Guess who's back? Oh and I dropped stuff in the ME2 Samara thread. ANYWAY "Just when I thought I was out they pulled me back in" not sorry for that been watching the Sopranos and I'm assuming that quote was from a Godfather movie or something. Anyway I've heard that I've been missed here so I'm back.
Pst -- we added that lovely Samara pic of yours to the art gallery on the blog

As for Ashley being Bi, I wouldn't have minded it personally. I just like the idea of a balance though. Straight, Bi, and Gay being options and balanced options at that. The bottom line for me; don't negate my choice of LI (a legitimate LI you gave us as an option in ME2), in a role playing game. That's it.
@gearseffect - BUDDY!! Wassup??? Hey, I would still love to get your Samara+Jake screenshots for the blog, if your willing.

You can make Thane by using his textures from ME2 and switching to SkyrimRoxy wrote...

I don't have Skyrim so I can't make Thane, but since you need to have the texture line up right it will take a lot of trial and error to get a good Thane. Or if anyone knows how to model Thane you can do that.
For this method you will need Texmod and a good computer. Mine lags when using it and my laptop cost $700 >.>

Liara's gotten enough attention at this point, especially since she's been in all three games and has a DLC.

But with all seriousness, I don't understand why BioWare doesn't make a ME2 squady DLC. I mean it would bring them a good deal of money, satisfy a large portion of the fanbase, and best of all it'd be easy since there are already so many plots/missions/dialogue for each character to where they don't have to think about how to put them in the game. The works already done for them.

*Looks at the CS blog*
What the?
That's just...sad.
Sad that someone felt they needed to skewer the results in the first place, and even more sad that said person felt the need to skewer the results for Thane & Jacob like they were a "threat" I just...*sigh*.
It's a good thing you caught that.
re: Blue babies
Seriously...what?
Have they ever heard of head-canon? Of fanfiction and fanart?
"But we need blue babies ingame! More Liara!!"
*Slowly backs away*
Well, if the blue babies meant that the other LIs become equal to Liara then ok, I'd be cool with that.
Otherwise...no.
@Dineboo
Yeah, Liara is not in need of new content. I agreed that the bugs in her romance should be fixed, and they were in Leviathan. So time for some "TLC-DLC" the other characters. This would be my own list of fix priority:
1: Thane & Jacob : There is no excuse. The ME3 content is abysmal for both of them. Thane should be allowed to live through ME3, and Jacob shouldn't cheat. Period.
2: Jack: Her lack of screentime and romance content was sub-par. And seriously...Jack's romance content in ME3 needs more emotional fluff.
3: Miranda: She had the most screentime out of the ME2 romances, but even then it was less than team dextro.
4: Samara: "The big elephant in the room" Uh..yes. Maybe you should properly adress that then? Because saying something like that and then go "HerpDerp forgot" is just...no.
5: Ashley: Those cutscenes that were cut? Add them back in the game. And let Ashley not be a mute on the Normandy. Let Ashley be Ashley.
6: Tali : Give her a properly in-game rendered face. No seriously, it should be done. The argument "We wanted Tali to have a face on the same level as Miranda and Liara" does not mean bad Photoshop.
7: Garrus: A proper Romance scene. If all humanoid LI's get one (Kaidan/Liara/Ashley/Cortez/Samantha), so should Garrus (and the abovementioned characters). End of.
8: Samantha: Rework that facepalm worthy shower-scene. Fixing the angles should be enough. And give her atleast some more lines (Steve got more lines in Leviathan but Samantha got none)
If I may ramble further, this is how I would have set up the total tally of the LI's (making Male-Shep and Fem-Shep as equal as possible):
Female LI options for Male-Shep:
Liara
Ashley
Miranda
Jack
Tali
Kelly
Samara*
Male LI options for Male-Shep:
Kaidan
Steve
Javik**
(Insert male character)****
Male LI options for Fem-Shep:
Kaidan
Thane
Jacob
Garrus
James***
Javik**
(Insert male character)****
Female LI options for Fem-Shep:
Liara
Kelly
Samantha
Samara*
*/ I'm adding Samara because of the teasing they did back in ME2, and again in pre-release press "We will resolve the big elephant in the room.". And then when ME3 comes around, the opposite is done in ME3. That was not ok in my book.
**/ Yep. Javik. Some personal bias of mine with that choice I'll admit, but Male-Shep has no same-sex alien LI like Fem-Shep does. I know Asari look more like humans than the other aliens, but still, Asari ≠ Human.
***/ James. The flirting with Fem-Shep is almost the same situation as Samara in ME2, with the exception of pre-release teasing and gender availability.
****/ Preferrably a male alien. Perhaps Mordin or Reegar? Fem-Shep has two alien LI's (counting Samara) that are same-sex. So should Male-Shep. It would also mean Male-Shep and Femshep each get 4 opposite-sex LI's that are alien.
Well, that's about as equal as I can get methinks.
re: Thane Skyrim mod
*Disclaimer: I have not played Skyrim nor do I own it, so the following is just speculation on my part*
@Jessica
You'd need the Specular and Normal maps as well (otherwise the model will look "flat").
I suppose if one wanted to go overboard, one could make Thane's body model into some kind of seperate in-game equipment (hence keeping the ME appearance intact).
Tex-mod is not necessary for extracting textures from ME2 & ME3. Using gildor's umodel program is sufficent (it also extracts the models) and it doesn't use up RAM like Tex-mod.
As for Thane looking "odd" in the mod:
I think it's the bone* assignments ("Bones" are the movable "parts" of the animation rig) that make Thane's head look like that in Skyrim. Mass Effect has it's own "skeleton" of these "bones" that make up the animation rig, and naturally, Skyrim has it's own rig too.
Hence, the model for Thane's head follows the bone assignments of the Skyrim skeleton leading to stretched/compressed polygons. I.e a slightly oddly shaped head.
Idk wether it's possible to export a Mass Effect skeleton for import into Skyrim though.
As for the lightning being different:
Hmm...hard to say, the highlights on Thane's head looks slightly more matte than in Mass Effect.
Could be the Skyrim engine handles shaders differently, or it could be that the Specular map isn't setup properly.
A Specular map is usually an image file with 3 or 4-maps-in-one. Each map is within each RGBA-channel.
In order to use them, one needs to seperate the channels (either within the renderer itself or by editing the image in Photoshop).
Through my own 3dsMax experiments and mishaps (and there's been plenty of those lol) this is the usual setup of ME2's Specular maps:
Red:Unknown*.
Green: Specular Level
Blue: Glossiness (can be called Specular Power in other programs)
Alpha: Self-Illumination**
* It could be a Specular colour map, but it only looks right when used in certain circumstances. I only use it on Armour, Weapons and clothing.
** This map is used if there is a "light" emitted from the model (think of the lights on Shepard's Armour, Thane's AA appearance etc). Hence, not all Specular maps has an Alpha channel.
To make things even more confusing, the channel/map content can differ depending on what model it is, and wether the model is from ME2 or ME3. It's always fun when that happens! More guesswork and mishaps! /jk
And uh...oops...that was some technical mumbo-jumbo rambling. Sorry.
But if anyone is curious as to how the maps for Thane's model is setup in 3dsMax (and I guess other 3d programs as well)
I could show it. (With pictures and text so...not as boring as the above tl;dr text)
P.S Does anybody know how to change the colour of the text on this forum? I still haven't figured that out yet.
Oh before I go, hi Gears! Welcome back! *Waves like an idiot*
And it's "Back to work" for me as Mess Sergeant Gardner would have put it.

