Why keep Thane alive?

His son has the exact same character model, and is Raiden. Chop his arms off and he'll Overload you.

An interesting way to cure Thane would be to try and convince Kolyat to give his father one of his lungs. So far the disease is only in his lungs, at least as far as we know, and it could spread to other organs. So it would be interesting to have to convince Kolyat but to have to do it earlier in the game to prevent the disease from spreading to other areas and eventually it spreads and you can't save Thane. You would have to rebuild or mend the father son relationship, have good paragon/renegade, convince Thane it is the right thing to do, all within a limited time frame. Oooo and high risk so depending on the loyalty mission in ME2 does Kolyat survive the operation?? You would be taking one of his lungs!! hmmmmm I must think on this more. It would also give you a reason to bring Kolyat back into the game as more than just a "So how you been dude?"

......Just a thought I had earlier today and it seemed interesting to me.

It's a better story if Thane dies at the beginning of ME3 - it's more poignant, and it shows that even though you can save the universe (a couple of times) given sufficient weapons and attitude, you can't save the person who matters most from something as tiny as a bacteria or virus. It also emphasizes the whole "live for today-each moment is a gift" vibe you got from the femshep/Thane romance.

That being said, I'm a sucker for happy endings to the point where I never see movies that don't have them. I'd love for Thane to live, but I figure his death in ME3 is probably one of the payoffs for not having to make the Sophie's Choice in ME2 that you had to make in ME1 (Kaidan vs. Ashley's death).

God Bless Cutlass Jack!

Lol, Raiden's voice is indeed quite some smexy... though his nudey scene in the previous MGS sort of ruined his character for me.. that and he was gropped and mistaken for a lady! :P

We have commented on this in the thread.  Some opinions include the fact that Kolyat has absolutely none of the training that his dad (our smexy Thane!) has, not to mention that's the complete opposite of what his dad wants for him.

I agree with many of the posts in this thread and support a potential personal dilemma optional cure for our Thane.  Heck, if it were up to me I'd trade over Earth for a cure for my Thane... oh come on!  Humans had a good run and stuff.. :P

HAHAHAHAhAHA!!!!!:lol::lol::lol::lol:  oh Kalli that was just funny!  That would be a torn decision for me.  hmm Earth or Thane?:?  Earth is probably a polluted waste land by this time, and there is Mars and other planets to move to....

Maybe one could make a faustian deal with the reapers/collectors? I mean, they do research in other species and they have weird new technology. I would do it for Thane!!!

oh that would just be mean of the Devs lol.

If the choice was let Thane die or make a deal with the reapers, I don't know....Thane may have to die in my game then because I saw what the reapers did to Saren.  :?  It could be just a ploy to let your guard down and while the reapers are curing or saving Thane then BAM....Shepard is indoctrinated and pulling the mass relay trigger on the citadel and releases the whole reaper fleet into citadel space, then dies as they wipe everyone out, or worse they use Shepard to wipe everyone (s)he knew even Thane!!!! :o

Or maybe it would be more of a long term agreement? I mean, you are about to finish of the boss reaper, but then it/she/he says that if you spare it/her/his life, Thane will be cured, and then the reapers will promise not to come back, at least in Shepard and Thane's lifetime. If you can trust a reaper that isPosted Image

How come I didn't post anything in this thread yet? ))

To all who think making Thane die in ME3 would be 'realistic' and 'good for the story' I have to say the following:

Is saving all your squadmates in the final ME2 battle realistic? C'mon, it's the super dangerous suicide mission against the Collectors whose technology is more advanced then ours, not to mention their numbers. Wouldn't it be more dramatic, realistic and good story-wise for someone to die in the battle? 'Great victories come at a cost', '(s)he sacrificed (her)himself', 'rest in piece' and all that stuff. And yet, we have a chance to save everyone. So it seems just hypocritical and unfair to me to let Thane die because it's 'realistic' and 'good for the story'.

We want a CHOICE. Feel like dying Thane is more appropriate = don't cure him.

Have you actually looked at both of them in that scene together? Kolyat is definitely different from his father appearance-wise(ead shapes, noses, etc.) :P Also, Kolyat has zero combat skills like his (hot) dad. I wouldn't want a wannabe assassin instead of the real, highly skilled original - aka Thane. :P

Blasted computer, I've been away too long thanks to my failing hard-drive.
Hi guys!
Why keep Thane alive? Two words.. Hallucinogenic Effects. Plus he's intriguing in a way that's not totally emo like certain unnamed heroes or anti-heroes (*Cough*Starts with Seph).
And now I get the pleasure of replaying for a 3rd time since my drive got wiped. Ah well. Thane baby I'm coming for ya!

Perhaps not even a cure, but something that will stabilize his condition until the Hanar come up with a cure.

I mean, it's not like we have a genius xenobiologist Salarian with a fully equipped lab on board or something..

Don't forget Chakwas who seems to be no slouch in the Xenobiology department, either, considering her experience in ME1.

True! Get those two together, add an optional fact/resource/scientist finding mission, and we have a solution!

Exactly, go to three star systems in the back of beyond in the middle of nowhere, get these three rare ingredients and mix them CAREFULLY.  Voila!  You've just cured an entire species.

Why would the hanar cure the drell?  Wouldn't that limit the drell's dependancy on them?  But then, I'm seeing conspiracies everywhere in Mass Effect.

*chuckle* Between Cerberus, the Shadow Broker, and all the other official and non-official organizations, it is easy to get suspicious.

I guess from a utilitarian point of view, The Hanar engineering a cure would provide with longer-lived Drell to assist them, fewer of them leaving Kahje for more arid places, and double the gratitude debt.

I know all about homework  eck...<_<   At least yours is art, mine is writing papers using only primary source material.  Way interesting if it is Joan of Arc, not so interesting if it is on 19th century Mexico economy!!  Ugh I should have been an Art major :P

Anyway, I would be happy with just a treatment with Thane, something to prolong his life would be fine.  I don't want him to die before the end of ME3 really.  A cure would be super nice, but I would settle for a treatment of some kind.  So long as FemShep and Thane can see the end of the credits together I'll be happy I think.  And I'll throw the disk at the wall if I load my game and it says Thane died in between the games.......<_<  Or I'll cry really really bad :crying:  I haven't decided yet....maybe both.

put thane in cryo, just as sad, but without the dieing! he can come back, maybe at the end of the game or maybe he can just stay in a cryo pod in sheapards room, and she can take him out once in a while

The first thing that popped in my head when I read this was:
"A Thane-sicle?" and then my mind slid to the gutter fast.

I really should not read these before coffee, I just want a small Thane fix while waking up.

I was wondering what black hole had consumed you ^^ hope the homework goes quickly!

I was thinking a more interesting twist would be to make the choice of say discovering a species that could cure the drell, but meaning they'd perish in the process, or protecting them but the drell have to wait for a different cure. My mind is thinking of lots of evil plot twists lately.
