@Sable - it's definately a case of YMMV. I am glad that you liked it up to the Coup (and Rannoch), but I had problems with the game right out of the box.

You're absolutely right that there are problems with the game right out of the box.  The portrayal of Cerberus (and by extension Henry Lawson, TIM, and Miranda) is one of the things I hate most in ME3.  And the glitches, the journal system, the navigation, autodialogue...I could go on for hours.

Then again, I did play and enjoy DA2 out of the box, and that game gave Obsidian and Bethesda a run for their money in terms of game-breaking bugs.  IMO the story arcs during Palaven, Tuchanka, and Rannoch were good enough that they gave the first 2/3rds of the game some decent momentum, enough to push through all the suck.

But it's like using a car as a makeshift snowplow--at some point, there's enough suck that no amount of momentum helps.  I hit the metaphorical snowdrift at Thessia.  Some folks hit it earlier.  It all depends on how long the bright spots of the game can carry you.  And if you're romancing Thane, that's one fewer bright spot than folks who romanced an LI who actually got decent content.

If it weren't for Garrus, well, it would be bad...

One that note: Cold.Wet.N0se! You are neglecting me. Could you please cancel your RL and join us? LOL

btw, thinking of selling everything and moving in with you. Two adults, 2 dogs, the cat is optional.

Garrus is one of the few things they got right in ME3. And it makes me feel guilty that I happened to choose the right alternate LI (obvious choice being Liara) while a majority of others got shafted big time.

Other than runs for science, which really made me depressed (Thane and Jacob dead makes a playthrough make sense(!), I had to quite a semi Liara LI playthrough because I was getting ticked) I haven't touched ME3. I've been playing an oldie called Alpha Protocol. This is the type of game I wish they had male and female main characters.

I think I'll stick with adventure games for now. At least I get female characters sometimes, and I get stories that don't make me rage.

@mnomaha - Come on down!! (or up, as it were...heh!) I am sick right now, and when I haven't been sleeping, I have been playing Dragon's Dogma. I suck at it...HA! But I am strangely addicted to it, and the male PC I made is quite luscious. :) You also get to make a follower (cute little female elf mage) and recruit two more.

And Shell....good with you, the daughter AND all the animals (they can romp with my pug and two cats....and stare at a salt water fish tank). Course, you know you would also be stuck living with Rog too. ;)

@Roxy - sorry...never watched the show, but have heard good things. ;)

If any of you guys like strategy games, I got a recommendation for XCOM: Enemy Unknown from the Miri fans.  It is an awesome sci-fi turn-based strategy game, squad combat, with some RPG level-up mechanics.  It has the nice epic sci-fi feel I was hoping for from ME3.

I really liked season 1 of the show, but I have to say I much prefer the comics when it comes to later seasons.  The female characters in particular I thought got a bit derailed in the show.

@firel - might be might be. :) I live on the Eastside of PDX, relatively close in to downtown. I use to frequent Soutas Salt Water (in fact they got all my money on the start up of the tank), but it is never open when I go by there now....so now I mostly buy online (MarineDepot mostly). What type of tank do you have?

*EDIT***
BWAHAHAHA!  It actuall cencored salt[water....guess which part?!?!  stoopid censor mechanics. Posted ImagePosted Image

The new Monday Musings are up on the Cosmic Love site.  One qualifying remark to my fellow Thanemancers: the subject is meant to be viewed from all the aspects I typed up in the first paragraph.  I still believe (as you all well know), that our choices to romance Thane and help him succeed in his LM should have had an impact with his choices to actively pursue a life extention/cure.  And as for gameplay, having to complete tasks to have Thane's choices take affect, is also more than fine.  I consider that a gameplay mechanic, something a bit different from what I was describing.  Bah! I should just stop writing.  I'm not sure I am making sense....it makes sense in my head....does that count??Posted Image

@ Coldi I agree with what you said in your last post! I mean you'd figure after helping him with his LM it would all be positive after that...which is is to a certain extent,if you romanced Thane..it's better but then in ME3...you have no control or options for where you want the relationship to go,or be able to have a chance to cure thane..it was all taken out of our hands! It was made up for us...which is where BW screwed up BIG Time! I hope what I'm saying is making sense and I didn't misunderstand what you said earlier lol!

Oh and I think you would like "The Walking Dead" Coldi,it's good show and a good story to it! ^^

@Sable I can understand what your saying...I still like the show,it's really addictive lol!