Type [ color="Color You Want]*Text goes here*[ /color]
Type all of this without the spaces in the brackets.
I also think you can give an RGB value instead of a color name, but I'm unsure about that.

@Vlk
Voted.
Thane has been my no. 1 favorite since my first PT of ME2.
But..gah! If only I could've picked top three. It feels like I've left out Javik and Garrus
And agreed on Thane=Alive.
Then again, I've pretty much tossed ME3's plot in the bin.
Needless to say the entire "Derp at Huerta" is non-existant in my headcanon. As is the "Herp Citadel Coup Derp".
Hm. I may have something image wise for you fellow drellickers. Just give me a few moments in Photoshop to finish it...

And the LI choices for femShep does need to be equalized. If anything needs to be fixed, it's that. And that should be prioritized way before little blue children.

Then TIM (I think I could be wrong here) paid for her to go to college and get her degree, also seems like there was more talk of her family and where she grew up.
I remember being very impressed by it all and then being let down because all of it was cut.. There was no more deep character development in the finale version of ME3 for Kelly it was all cut.
Otherwise I agree.. though at this point I do NOT trust BW's competency with handling a complex character like Samara when it comes to addressing, continuation, and resolving the pink elephant in the room not to mention making her a full LI/Romance option.
I was very appalled when I saw Queen Omega kiss Shepard, it was popping up on my tumblr dash like an outbreak of crabs and the whole thought of Aria kissing Shepard for any reason to me is OOC for Aria... that kiss thing is very bothersome like a case of crabs probably is (I say probably because I've never suffered from crabs or lice). So to me it was all very immature and completely incompetent, a gross out of character butchering of Aria, which to me is the equivalent of a happy endings massage.
Wanking for non thoughtful fans and the dip****s in the office with their blue blow up Liara's under their desks.

And wow, there was that much cut content for Kelly? I guess she wasn't popular enough that they would keep all that dialogue... But still, I don't like BW's logic in these kinds of cases. Perhaps Kelly would have become more popular if they improved her role in ME3 and gave her more screentime, instead of reducing it. Same with Jacob: making him cheat on femShep doesn't really make him more likeable. It's like they just gave up with him when finding out he wasn't as popular as they had hoped in ME2. I think Jacob should have surprised us (both non-romancers and romancers) in some positive way -- perhaps by saving Shepard's ass or, I don't know, becoming more of a badass? I'm pretty sure I would try his romance if that had happened, however dull he was back in ME2.

And...this took me longer than expected...but here it is at last; the sibling piece to the "Haters gonna hate" render:
So for the lulz, here's "Deal with it" Thane (rendered in 3DsMax + some Photoshop editing):

@Gears
I knew I'd miss an LI in my list....*Facepalms*
Kelly's backgound story was actually cool, it stinks that it was cut.
Hmm...going by that list I wrote earlier, I'd probably put Kelly in-between Samara and Ashley at number 5.
