From what I can gather, he managed to:

A) Completely skip certain cutscenes.
B) Edit one of the ending slides.
C) Edit one of the nameplates on the memorial wall.
D) Swap the 3d-models in an in-game cutscene.
E) Swapping audio. At least, "music" audio can be swapped.

That's not entirely true.  Fob didn't entirely cut out the Catalyst gameplay sequence--if you watch the videos, there's a skip where the screen goes black and you hear the final gunshot for Destroy.  That's apparently impossible ATM to get around.

Most of the work for the ME3EM was done in cinematics.  The only element that's in-engine was the memorial wall.  Here's the problem with fixing the Kai Leng fight--to the best of my understanding, that scene is in-engine.

What you could probably do is change the "firing" sequence of cutscenes so it played Kirrahe's instead, skip Thane's death scene in the way the Catalyst was skipped, dummy out the text of one of the random letters Shep gets to be a letter from Thane, and perform a model swap at the memorial wall.  It's far from perfect, but it does get around the critical issue of Thane's death.

As for cinematics, I think Fob said that thus far, he's only been able to delete or insert cinematics where the game "expects" cinematics to take place.  The ending, for example, is one long sequence of non-engine cinematics, and the ME3EM team was able to change and insert stuff.  Adding brand-new cinematics to places where there wasn't one already is something they haven't figured out yet.

Hm, I figured it was Farley, he posted a YT video on his FB with a comment saying he played one of the characters in the video (but Thane was not in it).

The only three candidates that it could be were either, Gryll (a vorcha), Adrien Victus, and Jondam Bau. Out of the three of them Victus fits the most. Iirc every Vorcha is played by Meer, and Jondam Bau doesn't fit.

@coldi

I dunno if you saw but your CS on Thane was mentioned Farley on FB. Huzzah!
(I also spied one of my 3d renders, even if I don't have FB myself heh)

@Sable

Ah, my bad.

Hm it makes sense. Certain cutscene parts would need triggers provided by gameplay, otherwise the next sequence won't fire.

I guess (again based on my limited understanding) it depends on what kind of cutscene is played.
I.e. pre-rendered stream or in-game render.

If there's no cutscene, no shot, no death scene, no name on the memorial wall, no flashback during the Catalyst sequence...can we really say he's still dead?  Maybe in some game script somewhere, but it's possible to mod the game so it never actually happens in-game.  The old endings are still buried in there somewhere with the EC installed--did they still happen if you only play and see the EC?

TBH I think it's better for us, the fans, to be proactive like the ME3EM guys were than to sit and wait for BioWare to fix things.

I get what your saying! I'm not saying that I'm against anybody making a mod like that. Posted Image

But doing a mod like that is just like putting a bandaid over a badly deep cut wound...it's not really fixing anything! And alot of people have been protesting about this for months about how we/Thane got treated! Who says we aren't being proactive? If I could make a mod like that I would but I don't know how,I'm sure the others would do the same to if they could.

If they just do a mod of this no deathscene of Thane...that's all it's gonna be...theres gonna be nothing else of Thane and he is still dead if BioWare doenst fix it. I'm not against anybody making a mod that fixes all that...If they do one I probably will download it...but I'll know that Thane is still gone...that's the problem.

I'm now thinking about sending Mr. Fob a pm to ask if they will do one for us...I wouldn't be surprised if they said no.....Posted Image

Like I said I'm not against what you are saying...I just feel a bit different about it.

Fair enough.  I meant more being proactive in terms of fixing the damn game.  If BioWare won't do it, or doesn't do it in a way people liked (ie; the EC keeping the Catalyst around when that was the focus of a lot of criticism), then the only recourse for Thane and Jacob is modding.

I get what you're saying, though.  The Catalyst plot crap never fails to spoil ME3 for me to at least some degree, though if I don't have to see it at all in my next playthrough, that might change.

Fob's been pretty awesome about answering questions and requests.  Even though it wasn't his preferred ending, he produced the MEHEM because people asked for it, and as a challenge for himself and the modding tools.  I'd say at the moment the endings are still the ME3Explorer team's priority since they affect everyone, but the tools are on the wiki for everyone to use and check out.

Egad, I'm sorry for the delay!

*Ehem*

Let's see what we've got this time:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Garrus LM

*We are searching for Fade, and besides Garrus we've got Thane on the squad, we reach the warehouse and meet up with the Volus*

Her: Wait...what? A volus? Er...dude you are so screwed. Like, you've got nothing on this trio. Pfft...Two Krogans are not going to save you.

