LOL Giftfish....Zevran wouldn't be caught dead around our Pearl District...too uptight and cleanPosted Image.

Oh, I  totally agree.  Way too hoity-toity for him.  My point, was that if he was in The Pearl, he would be in a burlesque joint.

If Zev was in downtown Portland, I think he'd be south of Burnside.  If we're talking the whole city, I might say the northwest side, across teh river from Forest Park.

And....zomg you live in Laurelhurst?  Love that area of town.  Sellwood too.  Though, the houses are still a bit close together for my taste.  Hollywood is nice, also.  Haywood is a bit too busy, but still cute. You are only 10 minutes or so from Tin Shed.  Potato cakes...YUM!

I will send you some stuff (via email...*grin*). Clackamas is not "bad", but there are some less than pretty aspects about it. Just like in any neighborhood you can find good points and bad points. My biggest complaint about Clackamas (and the Beaverton/Aloha/Hillsboro area would also fall into this), is that it becomes more "suburban" less city.

@mnohama -- We lived in Beaverton for 6 months while on a job assignment, and we also lived out in Clackamas county for 3 months.  The Portland area is on our list of places we might want to relocate to (my husband is from there), so, here's some additional input from our end:

1. Portland has a tremendous amount of sprawl.  It's not as bad as Atlanta, but driving around the city and associated burbs takes time.   There is a LOT of traffic.   There is also fantastic public transportation.

2. I'd avoid the Beaverton area.  The traffic is horrible, and the population density is much higher than in the city of of Portland.  The West Slope area of Portland is nicer, though (which is nearby).

3. Commuting from Aloha or Hillsboro to the downtown area in rush hour traffic can take 45-60 minutes.  That stretch of Sunset Highway also has lots of accidents due to the amount of traffic.

4. Clackamas county has some beautiful wooded areas and homes.  But, the further out you are, the longer the commute.

5. Portland itself is VERY liberal, but once you move out of Portland, the state of Orgeon rapidly turns exceedingly conservative, and quite, well..."redneck".  If you stay along the I-5 corridor and along the coast you are mostly fine.

6. West Linn is a nice part of town.  It's close to the city, but isn't as densely populated.   And the houses aren't as expensive as in Lake Oswego.

7. Oregon City is probably as far out as you'd want to get.  From there a commute to OHSU (for example) in rush hour is ahout 20-30 mintues.  I  know they were going to do something about bridge construction back when we left, so I'm not quite sure where things are with that.

8. The Alberta neighborhood of Portland was going through revitalization when we were there.  It can still be a bit sketchy, but there are some great shops, and housing there is cheaper than much of the rest of the city.

9. It will rain in Portland from basically from November through April. 40-45 degree highs, very overcast, gray, rainy days.  For 6 months.  Sometimes longer.  Depending on what you grew up with, it can be very  hard to get used to.

If I  can think of anymore, I'll post them :)

Hey guys! :)

I've missed the discussions about our favorite drell. Glad to see so many of you are still around. <3

@Julia - JULIA!! Hey lady...how you been? I have missed your very eloquent rants. I am only level 23 right now, in DD (Magick Archer) and my pawn is a mage (just about to promote her to Sorcerer). I really do stink at the game, but I still enjoy it. Go figure. XD If you have any tips or tricks to "not sucking", please feel free to school me. hehe! And, if you ever want to try out my Pawn, let me know. Course, we are not that high level wise, so you may not be interested on actually fighting with her. Though, I think I have done a better job building her, than I have my own PC. You could just take her around town, for fun....a show, maybe drinks or dinner. *gafaw!* Welcome back, chica!

@JECW - I hear you on Omega, but the likelyhood of even visiting that station outside of ME2 is pretty slim for me. Kind of sad. *sigh*

I wasn't so great at the game when I started, either. Dragon's Dogma is the kind of game that's really difficult in the beginning but as you level up it gets much easier. Enemies do not level scale with you.

It helps to be prepared and have a balanced party. For instance, if you know you're going to be up against undead it's helpful to have a mage/sorceror in your party that can grant you holy boon/holy affinity or fire boon/fire affinity. If you're going to be up against a golem/metal golem keep in mind they're practically immune to magic so you or one of your pawns need to be capable of inflicting physical damage. With phantoms, it's the opposite, since magic is the only thing that can damage them unless they're posessing someone in your party. Once you become aware of this stuff the game becomes much easier in my experience. Always carry some potent greenwarish for healing and large mushrooms to regain stamina (leave some in your pawns inventory and they will use it when they need to)! Take up as many board quests as you can from Cassardis, the encampment, the Inn in Gran Soren or from the Pawn Guild in Gran Soren. They're fairly simple kill x amount of creatures type of quests which can earn you decent amount of gold if you're low on funds.

