but I got it on my next playthrough. Makes me wonder what else I may have missed.

I haven't played in a while, but I think there are usually voice cues (you overhear thugs talking above you or on a radio link, or around a corner) right before something happens.  I think there was another incident up a ramp after a radio cue and (maybe?) another one close to the bridge in the recruitment quest.  The thugs are talking about Thane and not Shepard when they say they hear something.

And of course, the salarian workers you keep finding in locked rooms is another example. Image IPB

I had that happen in my latest game. the two thugs are saying something like. "did you hear something.. you go in there. and then the other goes no..you go." one of them finely goes in and you here a choking sound and then. plop..dead body in front of you. lol

Each time I played his recruitment missions, I took my time. I remember seeing the guy fall down the vent but didn't think anything of it at the time. Since then, I realized that it was probably a message to Shepard. :)

Endless Love, as a fanvid song. Thoughts?

I believe the title of the song sounds very suitable for Shep and Thane :D

And I loved the aspect of Thane locking up the salarian workers to keep them safe. When I saw that, combined with his profile as a mysterious assassin, I was very... intrigued...

Not sure about Thane's.  But Ain't No Rest for the Wicked (by Cage the Elephant) may be a good one for Jack.