Me: Nope. And would you look at that...the krogans were actually smart enough to just leave.

*We listen to this scared Volus confess that he is not Fade, but Harkin is*

Her: Wait...Harkin? That chauvinistic lowlife from ME1?

Me: The very one.

Her: If he tries to call Shepard "Princess" one more time, please tell me that Shepard punches him or something. Or better yet, gives him a kick in the nuts.

Me: Oh, you'll see.

Her: Well, we've got two teammates who'll make mincemeat out of Harkin. Try calling Shepard "Princess" when Thane is present.Anyway; Shepard's Crime-fighting trio, assemble! Harkin will be brought to justice! Go, go, go!

Me:...That sounded like a catchphrase from a 90's cartoon....

Her: Meh. Still, they're a diligent crime-fighting team! :3

*We keep going, and we reach the part with the two Ymir-mechs*

Her: Two big robots*? No match for "Shepard's Crime-fighting trio"™! Assemble!

Me: It still sounds like something from a 90's cartoon.

Her: Eh. 90's cartoons are better than most of the "modern" cartoons anyway. Besides, Shepard's Crime-fighting trio always stops the bad guys!

Me: Touché. And she's got a kickass team with her.

Her: Mmm. Yep. And for once, it's got a strong female lead who is not a Barbie doll that loves fashion, pink, and pop music, but rather, she is a protagonist because she is humanity's best operative in intergalactic space, defuses dangerous situations with both diplomacy and force. Plus, she falls for an enigmatic alien assassin, not a black haired Ken who turns his back on her, and then tries to apologize through a letter.

Me: Wait...did you just call Kaidan a "black haired Ken"?

Her: I think his face does resemble Ken in a sense.

Me: Hm idk...Still, hilarious comparison regardless. Dammit...now I've got this image of a Kaidan Ken floating around in my head....XD

Her: At any rate, I need some tea, and this trio has got their hands full dealing with two big-robots, so I'll make a quick detour to the kitchen. ^_^ **

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*/ Big robot = Ymir mech. She keeps forgetting the names of the enemies, so she substitutes them with her own.

**/ So, I kept fighting the mechs. And during the fight Thane got knocked out (despite my valiant efforts, he did not take cover when the second mech fired it's rocket)
"Meh" I thought, "oh well, I'll go up to the same perch where I tried to bunker down Thane." Then,  I used Unity, and seeing as how Shep's Widow was out of ammo I switched to an SMG and....awkward moment ensued. Turns out I'd bunkered down Shepard right in front of Thane, and when I stopped aiming I noticed that her head was on level with....Thane's crotch. XD He moved before mum got back though."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*We reach Harkin, Garrus kicks Harkin in the nuts*

Her: Oh, Garrus did it! Take that you chauvinistic, corrupt, pig!

*Garrus threatens to kill Harkin*

Her: Whoa, Whoa, simmer down Garrus!

*Paragon Interrupt*

Her: Phew. Harkin may be a slimeball, but downright executing him? Bad Garrus! "I didn't shoot him" Hey, there's the Garrus we love! :D

*We are going after Sidonis, since we are Paragon, and because mum is concerned about Garrus motivations we spare Sidonis*

Her: Woot! Shepard, you really are a true friend; looking out for Garrus since 2183! And since 2185, her squad of 11 people!

Me: Yep, Garrus BFF. A true space bro.

*We return to the Normandy for the Post-LM convo with Garrus. And uhm...Yes, I forgot to change Shepard's outfit. So awkward dress pose imminent*

Her: Ehrm...Shepard..her posture...that...that doesn't look uhm...

Me: Oh, crud I forgot....nvm. Yeah that is awkward I know, but it's a result of how the game is programmed more than it's a result of the writers.

Her: Oh good. For a moment there I was afraid we'd have an awkward "triangle moment" like in ME1. Because the way she posed...wow. Er save it for you "drell-charmer"! :P

*Garrus comments about how "Turians prepare for high-risk missions".*

Her: Oh, sparring. Hm...makes sense I guess, keeps their skills sharp too.

Me: Yep.

*The option "We could ease stress together" comes up*

Her: Hey, wouldn't that be epic? Garrus and Shepard fighting a friendly sparring match?

Me: So...you're picking that option?

Her: Well, yes! Epic sparring match!

*Garrus says: "I wasn't talking about sparring Commander."*

Her: O.o? Wait...what is he talking about then?

Me: Well, he did mention a "tie-breaker" didn't he?