If there's someone on your friend list with a higher level pawn you can rent them for free. I would offer up my own pawn to help you but I'm on the xbox. :(

Okay, I love that flippin' Drell! (both Thane and the picture of Thane's second cousin, once removed) :D
I take it that is a picture from me3 MP? I would assume so, since I don't recognize the area.

Thank you @Julia for those tips. I did read about the Golems. I think my arrows from Magick Bow deal physical damamge, and only add magical damage if imbued by my pawn. I love the "seeking" feature of the those bows (since I'm not so good at aiming).

DD has caused an interruption with my Chase Shepard play through in ME2 (import from ME1). I'm ok with that though....I just got to Thane's LM, and I proceeded to abuse the save right after talking to mouse. Trying out all the different ways I can resolve that mission (I admit, I had gotten in a rut; always choosing the same path in that mission). The differences are small, but they are fun. I think I might even go back further, gain a bit more Rivalry to unlock the "I'm a Spectre" option on the dialogue wheel. I think Thane's response is something like, " That may go down in history as the shortest interrogation ever." :D

@mnomaha - Yes! It is! When I first looked at the picture, it looked like he was bowling over a Cerberus soldier. After you suggested the ME2 trailer, I looked at it again, and it IS a Collector. So I change my statement I LOVE that Flippin' Thane!! :D :D

*joins Shell at the coffee pot, since she apparently needs more.*

@giftfish - nice layout of the Portland area. :) One correction is Hawthorne district. Nice area, but as you said; very busy and a bit pricey. And your not wrong about the I5 corridor; it is generally the most liberal of the state. There are exceptions though; the coastal towns often have a more liberal viewpoint, and Bend, OR as well. As I revealed earlier, I'm a moderate. If anything, politically speaking, I don't fit here terribly well. HA! Or maybe that means I can get along with liberals and conservatives alike....I dunno! ;)

@Askabee - So glad to read that you got a chance to spend time in the Gorge; my absolutely favorite place. I love hiking and biking, and that region is great for both. And you are right...it is so strange how abrupt the geography becomes once you hit the Dalles area in the Gorge. It goes from heavy forest, waterfalls, craggy rocks, to plateau/steppes. :)

@coldwetn0se I, too, am planning to try different options in Thane's loyalty mission in my current playthrough (in which I, for the first time, made femShep look like me. It's really weird, she looks like me but also like Shepard and she kinda looks too young to be an experienced soldier ). I want to know what happens if I don't take the indimitate/charm option with Mouse. I'd also like to try and fail Thane's loyalty just to see what he has to say afterwards. But... I don't know if I can do it, even if I reload right after it. :crying: It would be heart-breaking to see Thane lose his son...

I had two imports for the same Shep for ME3--one where everyone lives, and one where Thane, Zaeed, and Jacob die.  So I've already done the mission and lost Thane's loyalty--it's pretty heartbreaking.  He turns really cold and isolated afterwards.

Here's the thing--I'll probably like ME3 better without Thane and Jacob's travesty of a role in it, so if I ever replay the game modded, I'll probably import the playthrough where they're both dead.

Butt shots FTW!!! \\o/ XD

@Dragonslayer - The first time I ever played ME2 blind with my Abel Shepard, I failed the LM (I couldn't figure out where to go on that DAMN catwalk...hehe). It was heart breaking and I was playing dudeShep so romance wasn't even an issue. Needless to say, I went back and redid it. I figured I never need to have that happen again. My poor Abel...he made sooo many mistakes. >.<

@Beanie - YAY! Thane pics....never enough! And BTW; I love Vancouver. You move there, Shell moves here (gift moves back), then all us PNWsters get together. Sound good?? :D

@Sable - I think Dineboo gibbed out Thane and Jacob for a "Science" run through of me3. She really felt it flowed better story wise. That made me even more sad. That's how little they meant. :'(

I can't decide if that's good to know or just plain depressing.  A little bit of both, I guess.  Now if only I could find some way to murder Kai Leng too so he never existed.

I actually feel a little bad for Kai Leng in a meta sense.  He's a pretty decent character in Retribution.  Not subtle or tactical like Thane, but a capable and nicely brutal villain who wouild never employ the stupid grandstanding they had him do in Deception and ME3.

Yeah, I did a science run through of Thane and Jacob gibbed out. And it really is depressing that the story flows better with them gone. Though it's maddening that no one even talked about Jacob or Thane (though I stopped playing after the Geth/Quarian conflict).