I liked the DA NPCs.  Your relationship with them colored their perspectives, but they're still their own people. IMO no PC, no matter how badass or magnetic, should be able to change the fundamental character of an NPC, at least not short of something really drastic like demonic possession.  For example, if you romance or become friends with Morrigan, she's much warmer and more emotional.  But she's still Morrigan.  She still leaves no matter what.  And don't even get me started on bat**** Anders whom I can't seem to quit.

I think Mass Effect went too far in making your LIs easily influenced.  Garrus is my favorite LI ever, but god, he's such a doormat for Shep in ME1 and ME2.  That's the one element of his relationship that I really did not like.

And in laughable news...Skyrim cleaned up at the Golden Joystick awards while bioware only got a runner up position for the Tuchanka Choice, Top Gaming Moment category.

Guess we're not the only unsatisfied people.

@Sable - that was exactly what I was trying to impress upon, but damn, if my thoughts to keyboard didn't just go completely kaflooey (it's a word...maybe *smirk*).

@Roxy - Hmmm...maybe I will take a peek at the show then. ;)

@mnomaha - lol why you make me giggle so.... :D

I thought your thoughts made sense, both of you. And I do believe kaflooey is a word. Hong Kong Phooey used it...maybe.

Also, if Briana doesn't pass her next exam, she is out of her Midwifery course and we will be moving back. Probably.

I like Walking Dead, but I found it a very hard show to watch. I think I went 4 or 5 months with the last half of Season 2 on my DVR before I could finally sit down and watch it. I think it's just so bleak that I it takes a lot of mental energy to watch an episode. Kinda like ME3, where everything is so bleak and hopeless. I'm still stuck on my 2nd playthrough of ME3, somewhere before the Cerberus Coup.

Planning to make cinnamon rolls this weekend. Wish I could pass out some to make you feel better, Coldi.

Finally got back into my DA:O playthrough, thanks to Coldi's tactics help! I also picked up Alpha Protocol and Assassin's Creed 2 last weekend. Planning to romance Zev in this playthrough. I see a pattern of assassins lately.

@Annie Haha that's a cute and funny pic of Thane plushie! ^^

@ Askeebe watch out they already have a thread in ME3 Story and discussions (Spoilers allowed) that AC:3 copied ME3 ending and it's a horrible ending. They even had a link in that thread and I watched it...it is bad.

So what the hell is up with these writers? I don't think bad endings are gonna make people happy and gonna get you any fans..it's just gonna drive people away!

@Coldi I hope you get to feeling better! ♥

I like it. Some of the mechanics can be irritating (It's no Deus Ex: HR when it comes to stealth) but I love the way the game changes when you vary your dialog and mission choices. I'm on a third play right now.

AP did need a bit of polish, and I would love to have a female to play as, but Obsidian did pretty good. If you get it for the PC visit the Mod thread on the Obsidian boards. The mods they did helped balance the game out.

On topic: I was just thinking about how ME3 has made me leery about games with female characters to play as.

I thought I had finally found a serious that takes me as female gamer seriously and gives me equal choices compared to guys. ME3 blow that confidence out of the water.

Take Jacob and Thane. femShep did not deserve to have her choices (and a majority of the hetero choices) taken from her. But on another level, if they were taken away, a lot could have been done to mitigate the lost.

Take Jacob for instance. If he was going to be a cheater, big fat warning signals should have been in ME2 to warn the player. Like walking up to him an catching him chatting up a girl on a holovid. Miri intercepting a e-mail talking about his conquests. Then in ME3 you could have gotten more evidence and when the Bynn thing comes down, allow Shepard to rip him apart renegade and paragon wise. Paragon could have said they believed in him despite the warning and he let her down. Renegade could punch or shot him. But all this comes down towards the end of the game and you get an appropriate achievement for it.

For Thane, if he just had to die (rolls eyes) he should have either succumbed to the disease, or died protecting femShep, Koylat, or the hanar ambassador. femShep would have been able to talk to him, instead of about the VS. And the death, like Jacob's cheating, would have happened maybe three quarters into the game.

After the death, crew would have offered consolances for losing a friend and squadmate to Shep. Edi might ask if Shep wants to move on, to which the player could choose to go after another LI. If not, Shep gets recordings from Thane going over their time together.

So, while femShep doesn't get s "happy" ending, she does get a fleshed out story with her LI. It's the least they could have done to mitigate shortchanging femShep's choices.

Hm, okay thanks Dine. And all excellent points.

As for this playthrough, since it's Garrus, I'll probably draw a breath at the end, but I plan on being an absolute douchebag to everybody else. ;)

I'm worried about Tentura, if anybody knows her RL phone number, please call. I've emailed and instant messaged, but understand it would be hard for either.