Her: But I don't get...Oh my...Oh...uhm...uh-oh....what now?

Me: "Goodbye?" It is probably for the best in this case.

Her: Yes. Uhm. Sorry Garrus, didn't mean to string you along. :pinched: Not to mention Thane...is he going to be angry with Shepard?

Me: No. It was a misunderstanding after all. But no, the game doesn't actually register that as flirting with Garrus.

Her: Oh, good. But...this means...Garrus is a Love Interest like Thane isn't he?

Me: Indeed he is. ;)

Her: Oh, I must admit I am curious as to how that would play out.

Me: Another PT? I do have savegames from another PT.

Her: Yay!

Me: But I'm not showing them til we clear this PT. Ok?

Her: Works for me! ;)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In other words, yes, Thane is now officially Esmeralda* Shepard's LI!

*/ I know..."Esmeralda"...we were uninspired when it came to naming her.
Mum actually wanted to name her "Emerald" first. I thought that doesn't work as a proper first name (as an avatar name? Def. Works. As a given first name? Not so much imo) and instead I suggested Esmeralda which means emerald.Hence, Esmeralda Shepard.

Ah there, that's the update for now, since I gotta run (because school yay!. /jk) I'll be back later today with an update on Miranda & Samara's LMs.:wizard:

@Sable

Hm...You wouldn't happen to have a link for that wiki?

I don't know how much I can do mod-wise personally, but there is no harm in educating one's self regardless of skill. The only thing that can go wrong is making my ME3 PC edition a BFBVS.

Cinemodding thread

The thread OP should contain links to the wiki, Facebook page, and forums for the ME3EM and ME3Explorer tools.  I have no skill in this kind of stuff, so I figure the best way for me to help Fob and co. is to spread the word.  If any of you DO have programming, hacking, video/sound editing, or modeling skills, I'm sure they would appreciate the help.

As for your mom's playthrough, I'm also curious to see what she thinks of Garrus   But she seems like more of a Thane type.  You ARE going to tell her what happens before letting her play ME3, right?

I have a thought here guys.

Has anyone thought that the "We forgot he was an LI" a really convenient excuse regarding Thane? Like in, "We forgot, so deal with it"?

Take Jacob for example. In one of the recent threads about him in the ME3 story forum, someone posted that, when asked about his storyline at Pax, one of the writers said they didn't expect the reaction from fans regarding him hooking up with Brynn and knocking her up.

Jigga wha? How can they not expect any kind of reaction? Just because he wasn't well liked?

First, it would be like taking Garrus, who has been at your side all this time, then have him run off with the scout he mentioned in ME2. Then there was the rather unfortunate stereotypical points that they seemed to forget about.

So even though Jacob wasn't popular, there was enough to what they did to him to get a reaction.

Would they say they didn't expect any reactions if they did this Garrus? Or Tali? Nope.

Taking this back to Thane, it's almost a similar situation. It's expected that you accept the half hearted "apology" and deal. And when you take what they did to the Thane and Jacob fandoms, it's like they wanted sweep under the rug.

I mean, Thane's fans gets trolled and Jacob's get ingnored when wanting an explaination to why they went with that plot with him. Yet Miri and Jack gets fans tons of responses.

I just don't get why the unequality when it comes to responses. All ME2 LIs got shafted yet Jacob and Thane are the only ones that are supposed to deal? Of course there's going to be anger from fans, but Jacob and Thane fans aren't the only ones that were mad.

I don't get it.

Considering now that the romance/character romance has been shut down for who knows how long, it just seems like stronger evidence that they don't want us to discuss it. I don't think they shut it down for those that discussed the "popular" romances but rather to stop those of us who romanced the ME2 characters from complaining about it. (OK maybe they didn't but it sure feels like it sometimes and some people in there could be downright nasty, but all forums have that problem)

But that could be cause I have no faith at all in Bioware at the moment when it comes to the Male LIs or how they treat female players anymore. I had a long rant about that after here, but removed it cause I don't want this thread to get locked. :P

It seems Bioware like to say "we didn't expect this reaction". They said the exact same about the endings, not expecting people to react THAT much to the original endings.

We angry fans, whatever it is about Thane/Jacob, endings or anything else, aren't dangerous to them. We just got trolled.

If they REALLY forgot about it, they should do something about it. Not just "oh nevermind, none cares anyway." :( It's so disappointing I can't put words in it.

Frankly BioWare is in the crapper when it comes to their responses to their fans. And considering how they used to be that's bloody bad news for us. Frankly with that attitude I'm surprised they did an EC at all.