First, and most importantly, the whole scene with TrollNinja, Shep, and the Salarian conciliar? Makes perfect sense. There's no drawn out battle if you have Kirrahe alive. TrollNinja takes the shot, but is stopped by a cloaked Kirrahe. There's no one standing around not taking shots like they do the Thane fight. And it's quick, to show that Shepard really couldn't do anything.

The worst part about it? Shepard has more of an emotional response to Kirrahe than Thane. Granted I don't have a romanced Thane to try it, but Shep was so cold with a loyal Thane when I had him alive. Kirrahe's death is miles better.

With Jacob, there's a generic black guy scientist that takes Jacob's place. But you know what's funny? Everything about the scene, from Jacob looking concerned when that lady got shot, to running, shooting, then getting shot himself, is copied directly for the standin! Which is why Jacob didn't use his biotics!

When we get to Brynn she doesn't seem as ****y with Jacob dead than alive. And Brynn helping the scientist just makes sense than Jacob randomly protecting them.

What sucks about all of this is that the story works with them dead. And that no one mentions them at all. If you didn't have their names on the memorial wall, it's like they didn't exist in the ME3 universal at all. :(

It's very depressing, and I stopped that run and my attempt at BroShep. But I will say I like BroShep with Kaidan. Kaidan is not as clingy/needy to me with broShep than with femShep. He was maddening when my femShep was with Garrus. I kinda want to try a Tali run, but I'll just get ticked off like my brief attempt with Liara. That runthorugh didn't make it off Mars.

Not really shocking. Although I'm not too fond of the idea either because playing as a drell vanguard with a sniper and no charge would get me constantly kicked, even outside the lobbies. xD

Not meaning it as an arguement, havn't even read the thread. :P But from what I've learned in MP, people have zero tolerance.

Sniper drell makes me miss Thane though.

I even dreamt about ME and Thane last night. And Thane died EVEN in the dream. -.-

Hiya everyone!

RL threw me one big monkey wrench last week; school exam, family matters, and to top things off, one of my computer's SATA cables went belly up and had to be replaced. Gn. Bleh.

At any rate, I've missed you fellow drellickers!

And I'm a bit late for this topic but....

re: Male/Female flings

Hm, I seem to have a vague memory that there was supposed to be a male counterpart to Kelly back in ME2...Kenneth?

And I agree on straight Male-Shep being favored, a list of straight Male-Shep's "priviliges":

A) Never loses an LI by force.
B) Has straight flings; Sha'ira, Kelly and Diana.
C) Female NPC's flirt with him; Shiala, Parasini.
D) Is 100% guaranteed to have one straight female option available in ME3; Liara.
E) Miranda and Jack grants Paramour Achievment in ME3.

And Fem-Shep's situation:

A) Loses Thane and Jacob in ME3.
B) None, no straight ones anyway.
C) None in ME1 & ME2. In ME3, James flirts but it never becomes anything beyond that.
D) Kaidan can die on Virmire, Thane and Jacob get scrapped, Garrus is not available unless he was already romanced. All of them can die prior to ME3, leaving no male option for Fem-Shep.
E) Thane and Jacob does not grant the Paramour Achievment in ME3.

Sexist? Yep.

@coldi or giftfish

Because of the aformentioned "monkey wrenches", I haven't finished my Jacob piece yet, I hope that I'll be able to finish it this week, so long as RL doesn't kick me in the teeth again. :/

@Nerana

ME3 cant escape us, even when we sleep! D:

Ugh. My mood would have been soured had I experienced such a dream. And then I'd wave my magic headcanon wand to make things right. It is immune to ME3 plot phail and character assassinations. Instead, plenty of hallucinations and <ridges>. As it should be.

And I kind of want to give ME3 MP a go but...I don't have Xbox gold, and the only TV that's close enough to the ADSL router is an old SDTV; ME3's subtitles/text would be inelligible on it. Plus, my extreme myopia and astigmatism wouldn't help in that regard :(

*Sigh* Maybe if I found a cheap Wifi connector for the Xbox...but for now, "No MP for Emeraldfern."

P.S

Oh, I will give an update on mum's PT later; A bit too busy to write it all down atm. A lot has happened, more LMs been done, discussing vacation plans to deserts, medical advice on interspecies relationships, salarians singing, awkward dress poses, discussing turian sparring matches...well basically a lot has happened in that PT.

@Emerald -- No worries on the Jacob piece, we actually have a lot of CS coming in right now, so we have plenty to keep us going.

Also, can't wait for the update on your Mom's PT!