I know they want us to go away, but we're not going to. Hey? Hey BioWare, do you hear me? WE'RE NOT GOING AWAY!!! It's worse for us Thane fans because we are the ones who have the real experience in the central premise of the Thane romance: the slow demise death of a loved one due to events we can not control. Most of you know I'm a Carer for my chronically ill mother. I know there are others who are the same. I lost my father to three, yes, THREE TERMINAL lung diseases, which when I think about it resemble the original Kepral's very disturbingly. These ****ers obviously don't have experience, and don't ****ing care, and now I'm so ****ing pissed off again that I'm not going to be able to sleep even if I wasn't trying to hack up my own lungs and.....

Coldi? Grog. Now.

Thane looks....odd.

His markings are off, and that first pic...his suit doesn't even look like that....
But, I gotta say that's a rather accentuating shadow on Thane that first pic...

But seriously...Garrus, Jack, Joker look...off too.

I'll be updating mum's PT once we've finished for today. Overlord is next.

Of course BioWare don't give a sh** about their fans at least that's what it feels like,I think they did that EC to save their a** but they got more a** saving to do that's what they don't get. And we are not gonna shut up about how Thane/Jacob (fans) got treated in ME3 until they clean up the mess they made.

HEY BIOWARE A LITTLE ADVICE HERE: Your supposed to satisfy customers not ****** them off!!!!

The ME3 character forum has been closed for a month now? I've got this feeling they aren't gonna open it up anytime soon and if they aren't then they need to put out a post that says so instead of having us guessing!

@Emerald Finally you give us an update! Hehe I'm just picking on you I know you've been busy,Thanks for telling us! ^^

Part of why I prefer the DA forums--being able to actually talk to the devs outside a scripted, televised setting is great for relations between the company and its customers, and it gives us a glimpse of their perspective.  I can't blame them for not wanting to turn up on the forums--even the friendliest thread can turn nasty on a dime--but I appreciate that the DA team at least tries.

TBH that's a lot of the problem, not hearing anything from the ME devs on WHY.  The DA devs, for example, explained the retcons of character deaths (esp. Anders and Leliana) that pissed off a lot of people.  IMO retcon is still a little sloppy for storytelling, but now I understand the thought process behind it, and it's not anything malicious or bad.  For the ME devs, I'm mostly left to wildly speculate on WHY the hell they did things the way they did for parts of ME3, and while I like to be charitable, there are some things like the treatment of Jacob where I really can't come up with a decent reason.

@Emerald Thane does look a bit odd... and Jack and Joker too... but otherwise I think it's pretty nice. Seems very similar to the comic in ME2.

Hmmm... I wonder how Thane will be introduced in that new comic... I'd expect that they don't want to draw too much attention to him since he's going to die.

Shepard: "Next, we met Thane Krios, a retired assassin who was dying in Kepral's Syndrome. There was no hope. We took him onboard out of pity."

Shepard: "I noticed several members of my squad showing signs of interest in me..."

[choose Garrus]
[choose Jacob]
[choose Thane]

Shepard: "I knew he was going to die so it was nothing serious. We had sex before the suicide mission and never talked again."

...well, that's the impression you get from their "romance" in ME3 anyway. >.<

So true. If they had just had Jacob break up with Shep saying "I don't think it could work out" and left it at that, I could understand it a little. Not like it, but understand.

But having him cheat AND give him baby mama drama was intentional, and there was no reason for it.

I don't get what they were trying to do there. If it was a take that to fans for not liking Jacob it wouldn't impact people (only those who played femShep. If anything, fixing Jacob would have been a better take that because people would be tripping over themselves to go back and play ME2.

This is not about Thane but on the slight topic of female gamers and female aliens.

SPOILERS for the OMEGA dlc (In case)

Here are two pictures of the female turian we'll see in Omega. I'm still baffled over the fact she isn't hooded. Like every other female version of the aliens... :P Now if she looks good, that's another matter. But she looks ALIEN thank god, not some kind of human ish, hot female. Even if the area around her eyes creep me out a bit.

I'm glad they don't have her hooded too cause it seems just about every female alien you cross paths with in the game is hooded! :P

About a Thane mod to fix his death, that's exciting!!! Since I doubt Bioware cares about us anymore, getting rid of his stupid death through at least a mod would be way better than what it currently is like. But I agree with you guys, I AIN'T GOING AWAY AND BIOWARE STILL BETTER FIX THIS!
